This place sits in a strip mall area so plenty of parking and access is easy. We were traveling with the youth hockey team and we didn't have a reservation. They seated our large party quickly on a Friday night. The restaurant was busy though so it seemed we may have just got lucky with an open table. We got a large assortment of sushi, nigiri and chinese food. Service was quick and attentive and food presentation was unique. The sushi and nigiri was fresh and tasty. I have been going to Kissho sushi for over 12 years and never once experienced such a low quality roll. I ordered a crab meat & cream cheese roll and this is what I got. There is barely any cream cheese and when I brought this up to management their server was very rude. Stopped by Kissho with my family on our way to NY. The restaurant is in a small strip mall and wasn't hard to find. Note: restrooms are located outside the restaurant and down the hall, you'll need a code to access it. I ordered a bunch of sushi to share. The seaweed salad was small, but tasty. My son had a ginger salad which he normally loves at Japanese restaurants but he said the dressing was just ok and there wasn't a lot of it. Miso soup and dumpling soup were ok. I had imagined my dumpling soup to be dumplings instead of the shumai but it wasn't bad. The sushi was good though I didn't care for the volcano roll. The presentation could have been better. I was expecting some fire or something resembling a volcano. It tasted much different than volcano rolls I've had at other places, probably because of the flakes that it was covered it (it was quite fishy IMO). The rest of the rolls were good and tasted fresh. We were the only ones here when we placed our order (which took 15 minutes in and of itself to do). It took about 40 minutes to receive our order. This is located inside a strange shopping center with minimal exterior signage. In the mean time, service from Abigail was good and the food was fine. Here are a few areas for improvement, taking into consideration that sushi in York, PA is not going to be the same as NYC or Tokyo. The ikura was not great. It probably is seldom ordered but my 14 year old ordered it anyway. It was edible but not "poppin' fresh". I ordered 2 pieces (one order) of Hamachi sashimi, and it, too, was borderline. Slightly cat-foodish. Now for the good, the salmon was just fine. We shared a salmon sashimi plate (12 slivers) and devoured it. Rolls were fine, tuna, salmon, avocado, crunches, spicy mayo, the typical. Tamago was (as predicted) frozen, but fine. There is no way a place like this is making homemade tamago. I grabbed takeout tonight, two Chef's Rolls -- the Lobster Roll and the Ichiban Roll. Both were fantastic! Great flavor. Friendly service at the front podium as well. I've been here twice now, and I have to say my second experience was lots better than the first time. My first experience with Kissho would have earned 3, maybe 4 stars. For my second experience, I had possibly the best sushi I've had in York. The fish was as fresh and tasty as any other place in York has to offer. The food was very well prepared, which always makes the sushi experience that much better. I've only ever had takeout here, and I have to say I'd now like to try eating there just to see how artistic the sushi chefs are. I view a plate of sushi like a work of art and I would like to see a set up a little different than sushi stuffed into a to go box. The calamari was also excellent here. It was still crispy even after getting the to go order home. The atmosphere also seems nice for a small little place. The staff is very friendly too. Prices are on par with other local sushi restaurants. This is quite the gem for York. I can remember growing up in York when there probably was not even one sushi restaurant. Now there are numerous places to get sushi, and this one gets my vote as the best place to get it. Give it a try if you find yourself in the area. read more

I came here with my sister on a Saturday evening and I like that it's pretty small and intimate. The BYOB policy is amazing and to date, this is the best sushi I have had in York. The only reason why this is not getting 5 stars is because of the wait. There were only three tables, including my own, that were seated, but it took a really long time for us to get our food. I don't normally complain about something like this, but for the amount of food that we ordered, the multiple to-go orders that went out while we were there, and a fourth table that sat later and got their food before us, I'm obliged to bring it up. The service was excellent and it's a great place to catch up with family and friends. Some places in York have good food but always so loud, so Kissho gets extra points for that. Good sushi, good price, good service. What more can you ask for ? I've tried all kind of sushi here, the genji roll and volcano roll is my favorite. The yakisoba was very good too. The sushi was fantastic. I didn't try anything else yet, but I'm glad to see that there is a wide variety of Japanese food instead of just sushi. The service was a little slow, but there was a larger groups that ordered before us so it wasn't really their fault. We came in at 5:15, ordered at 5:40, and got our meal at about 6:30. The woman came over and apologized for it taking so long. They do take out, so those were made before too. But honestly, that's a NORMAL time for waiting on sushi. It Really wasn't a big deal. Kissho has probably the best sushi in York County, so far, at least as far as I am concerned. Its over by the York hospital across the street in a small plaza, the location is a bit awkward - and there is no restroom in the restaurant, it is a shared restroom in the plaza, which is a bit different. Kissho is more of your traditional Japanese style restaurant, it is very pleasant, quiet and relaxing - without all the gimmicy trappings of other Asian places. The service is friendly and impeccable, I've eaten here many time over the years and never had a complaint. They are BYOB which is ok - but I would prefer that they serve beer or wine, but you can't win them all. Typically I would get nigiri or sashimi here, but on different occasions I have had a few of their rolls as well - I love the Akira and the Atlantic rolls, they are my favorites. The kids often get the fried rice or the yakisoba - sometimes the udon. It is all wonderful here. If you really love sushi and/or real Japanese cuisine Kissho is worth a visit - truly a gem here in York read more

Sushi wise I really enjoyed my meal, the leanest Salmon I have ever had in this area, carefully prepped with a nice presentation. Squash roll was sweet and interesting find on the menu. There were about five other tables full when we ordered. They apologized about the 20 so minute wait on the order but I did not mind much, they even tied us over with some edamame on the house. I had a Salmon combo which was perfect for me. Small order of salmon rolls, 3 pieces of salmon sashmi, 2 nigiri. and a nice spicy salmon hand roll. $17.95 in the end and at first glance the menu seemed a bit pricey, maybe a dollar over what you pay elsewhere but then all their simple sushi rolls are roughly the same price. The fish seems to be high quality, lots of variety on the sushi menu and presentation is spot on. The look of the place is like a well kept little Japanese cafe, nice decor but to too cheesy, fresh paint on the walls and nice tables. The place is small and I imagine its not ideal for big parties unless they have more chairs hidden some where and more than one person making the sushi. Other things on the menu include: Teriyaki, Rice Bowls, Tempura entrees, Katsu, Yakisoba, Udon and Ramen.... haven't tried any of them but I am sure I will be back soon for a nice wintery udon soup soon. I will say that their sushi is good - thorough menu, tasty rolls. However, every time I've been there the service was so s-l-o-w. During each visit, they only had one server on staff and everything took forever to come out. For my carryout order, I waited 30 minutes before driving in and then sat there for 20 additional minutes.
