Wow, where to start the sushi is great. The sashimi is great. The equator is great. Everything we had and there is too much to list was absolutely awesome. One of my favorites was the cucumber appetizer. Also, the steak served on a super hot stone you finish cooking it at the table. My dad who only eat fish enjoyed the hokke japanese mackerel. He said it was really delicious. I got the sashimi salad, so refreshing. The wild salmon sashimi was also satisfying. The gyu ramen was a bit salty. Their home made gelato is highly recommended. We tried the blueberry flavor and it was so good. It was not even sour like the typical gelato. The chicolate mochi was also yummy not too sweet. I deduct one star since the service was slow. They have the deep fried special 20% off on Tuesday. The wasabi is also the real deal too. So first off the Truffle shrimp/tempura shrimp was flavorful. The tempura sauce was unique. It was thicker than the tempura sauce I get at other restaurants. But their tempura sauce had way more flavor. The batter was nice and light. It was freshly made upon ordering. The salmon nigiri had a nice thick piece of salmon on top of the rice bed. The rice was made with the perfect combination of vinegar and rice. The miso black cod was my favorite. The cod was moist and grilled to perfection. I watched them grill my fish in front of me. The tuna oshi was not bad. I liked it but it. Overall my dinner was super delicious. Best Japanese restaurant in Calgary or one of the best Japanese restaurants in Calgary.. Really great place to have big groups, they also have upstairs with a bar if you needed private party. We had 15 people and it only took up a table upstairs so could fit 35 people comfortably. The atmosphere is great and the food is amazing! Personally, my favourite place for skewers. I love how they have a variety of bbq skewers and sushi. Their sashimi is cut into fat generous chunks and taste so fresh! None of that slim cut cheap almost see through pieces. I'm in love with their lamb chops here! So flavourful, juicy, cooked to perfection and I like to dip it into their signature skewer sauce but the one that comes with it is good as well. Their pork ribs were ok but not fall off the bone juicy. I wouldn't order this next time I come but still was decent. I also come here for their gizzards! If you like to be adventurous definitely try these they have a addicting texture I could eat 10 skewers of these. This is also the few places I have found that have me favourite black sesame ice cream! I will definitely come back. The only bad thing I can say about this place is the lack of parking other than that all 15 friends of mine that came here loved this place. read more

Met a friend here in the summer and we tried a variety of items. We sat on the patio which was very chill and enjoyed our rolls, beef tongue, chicken skewers, sashimi and our drinks over a few hours. Oddly it got busy around 8-830pm when we're leaving on a Thursday night. Parking is on the street or in a paid lot. I think this is one of my favourite sushi place in Calgary. I really liked this place. There are so many yummy options that makes you want everything. Even the miso soup with lobster is amazing!! You should try that as an entree with mochi deep fried :) And if you are not into sushi or sashimi, there are some fried options as well like salmon teriyaki and beef too. Depends what you like and I think I saw some barbecue options as well. It was a bustling Saturday night -- the boys and I came here at 9 pm and the place was still hopping. We sat at the bar and watched the kitchen staff work with lightning speed efficiency. Our server was friendly and extremely helpful at explaining all the menu items. All yakitori are 20% off after 9pm. The yakitori was perfectly seasoned with a wonderful smokiness. The chicken tsukune(meatballs) were deliciously juicy and almost falling off the skewer. The lamb chops were cooked by our server on a hot stone grill at table side. We also ordered the quail eggs wrapped in bacon(which wasn't crispy enough, so we placed them on the stone grill since it was still quite hot), smoked duck with soba noodles, beef tongue, unagi, oishii sushi rolls and grilled saba(mackerel). Came down to Calgary for a trip and went to check on Ke Charcoal! I love the vibe the restaurant has. It's homie and welcoming with some cool and unique Japanese street decor. You can see the chefs cook your meals from your seat! I ordered the oshi sushi (both spicy salmon and tuna). This was okay. The fish was fresh however I felt like it lacked a bit of flavour. Nevertheless, still good! We also tried the mango roll and truffle prawn roll. The mango roll was delicious! It was fresh, with the perfect balance of sweet and salty. Yum! The truffle prawn roll is a must try. It's very unique and one may be thrown off by the unique flavour of the truffle. However, it's delicious in its own way! I've never tried anything like it before. We also ordered the yakitori as well. The angus yakitori was good. We liked the sauce on the side (possibly sesame sauce?). Great atmosphere. The tunes matched the experience perfectly. The lobster roll (forgot to take a pic) was very unique and turned out to be my favorite of the meal. Love the Yakitori here, a lot of options from chicken, pork, beef, seafood and vegetables. The sauce is also really nice, not too strong but give a great flavor to the Yakitori itself. Really nice restaurant that has a mixture of different Japanese Cuisine. They