Our puppy loved the ducks (and these were some FRIENDLY and INTERACTIVE ducks...) and we experienced some other cool avian sightings. Not a surprise - but the restrooms were suitably scary and during the first part of our visit, the overcast and gray sky made the cement building feel ripe for a horror movie experience... compete with a scary service truck and a man in stained overalls. (Please note, the gentleman was actually very friendly and engaging and was hard at work - he was not in any way a negative presence). The park is expansive and it was actually really busy for a Thursday evening. The dog park was intriguing but we ran out of time to visit. The play area had something for all ages and was popular with children through teens. Loads of parking and the shelter area was great for a school gathering. Can't wait to visit again!

There are plenty of green spaces and empty fields to play frisbee, flag football, or volleyball. I drove to the dog park area since the park is strict on having the dogs on leash at all times, so I went there. The dog parks for both small and large dogs are enormous! I have never seen that size of a dog park since I was in Colorado--and that state is known for being pet friendly, so their parks and restaurants are 90% pet-friendly. I took my dog to the small dog park as he is small. It was still 4 P.m. and too hot for my dog. There are not a lot of shades in the small dog area compared to the large dog area. I did not stay that long as my dog did not like being grilled under the sun. I checked out the rest of the park by driving around and noticed a vast playground, a marina (although the water has receded), empty fields, a picnic area, and even a camping area! If I had come later in the day when it was not too hot for my dog, I would have enjoyed my stay here. I have seen plenty of residents around here with their kids, birthday party groups, and groups playing frisbee. I can tell that it is a great park to visit. Cool spot ~

Chimney Rock Marina is one of a few marinas in the area that offers pontoon rentals. The Marina is well kept and family run. The pontoon was a 21' Bentley, which was clean and a decent rental. We had a great afternoon on it. Overall great experience and nice memories made. I did want to mention that I was a bit taken back when we returned the pontoon keys. We came back to the Marina and immediately walked the kids back to the RV to change and clean up a bit. Part of the rental agreement is "no pets allowed " We are rule followers, and we locked up our dog in the RV all day. When my wife and I, and now our dog on a leash, walked back down to the Marina to drop off the keys and end the rental, the owner accused us of bringing the dog on the boat. It was very awkward and really turned me off. I encourage them to review their video ( cameras everywhere) to stand corrected. 1 star off.

It is consistently cold in the cavern, and we dressed appropriately and were comfortable. This included neoprene fingerless gloves, wool socks, and clean water shoes. You cannot wear regular shoes as they scratch the clear kayaks. Our guide, Drew, and his "photographer", Matthew, were excellent. We felt safe, he provided a good amount of information, and had a sense of humor. A really cool experience in the Red River Gouge area.

She enjoys introducing her Colorado daughter to the beautifully forested, living beauty of Kentucky's natural world. Before departing the dock, we enjoyed browsing in the gift shop, with a great assortment of caps, tee shirts, memorabilia, and some Ale8! Upon boarding the boat, the crew offered a bourbon service that would rival most any local selection. We all enjoyed lovely bourbon refreshments! Together with visitors from Tennessee and other nearby states, we learned some Kentucky River geography and history, along with equine, bourbon, and horse racing history. The captain was skillful and knowledgeable, as she cruised the riverboat on the sunny Sunday afternoon. The tour guide was a true font of history with amusing anecdotes of his personal career in the bourbon industry and his overall knowledge of the Commonwealth. Treat yourself, your family and your friends to an altogether enjoyable, educational, and Kentucky-based adventure-- spend some time on the riverboat! You'll be glad you did! He was friendly, engaging and humorous. The round trip ride lasted about 90 minutes. The boat was very nice with bench seating and the ride was smooth. We sat upstairs in the open air to enjoy to scenery. A bar tender will take drink orders and deliver beverages to your seats. Drink prices are reasonable. Drinks can also be ordered and purchased on line. (I think snacks were also available). We booked our cruise several months in advance with tour and tasting tickets at Buffalo Trace Distillery. Two members of our party backed out and we were able to cancel their reservations (thankfully) the week before and get a refund. We started with our visit to Buffalo Trace. We arrived about an hour early so we could shop at the distillery and we were glad we did because we did not have time to shop after the tasting and getting to the boat. The tight timeline between the tasting and the boat departure was the only downside to the trip. I recommend the cruise, but plan on going at least an hour early to the distillery to shop.

The parking lot is so jammed around the ramp that it makes it highly difficult to access the ramp. The slips supposedly offer water and electric but the electric to ours did not work. Worse yet, we pulled our boat out for repairs and came back to find a barge owned by the marina parked in our slip and we could not put our boat back in. All of this in spite of paying nearly $2,000 for an annual slip fee. Did not get even a half a year use as our slip was taken after paying upfront. There was no notification by the marina that they were confiscating our slip or to ask us if we were returning. Just had to pull our boat home and leave it during a beautiful late summer and fall. Just a highly disappointing experience.
