Basque cheesecake. Dude...seriously. Eat it. Like, now.

One of the best dining experiences I have had anywhere in the world. Ashley behind the bar delivered an amazing Omakase experience for me and 3 colleagues. Drinks and food paired so perfectly that we did not want the evening to end. Some off menu craft cocktails, 7 day aged fish, turnips that that transcend vegetables, tomatoes that make you feel special, fish that melts in your mouth (literally), and a dessert that puts the perfect punctuation on the evening, make you feel like there isn't enough stars for this place. Just...go. NOW!

The food is good but very expensive. Very small portions. The service was alright as the place was super busy. Tables are very close to each other so you can hear people's conversations.

Would not come back here for sure but would want to try the hidden restaurant behind this restaurant called eight. Me and my friends thought this place was so overpriced for mediocre food. We asked the waiter what he would recommend and what's his favourite dish and he told us the fish which didn't have a price next to it but MP (market price) it was $39!!! For bland white fish in some light ponzu. It was actually one of our least favourite dish. The miso cod at any other sushi restaurant had more flavour and for a third of the price. Kimchi pancake was gross. No crispyness whatsoever it was mushy pancake with barely kimchi flavour and the sauce did not go well with the pancake. A Korean seafood or vegetable pancake would have been better! Their unagi rice was a huge portion and must be shared amongst people because no one can could finish that on their own it's too much and no other flavours within to refresh palette. Cashew ramen I wouldn't have even called ramen. The noodles were clear glass noodles however the broth was decent and the toppings was good. This was one of the better dishes. Assorted sashimi had good fish but there was a tuna that definitely didn't taste fresh. My husband wanted salmon sashimi but disappointed to be told they don't have any salmon sashimi here.

One of the most unique and scrumptious dining experiences! From the crafted mar-tea-nis to perfect sushi. The parsnip roll and Dungeness crab egg roll were nothing but spectacular!! Definitely try one of the mar-tea-nis with tea infused vermouth. It will blow your mind! If you only have one sushi, go for the aged and torched sablefish. Terrific flavors! This is a must place to try while you're in Calgary. You will not be disappointed! Not to mention the service is impeccable!

Had an awesome dinner date at Nupo with a girl friend. The restaurant is located in East Village at the @althotel I believe this is the first omakase restaurant in Calgary! . The staff and service was amazing. They had a full house on a Thursday evening, highly recommend getting a reservation. I love that their cocktails were named after Studio Ghibli movies! Definitely recommend the tempura green chickpea curry fritters

I was SO impressed with this place. The location doesn't deserve this restaurant so go out of your way. Really awesome

Restaurant wasn't terribly busy - probably because it was Super Bowl Sunday!!! Seated promptly - there are only four seats for the omakaze experience. You have a view of all the preparation of the food - sat right in front of the charcoal grill which emanated heat through the glass. The starts of the experience - the Hokkaido scallop and the chicken ass (only available on the omakaze experience and cannot be ordered in the regular dining room now). Never felt rushed, unlimited sides. Only thing that could be improved is difficulty hearing the server and chef over the background music and restaurant noise. Also some of the background music didn't seem to suit the environment (pretty sure I heard some Dr Dre!!)

Shokunin had a fun vibe upon entering. The staff were friendly and knew the menu. I thought food was a bit underwhelming. Nigiri were decent - some tasted better than others. Yakitori took a long time to make and were salty. Kale salad was the most disappointing bc I was told that it's refreshing and a fan favorite. The dressing was creamy and heavy, and the kale were whole bunches and not chopped up for ease of eating. Cocktail was also very mid and I had no desire to order a second one.

The interior of the restaurant has seen better days and they will be undergoing a major renovation from September 21st to 2025. The owner, Jay, was pleasant and attentive. He brought us a plate of complimentary spring rolls with sweet chili sauce. They were piping hot and super crunchy! Our family ordered three personal hot pots to warm us up on a cool autumn afternoon: spicy miso soup with lamb; Tom Yum soup with seafood; kimchi soup with beef. Our soups arrived in a timely fashion on top of individual burners (this was my first time seeing pink gel used as fuel) and they were intensely flavourful. My lamb was tender and the fish cakes, crab sticks, tofu, enoki/brown mushrooms, suey choy, and konjac vermicelli were deliciously satisfying and comforting. As usual, the boys and I had a taste of all three soup bases, and we decided that we liked them all! Just one thing of note: the soup tends to thicken halfway through your meal, so you might need to add a bit of hot water. We will certainly be back!

The flavour was intense and satisfying. Service was prompt and efficient. Interior is about to undergo renovation and it could use a lift; it feels a little dated. Downstairs is where you can see the chefs prep the sushi and sashimi. Order at the till and then you will receive a buzzer (to pick up your food when it is ready). You can grab the sushi from the lower level (basement). My better half has some very specific dietary restrictions and they were able to answer my questions, staff was polite and did notify us if any foods might be cross contaminated. The atmosphere is casual but could also be a nice place for a date. They had the patio open today which is where we sat. We ordered the sushi lovers tray $20 for 20 pieces (4 sashimi and 16 pieces of sushi). My kids don't eat spicy food so the chef was able to make our sushi tray to order (with the spicy sauces on the side), which was lovely. The chef asked about our dietary restrictions when I asked for the spice to be served on the side. Also, we ordered the spicy chicken ramen (TIP: if you are sharing with a non-spicy eater, you can order it with the spice paste on the side, which is what we ended up doing). Kids love the broth here, and it is chicken based. Some ramen places will have chicken ramen but then it will be prepared in a pork based broth, which doesn't work for us. We ordered two of the salmon sushi lovers trays, one chicken ramen, one chicken yakatori and one bbq chicken rice bowl. There is a good amount of variety on the menu, whether you are looking for a meal or more of a snack item. They do have chicken, lamb, beef, tofu, and pork on the menu along with vegetarian options.
