This was my second time here in 6 months. Their food is reasonably priced, lots of seating area (main floor and downstairs). Downstairs is where you can see the chefs prep the sushi and sashimi. Order at the till and then you will receive a buzzer (to pick up your food when it is ready). You can grab the sushi from the lower level (basement). My better half has some very specific dietary restrictions and they were able to answer my questions, staff was polite and did notify us if any foods might be cross contaminated. The atmosphere is casual but could also be a nice place for a date. They had the patio open today which is where we sat. We ordered the sushi lovers tray $20 for 20 pieces (4 sashimi and 16 pieces of sushi). My kids don't eat spicy food so the chef was able to make our sushi tray to order (with the spicy sauces on the side), which was lovely. The chef asked about our dietary restrictions when I asked for the spice to be served on the side. Also, we ordered the spicy chicken ramen (TIP: if you are sharing with a non-spicy eater, you can order it with the spice paste on the side, which is what we ended up doing). Kids love the broth here, and it is chicken based. Some ramen places will have chicken ramen but then it will be prepared in a pork based broth, which doesn't work for us. We ordered two of the salmon sushi lovers trays, one chicken ramen, one chicken yakatori and one bbq chicken rice bowl. There is a good amount of variety on the menu, whether you are looking for a meal or more of a snack item. They do have chicken, lamb, beef, tofu, and pork on the menu along with vegetarian options. read more

Tokyo Street Market is a hidden gem. They are hidden because it seems like people in Calgary don't Yelp. Tokyo Street Market decor is like the street market in Japan. It's a nice Japanese decor. They've added 2 additional locations since I discovered them years ago. They have two things that I like in restaurants, good food and low prices. Their good service is another bonus. You order from the counter. They have seating indoors and outdoor for you to eat your meal. Their ramen is very good. Sushi rolls are okay. They also have yakitori, Japanese pastas, and hotdogs. Parking kind of sucks. Street parking is almost impossible to find. There is a parking lot behind the restaurant where you have to pay an app or website. Cheap fast ramen. Good value and very affordable to order alot of things since its quite cheap in comparison to other places. Whenever I am in calgary. I visit this place. I love it because I can order to my hearts content and it will always be less than $30 for myself. I recently got ramen and rice bowl and some salmon maki for just under $30. All the ingredients of the ramen were fresh and comparable to other ramen places. The broth is very rich and fatty. And personally I do like the broth and its quite similar to most places in calgary. In the basement they have a sushi store with a variety of very cheap sushi meals to go. Perfect if your in a rush! Always a go to for me and I would recommend you try it out. Food was so great. Was a bit worried with their sushi, but it tasted amazing. I had the rainbow rolls - and one flavor is mango which was so good! Ramen was also great. Not a big fan of regular tonkatsu ramen because of the flavor but their black ramen was delicious and not overpowering! Love the design of the place - plenty of seating downstairs, and also outside. The Ramen is really good but I wish they gave more broth, they charge an arm and a leg for more broth. The Mango sushi is yummy, and the best bubble tea flavor is the green apple but they don't put jellies in it anymore. Kind of hard to call it bubble tea without jellies, it's just juice in a cup. When we first moved to the neighborhood they used to put jellies in the boba but I guess that's too expensive for them now. Shrinkflation sucks for everyone. The Chicken Karaage is good tho. The Tokyo Poutine was good for a while but then they started to skimp on the gravy. read more

Food for $5? Yes, please. This famous hidden gem in downtown Calgary is known for their cheap menu with options to take out food or dine-in. You can get ramen for $5, sides for $5, and take out sushi for under $10. The quality of food was pretty good for what you're expected to pay and was still flavourful! I loved how they also have an bottom floor for more options to get take out. In some ways it felt like you weren't in Calgary at all as every aspect of the restaurant was an experience in itself. We had some miscommunication when ordering in person. I had wanted the Chashu Tonkotsu Ramen but probably ordered it in an unusual way by saying "Tonkotsu Chashu". We'll they have Chashu-Don and Chashu-men...... I was supposed to say "Chashu-men, Tonkotsu flavor".... I ended up with the Chashu-don...... And no ramen. When I brought it up turns out I was charged correctly for something I didn't want. They were super nice about it and allowed me to pay the difference so I could get the dish I wanted. My Chashu-men, Tonkotsu flavor was excellent (so glad they made it for me) and the bonus dish turned our great too. Overall very good food and excellent service. Will be back again. read more

