I can't remember the name of the vet who did the surgery, but we were really happy with this pet clinic in general. I had called quite a few veterinary hospitals for quotes and shockingly the price ranged between $250 and $500 for the surgery + the meds! For a bunny?? Come on! Of course, I wasn't willing to pay that much so I shopped around until I came across the Etobicoke Veterinary Hospital. There we ended up paying $120 which included the surgery, the meds, an overnight stay for our bunny to monitor his recovery and nail clipping. He came home with a ruff since he twas trying to bite at the threads but other than that he was great. The vet did a nice job as it healed perfectly and you can't see anything. Also the staff was really friendly too. I called them twice while our bunny was staying there to make sure he was well and both times the vet tech reacted very nice and told me to stay on the line while she took a look at him again to tell me the latest update on how he seemed to be feeling. Thumbs up for this clinic.

Don't go here unless you plan to sit around for hours. Last time with an appointment, I waited 45 min. Totally ridiculous!

If you have ever had an ill pet and had to make a decision about emergency care you know how scary…read moreit can be. Emotionally and financially frightening. Not only is this clinic state of the art, packed with knowledgeable doctors and caring staff-but they don't take advantage of your misfortune by abusing your pocket book. The prices were very reasonable for an emerg clinic and the care was out of this world wonderful! My cat Samuel was very ill - dehydrated, not eating, losing weight. He was rapidly deteriorating within a week. I brought him to my regular vet and they recommended 24 hr care. I was sent to CTVRC where the staff was waiting for me and Samuel to arrive. I left him there and the staff assured me he was in good hands. The next morning Dr. Goldstein called me and proudly reported " Your boy is eating like a champ." The fluids and antibiotics were working and Samuel was making a turn around for the better. He was there for 5 days and I was able to visit every day as the clinic does provide a family room with a comfy couch. Dr. Goldstein is one of the most amazing vets I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He is knowledgeable, compassionate, and has a real love for animals. I always laugh when he picks up Samuel after an examination and cradles him in his arms as he talks to me about the next course of action to be taken. He really does care about his patients! Dr. Goldstein, not sure when you fell out of heaven, but I sure am glad you fell in my neck of the woods....you are truly an awesome doctor and an amazing person. Thank you for giving Samuel a second chance:)

[Do not go to Central Toronto Veterinary Referral Clinic (CTVRC)]…read more To fellow pet parents: Do not be misled by some positive rating. My experience reveals that this hospital selectively solicits feedback only during "smooth" visits while ignoring cases fraught with issues. I urge you to scroll through their other negative reviews; you will notice a recurring pattern in management's responses: a defensive, gaslighting tone that blames the owner to deflect from their own clinical and communication failures. I am sharing my senior cat's (12.5 years old) journey to warn you. While their surgical skills may be adequate, their post-operative "care" is a transactional nightmare. 1. Management's "Gaslighting" & Refusal of Accountability When my cat suffered a preventable post-op infection due to their vague and insufficient wound-care instructions, the response was not professional concern, but aggressive defensiveness. The manager's response (see attached screenshot) is a masterclass in "victim-blaming." Instead of addressing the lack of guidance, they attempted to weaponize my "attitude" as a concerned owner against me. It took immense pressure to receive even a reluctant apology. They would rather argue for an hour than admit a flaw in their protocol. 2. Aggressive Upselling & Disregard for Quality of Life Despite Milou's advanced age, the specialists pushed for extreme, high-revenue options like full-limb amputation and chemotherapy. They hide behind the "we must list all options" excuse, but the narrative was clearly steered toward the most expensive and aggressive procedures. It felt less like a medical consultation and more like a sales pitch that prioritized their bottom line over a senior animal's peace of mind. 3. The "Emergency" Illusion vs. Reality They claim to have constant emergency availability, but my observations in the waiting room suggest otherwise: Feb 12th: I watched the parents of a shaking dog wait for over three hours--having to eat lunch in the waiting room--only to be told to go home because the facility "lacked availability." Feb 26th: In the room closest to the lobby, I heard a male doctor loudly exclaim "Everything looks bad!" before even closing the door. This performative alarmism seems designed to instill fear and pressure parents into high-cost decisions. 4. Transactional Professionalism Their recurring response during crises was: "This is all we can do." While technically a statement, the dismissive delivery earned this 1-star review. Compared to my local vet (Juno), CTVRC's communication is heartless. They offer "free rechecks" as a funnel to pressure you into unnecessary, billable tests. To the CTVRC Management: I anticipate your canned response: "You could have brought him in for an emergency check, but you chose not to." Let me be clear: seeing how you treated that shaking dog and how you spoke to that dog parent, I knew returning would only feed your revenue stream without benefiting my cat. God and Karma see the truth. Regardless of the polished PR responses you post here, the universe knows whether you truly care for animals or just the transactions they represent. If your intentions are not as you claim, karma will eventually do the work. Summary: Save your money and your pet's dignity. My experience was purely transactional and lacked basic empathy for a senior animal. Read their responses to other 1-star reviews--the blaming the victim style tells you everything you need to know about their ethics.

