First time eating at the Macleod Branch. The servers are very attentive and serve food with a smile. I like the unagi sushi, mango roll and the squid. I enjoyed drinking their green tea. Everything is fresh and prepared with care. Waiting time is good too. The place has a good ambiance and very clean. I recommend it to anybody who enjoys Sushi. read more

This used to be my absolute favourite sushi place. The atmosphere in here used to be amazing. So much so that you would have to wait to get in. Now it's just depressing... the energy when you walk in the door is where it starts. Used to walk in And the whole place would erupt with some form of Japanese greeting... no longer... the place is now overcrowded with shelves full of Japanese candies and toys giving it the feel of dragon city mall.... So then we sit at the floating bar only to be disappointed that there was very little sushi on it because it was full of toys and candy... everything we ate we had to order and could not pick and choose the sushi from around the board as there was none. You would think I was there during an off peak time but I assure you the bar was full of people at the time and it was during the linch time of a Saturday afternoon. All of the rolls we did order tasted of older fish... not off and it didn't make us sick just didn't taste fresh... the rolls were all very dry and just didn't seem to have the love this place used to have. Food quality again wasn't terrible just not amazing... the quality you might expect from the mall. So disappointing as I was bringing my kids here to experience the place and had talked it up.probably won't be back read more

Based on some good reviews, we ordered take-out this evening from Kinjo in Mahogany, our first visit - we live 5 minutes away. We have enjoyed various levels of quality of sushi over 30 years - this was without doubt the worst of hundreds we have had. Very, very disappointed. The rice they used did not hold together, fell apart on each sushi or roll dish. Seemed a bit stale as well. The squid arms were underdone and the 'batter' on them was mushy and soggy; the tempura prawns were underdone and had bits of shell in them; the octopus (take) was underdone; the rolls mentioned above were smaller in diameter than other sushi restaurants, probably 2/3 size, and all had the same rice problem. The only thing somewhat enjoyable was sample 3 fried chicken wings! However, the food was available on time and the staff were friendly. Will we return? Absolutely not. This is my favourite sushi restaurant EVER. I am glad that I got to support it once more before the hiatus this month. They usually have a sushi boat going, although understandably, this time it was off. They have the best vibe and the best sushi in all of Calgary! I was so proud that they added a second location. This is the OG location though, and it is the best. The Volcano Roll and Mango Rolls from here are my favourites! They are must tries! Green Tea on the side! Tempura! I love it all. The food is excellent and the service is fast! Every time I come to Calgary, this is a must eat location for me. I really wish we had this restaurant in Edmonton! If you like calamari, the giant fried squid legs are pretty good. It comes with a dip. So yummy! The Wagyu beef sushi is $5 a piece but I think it's so worth it! I savour the moments as the scrumptious beef literally melts in my mouth. It's amazing! The Blue Fin Toro is also to die for! I was in heaven with the Wagyu beef and the Toro! I couldn't decide which one I liked better! At the end of the meal, they give you either Pocky or Pejoy biscuit sticks. I don't know any other Japanese restaurant that does this. It's a nice little touch. My last visit here was a total of 45 minutes (from ordering to digesting) and this last visit was roughly only 30 minutes! I'm serious when I say their service is quick! They're super efficient with their service! Overall, I love this place! If you love Japanese food, and are in the Calgary area, this place is definitely worth trying out! read more

Wow this place is really good! It's busy which is always a good sign. The kitchen is in the middle of the restaurant in plain sight. It has a river for boats to carry rolls, sushi, and cones directly to you. The portion sizes are good. And finally, the food tastes good, comes to your table quickly, and is affordably priced! My guest and I had 5-6 dishes and it came to around $50. There was a server walking around constantly giving all the lady guests a choice of chocolates for free. When I asked for one they said I'd have to pay. :( read more

