What's worse, a bigot or a coward? Thankfully, Ryland and Carrie don't have to choose. My father needed a place to stay for a month after his hospital stay. Our agent set up a tour of the facility, during which Ryland showed us the respite room that was available. The next morning we elected to reserve the room and our agent sent in all paperwork and his patient chart. However, upon learning that my father had a history of mental illness, Ryland called and asked me a million questions and asked if he could meet him, to which I agreed. Multiple hours passed then Ryland sent a sheepish email to my agent saying that a resident's family had coincidently reserved the respite room while he was supposed to be meeting my dad but was "held-up". Does he really think I'm that stupid? Given the highly unlikely chance this was true, I asked if he could get him into an apartment, to which he replied "no". He explained that family has first priority, even though we were waiting on him to finalize the deal. I then emailed Carrie, the executive director, asking for clarification. She perpetuated the same implausible story of how the room was reserved. I then emailed her back, asking what options they had for apartments. If this story was true, wouldn't they take some accountability and try to work out a solution? No response to multiple emails. Just tell me the real reason why you won't accept him. Kipling Meadows is the best Independent Living community in Arvada. They just had a wonderful Easter meal for their Residents, their kids and grandkids. It was delicious and the serving staff were so patient and kind. Highly recommend! read more

I have had the opportunity of talking with one of the residents here. She says the management changes frequently. They have laid off a lot of people. They are short staffed. Often there are dirty dishes and food debris left at the table. Residents are dinning at these dirty, uncleared tables. The water pitchers and glasses also look dirty. The quality of food is poor. Serving a lot of beans and rice and fried unhealthy foods. It seems they are cutting many corners. Residents wait a long time to get their food. Rent is at a premium, and they raise the rates at unusually high amounts. It would seem for a place that charges so much one would expect better quality food and service. It is a shame to see the elderly being so poorly treated. read more

Management changes frequently. Some are great and some not so. Depending on who is managing at the time, it could be less than desirable or wonderful place to live. Currently, (August 2014) if your loved one has dementia or any special needs, stay away. They have very little tolerance. Management is focused more on clerical work. The office door is usually closed and best not to disturb. Aside from this, the facility is fairly new and very attractive and pleasant. read more

My Mother is going on 2 years at Kipling meadows. We are now looking for another place. The management has changed. With the new management they have cut exercise programs, the lunch bistro is no longer an option to eat at, the meals have significantly gotten worse as in less of a selection and less healthy. The staff has been decreased and the outings and activities have decreased significantly. Yet, the rent has increased. My mom is now buying more food to prepare herself in a NON-kitchen apartment (non of the apartments have a true kitchen - fridge and sink, you supply the microwave- or other cooking appliances). Her eating habits have decreased, she has gained weight due to no longer having daily exercise options. This facility is too expensive with too little choices and too little community organized activities. There was one meeting where the management suggested the residence take on organizing the outings and activities as the management was cutting the coordinator as well as cut the most popular fitness class/trainer. They hired a non seasoned/trained person to lead exercise classes!!! WE ARE NOT HAPPY HERE ANYMORE!!! HOLIDAY TOUCH has turned this place upside-down from what it was just two years ago. If you want a place that has a healthy living lifestyle with healthy food options, LICENSED exercise facilitators and plenty of community events.... THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO GO!!!!! read more