Dr. Ron actually cares about my dog and he is definitely an animal person. He is very thorough and explains everything so that I have a good understanding - this also helps calm me down a little when there is something wrong with my dog. Downsview Veterinary Hospital isn't like other cash grabbing veterinaries. Dr. Ron has come in earlier than business hours to accomodate my schedule for a follow up to ensure that my dog is healing properly. My friend also takes his dog here and Dr. Ron has even stayed later to see his dog and to make sure he is okay after being neutered. The support staff is also friendly and very helpful. Everyone is very welcoming. I would recommend this vet to anyone. I have spoken to grooming places and when asked where my dog's vet is, they mention that they have heard good things about Downsview Veterinary Hospital.

It is rare that one gets to meet a person like Dr. Ron. From the moment I met him, seeing how he treated my cat and myself, informative, expert, yet warm and understanding, I knew he was different than all the other vets I've dealt with over the years (I'm looking at YOU Animal Hospital of High Park... UGH). My cat was 14 years old and a raccoon had found its way into our house, by the time we got it out, it had managed to infect her with a brutal flea problem. Dr. Ron quickly assessed the problem, showed us an ingenious way of quickly testing the cat to see if she still had fleas, and administered the appropriate medication to fix the issue. A few months later I noticed a bump on her jaw. As she was getting old and losing teeth I assumed it was an infected tooth issue, so I took her in. Turns out it was cancer. A tumor. Dr. Ron explained in GREAT detail what we were dealing with, our options, our time frame, everything. Over the 3 months that she lasted he was always there when we needed him, as was the entire staff, and the other vet here (I'm sorry I can't remember her name) to ensure my kitty was well medicated, taken care of, pain-free, and enjoying the time she had left on this earth. This week the time came to finally put her to sleep. Dr. Ron as always was the peak of professionalism, laying out our options, explaining what was about to happen, and even arranging it so we could take care of all paper work and payments up front, so that when she passed away, we could spend as much time with her alone as we wanted, and when we were done we could just walk out and not have to talk to anyone or deal with any paper work. Small touch but it showed a deep understanding. Now here's the thing that my be perceived as a good OR a bad thing, but when the time came to give her an injection to put her down, my wife and I were just a hot mess. I held her head in my hands as they gave her the injection and it speaks volumes about the care in which they handle their animals that even though two people were holding her down and giving her a big needle, she was purring the whole time, looking up at me. Gentle and professional. However when it was time to say goodbye, and he stuck his hand out to shake mine and express his condolences as he quickly made his way out the door to give us alone time to say goodbye, I was overcome by the fact he was deeply in tears and visibly upset. I understand some people want their funeral directors and doctors, etc to be the epitome of stability, a rock in tumultuous times. Hell I just assume you can't DO this job unless you can turn that kind of thing RIGHT off. But for me? It meant so much, and said so much, to see him express such emotion at a time when I felt like my heart was being ripped out of my chest. I think he is just a sensitive, caring, wonderful man who could not help but show the appropriate emotional response to an incredibly sad moment. I will forever be grateful to him and his staff and how they treated us and our pet. I can't say I will ever be ready to get another pet, but if I were to, I would drive hours if need be to ensure that Downsview Veterinary Hospital was the place they were taken care of. This is the longest review I've ever written, holy hell. I can't help it. Just blown away by these people.