A very fun place to go for sushi. The staff are polite and helpful and fun. There was a birthday party when we were there and they made it fun for everyone. The restaurant is full of energy, good food and noise. Not the best place for conversations so if you're looking for a quite place, this isn't for you. Jo was very funny and polite and he was like a cheerleader. Overall I had a very good experience and I will go back there for sure. read more

This place was very friendly and had a great vibe to it! The sushi was decently priced but definitely not the best sushi I've eaten. I settled with salmon sashimi, spicy tuna and machini (I think). The salmon sashimi was definitely a miss as I feel it was flavorless (maybe I didn't pick the right one). The other two sushi options I got were great! I loved the sweet potato and sweet pepper combo in the machini! I love how interactive the place was with floating boats of sushi making its rounds in the middle. Our service was a little slow and inattentive, but I imagine it's because this place is slammed constantly! read more

Just looks like a wanna be sushi shop. Waiters are all Asian, not Japanese. Sushi rolls with mayonnaise are the focus. Tried tuna and red snapper traditional sushi. It's Calgary so was frozen fish and taste was poor. Chicken karaage was underwhelming. Gyoza was quite good as was the chicken fried rice. Miso cod was fair as was the tofu and ginger. If you like rolls of veg, rice and mayonnaise it may be your idea of a sushi shop, not mine. read more

The last 2 times I've ordered food from here it's been not good. Just lack of quality and presentation especially. Pic is of 4 piece what's supposed to be a rainbow roll. The avocado was smashed and brown under the fish. If you've had a real rainbow roll you know what they're supposed to look like and this is not it. Last Saturday, my boyfriend took me to CF Chinook Centre Mall to go shopping. Before that, we had sushi at Kinjo Sushi & Grill restaurant for the lunch.The restaurant is located 5 mins away from the CF Chinook Centre Mall. It was our first time having Sushi in the city of Calgary and also 1st time came to this restaurant. It's a middle size of the restaurant. We arrived the restaurant right after it opened. The restaurant is very clean and tidy. Servers and Cooks were very nice and friendly. The restaurant is divided by two different parts, Dining Table and Sushi Boat Bar. People can either order the dishes or take sushi from the sushi bar. We decided to sit at the sushi bar. The cooks made different sushi rolls in front of us and then put them on the Boat. The Sushi Boats run circles in front of the us. We could pick the different sushi rolls from different Boats. The sushi rolls came fast. They were fresh, tasty, and delicious. We paid by different colors of plate. The red plate is $3.60 each. The yellow is $4.10 each. The green one is $5.50. The food here was all in the small portions, but there were so many selections. It's great. We love this place so much. Highly recommend people to try KINJO Sushi & Grill. I am sure that we will come back here again in so soon. I use to come here alot when it was the only location. I lived super close to it. Back then Peter was the main guy that walked around greeting customers and making sure they had a good time and ensuring quality in the food. Then he expanded and left the restaurant for others to manage. It went downhill. I stopped going when a server reached out to grab something not caring I was sitting eating my food and her hair landed on my food as she was reaching out. 8 years later and the pandemic happened. Kinjo started offering 20% off their sushi. I moved to Toronto and back and really wanted Sushi and thought I would give it another try. The quality has improved for a take out stand point. I have yet to dine in since that incident. The only thing to note. DO NOT pre-order your food. I pre-ordered an hour a head of time and my food was cold. They made it right away and the food just sat there for an hour. read more

