Wow wow wow, I os the instructor is the best calm, patient, very experianced in a number of disciplines. I had been researching schools and instructors. The larger schools have their system to allow for the maximum monetization of the learning process. None of them wanted to consider my experience and look at a customized learning plan. Ino was willing to look create a tentative lesson plan of course dependent on my demonstrating the nessary skills to progress. In my 3 hour lesson I got to experience doing a water start. Along with practicing all the nessary land skills to move to the water. And start practicing body drags. If you've skimmed his reviews, you already know that Ino is an amazing instructor: knowledgable, patient, funny, generous, just basically a great person to learn from. My point in writing this review (and I almost never write reviews) is to say something about taking lessons from Ino versus going with a school. Not all schools are the same, of course, but it's worth thinking about their business model. Schools make money from packing students into their courses, and from sales of equipment to those students. It helps if some students actually learn to kiteboard (and that most students have fun during the lessons), because that builds the school's credibility. Other than that, though, whether you learn to kite or not is pretty incidental to the money-making program. To make the most money, they need the greatest number of students, and the greatest number of equipment sales. If some large percentage of their students/clients don't actually progress to kiteboarding on a regular basis, that has little impact on their bottom line. With Ino (and other great individual instructors) it's totally different. Not only are you getting individual attention versus being one of many, but the personal connection means Ino is really invested in your learning. He WANTS you to become a kiteboarder. He's excited for you to progress, to get out their on your own, to join the community of kitesurfers, to feel the stoke. I took four lessons a few years back from one of the well-reviewed Bay Area schools, and got nothing but physically worked from a kite that was too big for the conditions. And thinking about that experience, I realized afterwards that the instructors and the school really didn't care whether I learned to kite or not. Indeed, they seemed to fully expect that I would not be able to learn. They seemed to be selling more the experience of "trying to kiteboard" than actual lessons designed to ensure students become kiteboarders. Now, some of this comes from the students themselves. We look for lessons that promise to put is in the water and on a board quickly, when the truth is, kiteboarding is 90 percent or more about kite control, and if you really want to become a kiteboarder, you should buy a bar-controlled trainer kite and put in some serious hours on it before ever going near the water. The is true too even if you're going to work with Ino. But assuming you really want to kiteboard--and that you've put in your time on a trainer--go with Ino. He's not only an awesome instructor, he's focused on making sure you actually become a kiteboarder. read more

Ino is a great teacher. He helped me get from beginner up to advanced level kiteboarder. Before meeting him I tried two other places and never made significant progress. He is very passionate about the sport with 20 years of experience and pays a lot of attention to each student. Ino might be the nicest, most encouraging guy I've ever met. And that is not a trivial thing when you're doing something as potentially stressful as strapping a giant kite to your waist that could drag you across the beach. I rarely post reviews online for lack of time. However, I think this is one review worth making to help those that are searching for a really great kiteboarding instructor. I have taken lessons in Brazil and here in the SF Bay area on 3rd ave so I have some experience in the matter. I met Ino through another guy I knew from San Francisco that didn't have enough good things to say about him. His reputation certainly precedes him. Ino is not only a great guy, but an amazing instructor - professional, knowledgeable about technique and gear, focused on safety, and he maintains a very optimistic attitude. His own confidence rubs off on you and gives you the motivation to progress in a big way. As an IKO level 2 instructor, he has the credentials that most instructors in the area do not have. He can also give you certification with IKO so that you can kite anywhere in the world. His rates are more than reasonable, and he is very flexible on meeting time. I took one lesson with Ino and made huge progression. I will certainly be taking more. If you are looking to begin kiteboarding, or want to take your riding to another level, Ino is the instructor you should seek out. read more

This is a long over due review for Ino the AL-Kiter (lol) Ino is not only a great kiting instructor but his air, presence, and charisma has influenced me greatly in the way I view kiting. I took my first lesson from Ino 2 years ago but before that I actually had about 8 hours of instructions from other places and yet was still struggling with water start. But water start was all I cared and focused on back then. After seeing how I handled the kite, Ino told me water start is not hard but the trick is all in kite control. He told me to forget about the board for the time being, and just practice on my basic body drag. I put my ego aside and followed his instruction to body drag. And pretty soon I realized while I thought I was a profecient at body dragging, I wasn't. Ino said, come out and practice on your own for a few more times on body dragging then I should be okay to water start. I was plenty confused ?????. I followed his advice and went out to practice body dragging on my own for the next 5 days. Each time for 1hr. First without a board then with the board. At the end of my 5 day practice I realized so many things about kite control which I wasn't even aware of in the past. My kite control became smooth, subtle, and more precise. I can hold the kite parked at 10, 12, or at 1, and I still would have really good body control and won't spin in the water Another improvement I realized is my kite becomes more stable in my hand and I don't crash it anymore. These two asepcts of improvements are important because water start is all about a smooth delivery of power to get you off the water into riding while maintaining your body position. If you crash your kite left and right each time you try a water start, you waste so much time water relaunch and getting your board back. I am writting this review after 2 years is because the more I kite and the better I get I realized I and still drawing from the things I learned about the kite during the 5 day body dragging practice. So I want to say to Ino a big big thank you for doing me a solid back then. And hope I will you out there on the water soon! Kite safe! read more

Ino is an exceptional kiteboarding instructor. he has above and beyond the necessary credentials and certifications, and he's an amazing friend and person to boot. even though i do not live in the bay area, every time i make it out there, i still get a lesson with Ino. he's the best instructor i've had. he's super patient, is very observant which means great feedback, and he's got tons of positive energy which makes it a great environment for learning. you never feel frustrated or unsafe. plus if you have to chill on the beach waiting for wind to pick up, it helps that you're with a very cool, awesome guy in general. if you really want to pick up kiting, grabbing a one-on-one lesson with Ino will surpass anything else available in the area. you wont regret it, and probably get hooked for life! read more

Yea Ino.... What gets me is how well I do when I am around him. Like his magic Kite Techniques rubs off when your near him. And he is unbelievably kind, cool, and impassioned with Kite Boarding. Ino is a fantastic instructor. Very knowledgable and extremely patient. He starts with land lessons, helps you get the right kind of gear (he has hook-ups in the area to get you a good deal too!), and will get you riding in no time. He's IKO certified too (I had no idea what this was until I went to the IKO website. He's one of just a few certified in the U.S.) Because Ino is independent, he works around YOUR schedule instead of you working around a kiting school's schedule.