Food are inexpensive here and probably one of the cheapest food/restaurants you can find in Calgary. Basically, you order and you sit down and wait till they bring your food over. The food doesn't necessarily come quick but again it really depends on what you order. There are limited seats inside and outside. Their seating concepts are about communal eating. They have long tables inside and outside. It is a place where you find a seat and just eat. More like eat and go place. I ordered the deluxe miso ramen and lamb skewers (3). Food was ok. Not wow. The deluxe miso ramen was $7 and portion size was not bad. Flavor was ok. The lamb skewer wasn't anything special. It did have a strong gamy flavor. I later got the potatoe twist cheese and onion flavor. I really liked the potatoe twist. However, that took like 30 mins to come. Probably it is because not many people orders it. Interesting concept. There's a tiny lot behind the place. Upon walking in you may be overwhelmed with the endless decor on the wall and the Asian snacks for sale on display. We came here on a random Tuesday lunch before heading to the airport and was able to grab a table quickly. The place slowly started filling up towards the end of our meal. The prices here are very affordable, it is dirt cheap if you convert to USD. The place sells ramen, yakitori, curry bowls, sushi, udon, the list goes on. For a bowl of ramen its around 6 to 8 CAD ($5 or less USD, dang... so cheap). Such a steal! I tried the spicy miso deluxe and the fiance had the curry bowl. The portion of my ramen was not bad for the price; a bit tiny but enough to fill me up (wasn't very hungry this time). The broth was flavorful and not too salty. If I was extra hungry I would've ordered something else to keep me full. The curry bowl is rice with Japanese curry, pretty tasty. We tried the pork belly yakitori skewer which was tasty. It came with 3 skewers for 5 CAD. I wanted to try more items on the menu; with my appetite now I would opt for 2 entrees. LOL. You order at the front and they give you a number to place on your table. The worker brings you your foods, which is convenient. My fiance's foods took sometime... but mines came out fairly quickly. After a hair pulling ordeal at the airport trying to procure our mishandled luggage. One could definitely work up an appetite. Cheap food, decent booze, no B.S. service,,, why not? Right? So we get here and we walk in. First thing we hear is the staff murdering the "Welcome, we're open for business." Greeting in Nihongo. "Hirashaimasu!" ... but what we heard when we walked in was. Haimase!!! Maybe the average Canadians don't care,, but this guy is deducting a star for that. #AttentionToDetail guys. Ok,, food.. Let's do this. Gyoza: Actually a very strong gyoza,, totally brought me back to when I use to frequent japan. The flavor and the texture was winning. Takoyaki: This one is actually a winner too. Perfect flavor and texture. Bonito flakes plus the mayo sauce combination is champion AF. Pork Belly Skewers: I could eat like 20 of these and keep going. It's that good man. Sauce and salty bits of pork is like a swift kick in the jaw. It's that good. Red Ramen Deluxe: With everything on it was pretty good. A bit overwhelming, but I do like the flavor. Plus the spiciness is totally ok point. Miso Ramen: My husbands choice and it was sublime. Perfect balance of umami and destruction. Yea, that about sums it up. Noodles were perfect and so are the accompaniments. Would've been a solid 4. BUT!!! Since I kept hearing everyone murder "HAIMASE!!" Listen, your food is amazing, but your front of the line employees seem to be dropping the ball on purpose. Hire people who are willing to pronounce the simple greeting. Found this place and we were excited to try it out. We were a little confused on how things work though. We walked in and there was really no instructions on what to do. Luckily, some one came in after us and basically we just did what he did. You seat yourself but before you do that you get a menu from the table that is right in front of you when you walk in. You mark what you want and take it up to the counter were you order. You pay and they give you a number and bring out your food. We ordered some ramen and some appetizers. The food came out pretty fast. My ramen which I got the miso ramen, was amazing. My husband ramen was good as well. The appetizers were good. Should you go for the imported drinks/candy/snacks/reads offered for very reasonable prices? Yes. Should you go for the extraordinarily good ramen with handcrafted noodles? Yes! The traditional street food served on skewers? Yaaaaaasssss! Walk in, place your order, pay and wait for a table( if it's busy). Extra points to the restaurant staff who ensured that we (who were first in line) got a table over a group of other patrons who cut in line and were loudly lobbying for "dibs" on the next available spot. Both the spicy soy and traditional miso ramen are exceptional. I am craving a return visit already. Spring the extra $2 and get the Deluxe. The 5 dollar version is in a plastic bowl whereas the deluxe -at 7 clams - is in ceramic with extra goodies and a nice spoon. You walk in and bubble in a menu of what you want before handing it to a cashier. The dishes are small and cheap so Tokyo Market encourages trying different items. Good variety of ramens, donburis, yakitori, and dumplings. The Miso ramen was okay, I wish the broth had a little more flavor and the chashu was thicker, it was thinner than a tissue. The karrage donburi was good but basic (spicy mayo, fried chicken, and rice). The pork dumplings were very good, I highly recommend. Pork belly yakitori was a crime. It's literary chewy pork and not what you expect as "pork belly", you'll be disappointed if you're expecting the latter. You can also buy other Japanese snacks if you're interested, anything from mochi to specialty drinks to salty chips. I went with friends and we all had ramen bowls with side dishes and the totals came to $12-14 a person. So cheap! There was a small line to order but the food came out quickly 5-10 minutes. Things to note: there is limited seating and no reservations so come before or after the dinner rush (at 6:30 it died down on a Tuesday evening). They were open on New Years Day and I got my craving for ramen totally satisfied! With most places closed for New Years Day, I was gratefully happy that we were able to come here. Order is placed at the counter, number assigned and brought to you at your table (FYI, the ramen can be ordered as regular or spicy and the spicy is not too spicy). I didn't know if the customer traffic was elevated due to most places being closed on New Years Day or if this was their usual. We came in as a group of four and we thought we would be separated for our meal just to be able to sit. It seemed that with a bit of patience, seating opened up and accommodated not only us, but others waiting to sit after placing their order. Located on Center Street, Tokyo Street Market is a great place to grab some late night food and/or authentic Japanese snacks/drinks/desserts. I really love the vibes of this place, it's always bustling and the staff are super friendly. There are always new items being added and many items that made me feel reminiscent of my recent trip to Japan (ex: melon pan, daifuku, canned Boss coffee). The prices are very reasonable and the ramen is some of the cheapest and in my honest opinion better than some of the ramen restaurants in Calgary! I always get a deluxe spicy miso ramen (they offer small bowls of ramen for $5 which includes seaweed and chasu pork but for $7 you can get the deluxe which includes an egg, beef brisket and some ground pork). One downer is that the egg is always hard boiled vs soft boiled like traditional ramen. I've tried their skewers as well but they were quite small pieces of meat and mediocre in taste. My winners here are the ramen and their $2.50 bubble tea!!! (It's premade in a cooler). My favourite is the fruit tea which comes with pearls and coconut jelly. I love the Japanese inspired art in the restaurant! They have a variety of snacks and food to choose from. Anywhere from desserts to noodles to sushi to curry. Prices are affordable and pretty darn flavourful and delicious! Sushi taste fresh. They are usually pretty busy but the line goes fast. Service was meh.. I personally didn't feel very welcomed entering the restaurant and felt like the staff were short with me when I inquired about menu items. Perhaps a bad day? Nevertheless, food is still good. Limited seating within the restaurant itself (doesn't matter for now because of Covid). They have an area upstairs where they serve fresh cooked food and downstairs where they have an array of refrigerated food such as sushi, bento boxes, etc. Check it out! read more