I am shocked that I haven't reviewed Kinjo yet. This place is my go-to sushi venue in Calgary. It's unbelievably unpretentious, but also very high quality. No, you will not find some of the over-the-top extravagant creations found at, say, Bar Zipang. But what you will find is a venue that is full of fun, loud people having a great time. It's very reasonably priced, to boot. As long as you don't mind some elbow-to-elbow sushi-eating frenzy, you'll have a great time here. I have been told by the staff that part of their quality strategy involves charging less for sushi. It sounds counter-intuitive, but he says that it allows them to turn more sushi over faster. As a result, they save costs on expensive additional refrigeration and can serve their customers fresher sushi, sooner. This is one thing I can say with certainty about Kinjo--that their sushi is always fresh. No matter what time of day you go or what day of the week, you won't have a gamey tuna sashimi. Every sushi place I have been to elsewhere has been guilty of this at some point. I've been to Kinjo probably around 50-60 times now and can only say good things about it. The place is always packed, but as long as you come in a small group, you'll get in quickly and the food will come at you fast! I miss having Peter at the south location, threatening the men with his sushi knife if they don't adequately serenade their date, but the other guys have done a great job of picking up the slack. Must have items: Volcano rolls, Spicy Salmon Crunch, giant squid legs (squid kara-age basically), and assorted sashimi. They also make a wicked sesame steak sauce. Stay off the boat if you can--the menu items are really interesting and worth spending your money on. Use the boat as filler or to grab the odd volcano roll. read more

Andre, you totally made this a five-star night. Andre is the name of the staff member who came along halfway through our meal with some packages of Pocky and got my best friend to tell me what a wonderful friend I am! A few minutes before, he lead the staff in song to a couple who was in the restaurant for their anniversary. It's like Red Robin's meet a sushi bar. I was impressed we got in so quickly for a Saturday night. I think the sushi bar that wrapped itself all the way around Kinjo may have helped in the expediency at which people ate their food. It's not really set up for long talks after you've eaten your meal, not that I felt rushed or pressured to leave at any point. Note-there are tables available as well if there are more than two of you. But definitely give the bar a try if you're willing. The sushi itself was on par with being good quality yet inexpensive. The menu boasts a selection of what Kinjo refers to as "red, yellow or green plate" options. The servers are friendly, the food is fresh and served in a decent amount of time. We ordered the spider roll, a spicy tuna roll, avocado roll, rainbow roll and salmon sashimi. The spider roll was most definitely the largest and most colourful, and one my best friend was the most willing to eat (she's not so much a fan of the raw fish concept). The real draw for Kinjo is definitely the atmosphere. It was so happy and fun! And I carried the Pocky around in my purse to nibble on for a couple of days afterwards. I love the Kinjo franchise. Their service is an authentic Japanese kind, welcoming and friendly. This location is, however, my favourite because the sushi bar is a whole different kind of experience. Instead of waiting for your food you can grab whatever is in front of you if you're so hungry and can't wait. The food is one of the freshest tasting I have tried in Calgary so far. Being from BC, it's hard to find sushi and seafood that's up to par with its freshness in AB. Kinjo does an amazing job getting good quality stuff, keeping it fresh and making delicious dishes. Some of my favourite things to order are the seared salmon/tuna nigiri, the volcano roll, the scallop nigiri, the assorted tataki appetizer, and the green tea ice cream just to name a few. I must emphasize the service here because it really is fantastic. I'm all about the people, and if it's one thing that makes me come back to a restaurant it's the good service and Kinjo definitely represents that. read more