have things from Sushi, oysters, ramen, yakitori, etc. We did order a few things off their menu and it was great. Really enjoyed the Charcoal grill chicken. We ordered a few sticks and it was tasty. They also have daily specials so there are a few things that are cheaper depending on the day you order it. There is plenty of seating but with COVID make sure you make a reservation before coming in bc you might end up being disappointed. A very nice surprise! Great atmosphere (See pics) and very welcoming ! Started with the seaweed salad which was a delicious assortment of seaweed and greens with a tasty enhanced Japanese mayonnaise sauce. Followed up by two different size assorted sashimi platters. This was quite filling and the chef was more than willing to explain to me how to sharpen a one beveled Japanese knife. Restaurant was clean and lots of atmosphere. Nicely decorated. We enjoyed Ke Charcoal Grill & Sushi, but felt that it didn't do either the BBQ skewers or sushi as good as other restaurants that focus solely on those types of cuisine. But then and again, I'm comparing it to others like Sushi Zipang and Just BBQ which are hard to compete with. However, if you want both, it's still a good spot as the chicken skewers and sashimi were still yummy. Fresh and juicy, succulent to taste, and the melt-in-your-mouth white tuna had a surprisingly strong tuna taste to it (I've been to too many sushi restaurants where the white tuna melts in your mouth but doesn't take like anything). This restaurant is huge, and is excellent for big outings say if you have 10+ people. They will be able to fit you comfortably in their contemporary, open-concept interior. Ke also has a huge selection of other foods like deep fried teppan, stone grill meats and sushi rolls we didn't try. This was our first time here based on a recommendation and the four of us had a fantastic meal, just sorry it took me so long to write this review. This is a great restaurant with a modern take not only on the food but décor and atmosphere. There are black and white photos around the stairs that leads to the upper floor with a large dining area with extra seating. The menu is extensive and lots to try including the different varieties of sake. We got a bottle of the Ume sake and it was delicious. Food wise, well there's so much to choose from and you can't go wrong with fresh oysters from the East and West coast and you're off to a good start. They were fresh, served with an assortment of sauces including yuzu and you can't forget Tabasco sauce and a fresh squeeze of lemon. Next on the menu is an assortment of rolls: mango roll, lobster roll, seared tuna roll and rainbow roll. All delicious with different texture and flavour combinations and just the right balance of sushi rice, protein and ingredients. Did I mention it all was fresh? From the Yakitori menu we had the rib eye on the stone grill, followed by some lambchops, duck, lobster tails and because our eyes are bigger than our stomachs we also ordered the beef ribs. Needless to say by the time this baby came out we were stuffed so they wrapped it up for us to take home. It was delicious, so tender full of sauce and garlicky. All around amazing experience at KE, repeatedly! Excellent quality sushi and maki, HUGE selection, very fresh fish. They have a pickup discount directly through their website right now because of COVID no dining in - even without, quite affordable dishes. Their Ramen is some of the best I've had and SUCH a reasonable price! Plus they are so friendly for pickup and included some complimentary extras just to say 'thank you for supporting them'. They have recyclable takeout containers that are quite clever and serviceable (the ramen comes in a two-level lock'n'lock container keeping the noodles fresh and out of the broth for freshness, and it doesn't leak all over the bag! GENIOUS!). The dining room (when open) does have a great vibe and cool decor, great table service as well. I have been craving sushi so baldly all day that I dragged my friend with me late last night. The circumstances of going out for sushi were it had to be a place we both had not tried yet. I remembered this place always looking packed when I would visit other friends the live nearby. So today was the day. Snowy out I would be care full walking up to the door I almost went head first in to the door. Inside was nice and cozy, seemed like a bit of a muddle to get to our table a little bit crowded. I could see why it always seemed like a busy place good bubbly music fun wall art. This place was amazing! One of the best sushi places in Calgary hands down and still a hidden gem if you haven't been. Highly recommend ordering all the chefs selections - has red check mark next to menu items. They were all SO good. We ordered more sushi than we could usually eat and ate everything without feeling heavy. I also recommend the lobster miso soup (fresh lobster and shoe string mushrooms), seaweed salad and lobster salad is another must try - different take on it than other sushi restaurants and the dressing compliments everything. To top it off the service was impeccable the place was jammed on a Sunday and they made way for us right away with quality sushi coming fast. They are fully staffed with people who are efficient and genuinely care about what they do... or at least they make it seem like it. Lastly we were shocked when we got the bill we ordered a bottle of prosecco and everything came to around $100. We were expecting closer to $200.