Heard some good reviews so decided to check this out with the family. A bit cramped inside but there is a patio. They have a parking lot and there is also street parking. Quite busy on this day but staff were efficient. Inside is really like a market place. Shelves and shelves of Japanese snacks and drinks. You grab a menu and seat yourself. When ready to order you head to the cashier. We came for the Ramen. They have 2 sizes a deluxe and regular. Both are reasonably priced. Deluxe is larger, and comes with more meat and a soya egg. We ordered the black deluxe, shoyu deluxe, and regular spicy. Deluxe comes in Japanese style bowls and non-deluxe is in a plastic bowl with plastic spoons. All of it was good. Not the best but good. We also ordered lamb in a stick which were excellent. For sushi we got a little salmon platter - it was ok. To drink we got lychee calpico, and water (serve yourself). I've had Tokyo Street Market on several occasions and some of my favorite dishes are: Black Deluxe Ramen, Gyoza, Truffle Prawn Roll, Seared Salmon Roll, Spicy Garlic Chicken Wings, Chicken Curry Donburi, and Pork Ribs. I've also ordered delivery from this place many times and it's always great. For this price point you really won't find anything this good in Calgary so I would advise checking it out. We were on the hunt of something different for donner Saturday night and ended up at Tokyo Street Market! As expected, it was bustling on a Saturday night. Luckily, we were 2 vacant spots! Service here is pretty quick; youre expected to seat yourself and head up to the cashier to place your order. Once your order has been placed, they give you a number and everything will be delivered to where you are seated. We ended up ordering a 5 piece oden (an assortment of fishcakes and meat), 3 pieces of each the beef and chicken yakitori, gyoza, and takiyaki! It was a chilly evening, so the oden was perfect! I loved the yakitori, though slighlty salty. Everything was nice and hot as it was brought out! Parking was relatively easy to find on the residential streets nearby. Overall, it was a fun experience. A great way to sample a variety of items traditionally considered to be street food in Japan. The portion sizes are not super huge but that goves you the opportunity to sample a good xhubk of the menu. read more

Probably one of our favorite places to go for quick and tasty Japanese street food. Tokyo Street Market has a cute and unique atmosphere(they have this cute manga wall!). Once you enter, you feel like you're entering a mini Japanese street market. There are tons of Japanes snacks and drinks you can buy that are priced reasonably. When you are ready to order you will need to grab an ordering form where you can mark which dishes you would like. The prices are very reasonable for the quantity and quality of the food, that's for sure! You can buy a small bowl of ramen for $5 and a large ramen bowl for $7. We have been going here a few times now and we have ordered the spy chiarsiu ramen, large spicy ramen, dumplings, chiarsiu and rice, takoyaki, and fried chicken and rice. Everything tastes pretty good, except their boiled egg was very overcooked to the point fo rubbery. But still, for $7 the whole bowl of ramen is very good, especially the broth. So definitely recommending this to friends and family, since it's a very family friendly restaurant. Also, I would just suggest that they have more than 2 high chairs just in case. read more