Just ordered takeout and it is still as good as when I used to frequent it. Ordered assorted sashimi, 6 varieties of sushi, seaweed salad, miso soup, deluxe shrimp salads, agedashi tofu. Needless to say, we all enjoyed it spread 7-8 feet apart outside of Rockyview Hospital. In the past I enjoyed picking off the sushi plates off the boats that circulated around the restaurant. So much fun especially with friends. Kinjo used to be around talking it up with customers handing out Pockys to kids and patrons. I nolonger see him since his brand expanded.You will never be disappointed eating here. I have eaten at his Westhills and Millrise locations. This was not the first time I have been to this place, however my latest visit really solidified my delight with this place. The restaurant is small but surprisingly comfortable. Sushi of different price points float by on a chain of boats, a nice novelty and a nice variation on the old conveyor belt system that were once popular. The sushi that arrived on the boats for my selection were of the basic variety and of the most popular with customers. While the boats are temping in their novelty the best surprises are on the regular menu. The sushi tacos were very good and a nice fusion. The tempura was also very good. The service was good but if you are looking for a quiet experience turn around. The whole crew will sing to you at the slightest indication of an event. Glad we came here to top of our last night in Calgary! Kinjo was local for us, and us Torontonians had a craving for some sushi! When we arrived we had a choice of either sitting in a booth or sitting by the sushi bar which had had plates of various sushi dishes floating on a conveyor boats!!! yes... so essentially while you eat, these dishes float by and you can decide whether or not to take it. The dishes are categorized by colors which determine the prices; Red- $3.45/ Yellow- $3.95/ Blue $4.25 with each order having 4 rolls. By the end of it all we ordered their Volcano which had a kick of spice to it, california roll, spicy salmon, yam sushi, etc. Overall the presentation was someWHAT satisfactory, the service was exceptionally great, and the servers are personaable and knowledgable with their sushis!! The place is clean, and Kinjo seems to be a popular place in the neigborhood. What I did not like about this place was the amount of rice they used, it was not equally proportioned, as well, some of our rolls fell apart easily. WOuld I come back here, maybe, maybe not as there are other sushi places around this area. read more

My husband and I ate here because they had the $1.50 plate. When we got there is was so pack. We understood why. The host told us it's going to be about a 20-30 mins waited. We sat down for 5 mins and we got a seated right after. So we were happy. When we sat our server gave us 4 sushi piece as sample. I don't remember the name; but they were delicious! We were there for sushi only. But when we seen the menu. We order so much much off the menu that we ended up only getting one plate of sushi. We ordered fried ika (fried squid) chicken katsu, ginger beef, fried noodle, and Alberta roll. My favorite there was the fried ika. I wouldn't recommend the fried noodle. The fried noodle was bland. And the ginger beef had a weird texture to it. My husband likes the food. We finished everything but the fried noodle. The server were great. It was really busy. But she didn't forget about us. I would come back again maybe after the anniversary promo is over. P.s I didn't use the bathroom. But my husband said the bathroom is horrible. You have people literally waiting by the door. Just did pickup after a long day being out on the road, and wanted something quick and easy, so after yelping it, I just didn't read enough...thought it would be authentic or izakaya (ok, that's pushing it lol). It's a huge restaurant but small portions, then again, pretty cheap, gets 4 star for value. Though the cali roll was just 4 pcs, it was good enough, and the deep fried tempura/avocado wasn't too shabby too, Extra star for offering a mini-box version of Pocky lol. Friendly service. Go elsewhere ! the General Manager on Sunday morning at 11 am is a loser! it was my kids birthday and they would not honour anything free on the list they offer for birthdays. They did not care and would do nothing special. They whisper in their language and treat people like crap. Talk behind your back while waiting for food. We use to go here all the time and will never go back now! It has gone to the dumps. Maybe new ownership or disgruntled employees having to work on Sunday. What a bunch of disgusting losers ! This is the first of all the Kinjo restaurants in the city of Calgary, Alberta.. I believe. It was also the first sushi restaurant I went to and because of that it will always be my favourite. One thing to say about this restaurant... VOLCANO ROLL!! I love the food, atmosphere and people here, however, this specific location loses one star because of how small the restaurant is. being beside Chinook and os central makes it extremely popular and the restaurant inside is small and the parking is small as well. You need to have patience. Especially going there when you are hungry and with 3 or more people you will need to wait for a table but if you are hungry enough you will settle for sitting at the sushi bar which is fine but unfortunate because your group of friends can't face each other as you are sitting side by side but if you go with two people or by yourself its fine. Sushi is becoming a big trend and no matter how many other sushi restaurants I go to or try I will always come back to this one because this is the one that started everything for me. read more

I'm from Toronto and I had to give it a try of their sashimi. The salmon was ok, the tuna is cut in a square shape and not fresh, toro were poor. The blue fin toro was a joke.
