HOA is lower than other places I looked at. The neighborhood is generally very quiet. Your biggest nemesis or annoyance will be aggressive birds during mating season. I'll take that. Silly birds. The HOA is very responsive and eager to please residents. Pools are clean, playgrounds are clean, it's a glorious place. I love living here. It's peaceful, affordable, and a great place.

Handy-man task were half done....the caulk around my tub was done horribly and had to be redone and a piece had to be "fixed" on my brand new ceiling fan that they installed. BUT those weren't the worst things done by this company. The paint job looked like my two-year old completed the task. They got paint on my floor (had to get professionally cleaned), paint on my sofa, paint on one of my winter coats and paint on parts of the wall that didn't need painting and paint on my doors! This company was asked to paint my trim and then two bathrooms. There was paint splattered all over the ceiling, on my bathtub, on my mirrors, on my floor and on my medicine cabinet (I have plenty of pictures to prove it!). I had to refuse to pay in order for SOME of the mistakes to get fixed. I was hoping to have them do additional work, but strongly decided against it since this was such a nightmare! And the workers were not professional...talking on their cell phone while painting, trying to watch television while painting and excessive smoke breaks (like every 15 mins) If you are looking for a company to complete basic fixes or any type of paint, then please do yourself a favor and hire another company. I even was forced to pay FULL PRICE on such a low-craftsmanship type of job....which puts me in a hole for my home remodeling budget since I have to hire additional workers to fix all the items they messed up. i hired this company to install a sink and a toilet, as well as some odd jobs, in my apartment…read more they installed the toilet ok, but only halfway installed the sink, neglecting to tell me so. so i had a leak the first day which resulted in damage to my brand new sink and vanity. they came back to finish the job, and they did, but i have no idea why they didn't tell me that it would leak in the first place. then they did some other odd jobs around the house, including drilling holes in the wall to hang pictures. the young man troy drilled four holes in my wall to hang one picture, and when i voiced my objection, he told me not to "worry, because the picture will hide it anyway," and in any case, it was only four. i had some cabinet pulls i wanted installed, but after and hour and a half of muttering, drills clattering to the floor, dropping things, and taking cell phone calls, troy had only installed two. so i told him to just forget it. bruce did successfully anchor my bookcase to my walls. i received a bill for over four hundred dollars for two hours of work. i would not let these bumbling fools into my house. check around and read reviews. these guys were a disaster, causing damage to my property and making an absolute mess. and the guy in "customer service," dick, needs a attend a seminar. it was altogether and unpleasant experience.

It was very clearly Barkan's error. When it was pointed out to them as soon as it showed up as a pending charge, there was no effort to cancel the erroneous charge. However they did charge a $30 fee. Which they made it very difficult to have removed from the account. It took months. Once that was settled Barkan raised the fees for the new year. Although had to ask them what it the new fee was. After a few months received a notice that there was an error (again Barkan's)in calculating the increase. So they would be raising the August payment to what the rate should've been in the first place, & including the what should've been charged for the previous months. In less than a year Barkan has made two very obvious errors, & expect their customers to pay for their mistakes! Very Greedy Nickel, & Dimers.

I gather that the Board's decision to change management companies clearly derived from resident dissatisfaction of services rendered. My opinion of Sentry over the last 5 or 6 years still stands. I do not appreciate highlighting my possible place of residence on an open forum. That being said, I feel that a 70 year old building in a historic district of a very desired zip code warrants a more strategic outlook rather a band-aid patch here and there. There is a certain level of expertise that is needed to manage communities here as the City's Architectural Review Board is very stringent on their expectations of following rules. It's not just a condo complex; it's a very visible gateway to a very unique, preserved, historic and touristic area. I used to see residents doing walk abouts to keep abreast of the property; the non-Sentry grounds keeper noted more issues than any assigned property manager (and there have been numerous.) I almost wonder what Sentry was managing --- as it has the word "Management" in its very name. I don't know if you've ever walked the grounds -- and certainly you can't compare it to what it used to be because you don't know what to compare it to. But I have lived there since the conversion. You should walk the grounds and while you do, stop and look at the discolored concrete slabs that "replaced" perfectly good ones with ones with an odd hue, while clearly cracked and broken ones remained untouched. Stop and look at the seams filled in with goop so sloppily that they pour down the sides. Right before the white washed red brick behind the cheaply painted black railing over the rust without appropriately sanding it down. Want to take a look at the water damaged roof that is historic slate? Sentry's contractors sure didn't. It took years before someone actually walked a roof, but residents were told each time a complaint was made that "the issue was resolved and a repair was made." You probably can't do all that because his company was sold out of state. Hard to do a walk through from Florida. PS. I sat through a few board meetings and I can name ONE representative who I would deem professional, did not get snarky with residents or board members, responded to emails in a timely fashion and was able to differentiate between what would and would not constitute an emergency. Additionally, please note that dissatisfaction with Sentry seems to be documented on Yelp as far back as 2011. Maybe instead of pointing fingers at past or current Board members who volunteer their time, uncompensated, to take care of our community, Sentry may want to take a closer look at its operations, one for which they are well compensated.