Things change rapidly....my mother has been a resident here for a couple years. There is constant change in managers - I believe in three years she has been through a minimum of 9 management changes. This is a residence for elderly people and they don't like change. Arvada Estates, run by Holiday Retirement, does not seem to understand that. Now they have a manager that, frankly, is a crackpot and walks her dogs around the facility in a baby carriage. This includes the dining facility where food is served. I can guarantee if every resident that has a dog brought that dog to the dining room the management would tell them dogs are not allowed where food is. But this is a manager, so no one says a thing. Apparently, these dogs help this manager remain calm. This is only what I have been told. The food is okay, at best. Lunch is the best meal, dinner is by far the worst. When they offer tomato soup and grilled cheese, it is watered down soup and cheese on bread warmed - the term grilled or even melted is a stretch. The use of a lot of "recycled" food is common. Any vegetable had on Monday and Tuesday becomes a succotash or soup on Wednesday. My mother pays a lot of money to reside here. The quality of the food and cleaning - two things that she was unable to do for herself any longer - both leave a lot to be desired. The "basic" room cleaning is supposed to entail cleaning the bathroom (almost never) and basic dusting, among other small cleaning details. While dusting they are not allowed to pick things up or move things. Dusting is never done - I can write my name in all her furniture and her TV screen. Because of their poor standards and lack of help, I end up cleaning my mom's place. I'm not complaining - I don't mind cleaning it. I do mind her paying almost every dollar of her pension and social security to have these things done that don't get done at all. When my mother first moved in here, guests were allowed to join her from time to time to enjoy a meal with her. We were told, when first looking at Arvada Estates, that this was one of the "perks" of residency - that you could have a guest join you for a meal from time to time. The guests meal was free. The assumption was that the resident's paid enough to cover the minimal cost of a piece of dry chicken and some leftover vegetables for a guest. That has since been cut out. They now charge $10 for a guest meal and limit each resident on the number of guest tickets they can purchase. Again, just another change that we have no control over even though it was one of the reasons we chose Arvada Estates for my mother. The nice, little extras that make people feel like they are welcomed and make the person residing here feel a little more like home. I can guarantee you that they are feeding their residents for about $3 a meal, if that. The food is all frozen - nothing is fresh. Why not allow X number of free meals for a guest per month and charge after that? In addition my mother had to go to rehab recently for a long-term stay. In the past, when that occurred one other time, the then manager saw to it that the cost of her meals were reimbursed. She had paid her "rent" for the months she was away and the manager at the time arranged for corporate to refund her meals since she was not there. When we asked about it this time we were told they no longer do that. That same manager also worked it out with corporate to refund my mother part of her rent - again, she was not there for months. This time when we asked about any reimbursement against her rent we were told they don't do that and never have. Well, yes actually, you have done that in the past as my mother benefitted from it. If you are visiting different independent living facilities with your aging parents, don't be deceived by the fancy entry or dining room. Look past all that - speak with current residents in private and see what they have to say. Read reviews. Don't just settle on a place because of price or looks. Look at many and talk to the people that count - not the managers that are only trying to sell you. If your parent or elder enjoys good food, a constant, steady and non-changing environment, DO NOT consider Arvada Estates. read more

If you are looking for a a nice "looking" place for your loved ones, this is a good place to go. However, if it's important to you for your loved ones to eat healthy meals, that are not only nutritious but taste great (or even good, on most days), then this is not the place for you. Their food is horrible most days, sending out food that is cold, stale and old. A cold of food with corn (no season or butter), some kind of bratwurst type sausage w/ no bun, ketchup, mustard, relish, nothing. A plate with corn and sausage, that's it! Oh, and a brownie that could not even be cut with a knife it was so old. Personally I am very concerned about my loved ones health and nutrition, mal-nourishment is a serious issue, especially in the elderly. When this concern was brought up to Kim, she had no empathy whatsoever, and continued to blame anyone else she could for the state in which the food was in. She had no sign of care or concern over the issue, which I found to be VERY concerning! Concerning enough to write this review, my first review of ANY establishment EVER! Arvada Estates was recently bought from Holiday and ever since the establishment has been on a downward spiral of disappointments. Especially the food! They have recently raised the rent, claiming the cost of food has gone up, yet the food resembles what you would get served in a jail or low income cafeteria. I expect that if rent is raised due to food cost, food then should improve, not get worse. Our Grammy had visited a lot of places, and this is by far the best one we have found for her. It's very home like, the staff is very caring, and they have so many activities for them a+++++ in my book. We live close by in Arvada and would recommend Arvada Estates. read more
