My sorority sisters and I went to Kirin for our founders day celebration. The wait was not long at all (it was Monday) and we were seated at the hibachi table immediately. The serves came about 3-5 min after we were seated. She took out drink orders and came back quickly to get the food orders. The cook came. He did not verify our orders. He proceeded with preparation of the meals. The rice was so salty. Like to the point where it was not edible. I asked for white rice to cut it and that didn't work at all. Next he started we the shrimp. I ordered chicken and shrimp. He forgot my shrimp. He cooked the vegetables and chicken and I still hadn't received my shrimp. In between entrees he would clean the grill with the scrapper and I told him in 2 previous occasions that stuff was flying in my food. Finally after all the food was served, he managed to give me the shrimp. Right after, he started scraping the grill and my sauce was filled with scrapings from the grill. It was then that I called the manager. I explained to him what had occurred and he just stared at me ( there could have been a language barrier) When the waitress bought the ticket my meal was still on there and I asked her to take it off because I didn't touch it and they did. read more

We stopped by at 9 o'clock on a Thursday night on our way to the beach with our three year old and 9 month old in tow. It wasn't very busy but still busier than most places at 9pm. We decided to do Hibachi, while my three year old wanted chicken nuggets, which were promptly brought out, within 10 minutes of us arriving. Everything, from the salad, to the soup, then to the chicken and filet hibachi, was fabulous. The rice was perfect and the noodles I ordered were different than most, more of a ramen style noodle, but excellent in taste. The service was beyond amazing, our drinks were never empty, and the waitress was kind to both of my girls. We will definitely be back to Kirin! read more

Kirin offers great sushi for the Hammond area. The decor is modern, not what you would usually see in this area. I really like the design of the building. The sushi is high quality and freshly prepared. For the non-sushi eaters, the menu offers typical Asian inspired dishes which are also really good. The drink menu is better than what one would expect. They are open for lunch until 2pm during the week, dinner from 5pm, closed Sunday. The sky bar is a lot of fun for after dinner drinks. The bar is located on the second level, and has an outdoor balcony with a view of the other downtown bars. The martini menu has a lot of cocktails that are served in martini glasses. Typical cosmo, lemon drop, chocolate martinis.. not real martinis! The bartenders serve up a great dirty martini, if you decide to skip the designer-ish drinks. Great for an intimate date night or a group.. prices are a little higher than average, service is just average. Service can be a little slow during busy times. It is the best sushi experience that Hammond has to offer. read more

Best hibachi and sushi around!! We went for the hibachi and you sit around the grill. The chef was super entertaining and interacted well with the kids. The portions were huge! Tons of left overs. The sushi is always cold and fresh! Presentation is great too. The Pontchatrain Roll is our favorite. You may have a small wait for seating at the hibachi but they have a full bar so you can have a drink while you wait. The staff is super. Even the manager comes to the tables to check on the service. While I enjoy the food choices here, the quality of personnel has gone downhill. Maybe that's what happens when there is no adult supervision on the floor...just a bunch of loud mouth college kids. There is some very LOUD male kid behind the sushi counter tonight (10.14.19) talking about customers. I say talking, but you can hear him all over the restaurant. He's cursing a lot and some girl named Kaylyn?? Just flipped him off as she walked off and he Loudly proclaimed, "Yes, give me more of that." I haven't tried the Hibachi here but it looked pretty good. Everybody gets a complimentary bowl of soup which is your typical Japanese clear soup.. My coworker ordered the fusion fillet and it came with rice and vegetables. He said it was pretty tender and could cut it with a fork. I ordered the meat Maki appetizer which came on a sizzling platter with onions and green peppers. It's thinly sliced steak wrapped around asparagus and onions. It was delicious! The barbecue sauce that it was cooked in was not too overwhelming. I also ordered a couple of rolls that had no rice. When was called the Phoenix roll and they were both pretty good. The food is absolutely amazing and I especially love most of their unique special sushi rolls. Hands down the best sushi in Hammond but I only give 3 stars due to the food serving staff. My last several experiences at Kirin was mediocre due to our server forgetting to communicate our order to kitchen or bringing out the wrong item which then extends the waiting time until we are able to eat or we ended up cancelling the forgotten dish and had to pick up food somewhere else after we left because my sister never received her meal. I don't understand why the servers don't always write down our food orders. But other than poor food server training or lack of skills or short term memory...the food is still great. Every time that my husband and I go here on a date night we end up eating at the sushi bar even though I'm vegan. I don't mind it though because the sushi bar attendance are hilarious and they seem to have a way to Advance themselves ride into a conversation that you may be having with your spouse or friend. I can see how Kirin can deemed the best sushi/Japanese in Hammond. Other than Nagoya, I'm not sure what other restaurant there is to compare it to (shrugs). We tried the sesame chicken, a side of hibachi rice, and sushi rolls. I didn't write down the name of the rolls, so I forgot the names. The sesame chicken was very greasy and had more of the grease flavor. There was nothing special about the hibachi rice. The rolls were pretty good, but definitely not the best. They had a strong seafood flavor. I'm not sure if that's a good thing because it could mean the seafood was fresh or a bad thing because it was so evident in the taste and smell. read more

You can never get through. I love Kirin, and would love to have their sushi again. But there is absolutely no way to get in contact with them in this age of social distancing. The phone is continually busy. Sometimes the phone does actually ring and I think I've finally made it. But then the call ends and I'm hung up on. They say that 'online ordering is coming soon' but their website has said that for months. I hate to say this, but Cate Street has a much better system in place. Have eaten here many of times over the years and have had excellent service. The new girl working the bar is HORRIBLE. We usually eat in the bar at a table and service in the past has been great. Tonight she would not bring us out drinks, any plates or soy sauce for our food and our order was wrong!!! I can understand the management not wanting to retain good servers I just hope they understand me going to the sushi restaurant down the street. The only reason i cant give them a perfect rating is bc of the female bartenders upstairs. They have the worst attitudes ever. The best place to get sushi and Japanese in Louisiana! No other place compares to Kirin! The amazing decor and Asian style architect of the building is amazing! Really makes you feel as if you are in a traditional but modern fancy restaurant in Japan! The service is ALWAYS incredible and the prices are amazing. The appetizers are priced just right, as a restaurant should! (Many restaurants jack the prices up of their appetizers, but appetizers are supposed to be just an up charge!) My last visit, the bill was only $46.00 including the tip! We ordered the Seaweed Salad, Crab Tempura, and Sesame Chicken as our appetizers. Then 2 or 3 orders of the Crunchy Rolls, 1 order of Cajun Rolls(THE BEST!), and 1 order of the Soft Shell Crab Roll! Oh, and not to mention the complimentary clear soup when you are first seated! That is A LOT of food for 2 people! We had so much food leftover we needed 2 bags to carry it out! Ate the leftovers the next day for lunch and dinner! The waitress didn't charge us for our drinks either! THE FOOD HERE IS ON POINT! The best of the best! Soooo worth the 30 minute ride to Hammond from Covington! Really wish they would open up a restaurant in Mandeville or Covington though, they'd seriously make a killing!
