We drove from Virginia Beach for a day in obx and this was the highlight of our day! They start off by having one of the instructors give a short history of the school and hang gliding. Then they show an instructional video explaining the logistics of how you will operate the hang glider. After the video they take you outside to a demo glider and physically show you how to put your harness on and hook yourself to the glider. Then it's time to walk to the dunes! Once you get to the top of the sand dune you break up into groups (if necessary) with your instructor. We had Jesse and he was great! Very patient and takes the time to explain one more time how to hook into the hang glider and the logistics of how your flight will go. My advice is to bring tonssss of water. It can get pretty hot up there and you are running some and climbing back up the dune and you can honestly not get enough water lol. Also, just make sure to really listen to the instructors. They know what they are talking about and if you listen you will have good flights! If you will be in the area I definitely recommend this. It's sounds a lot scarier that it was, I promise! Lol.

Great friendly instructors. But telephone and front counter staff are chaotic. And our party of six started off with a bad experience.

Fun times, even though I crashed the landing EVERY SINGLE TIME. I took the 3 hour beginner's hang gliding lesson. It did last exactly three hours. Here is a rundown of my day: -Get there 30 minute early to sign the four page waiver -Classroom instruction where the instructor talks about the basics of hang gliding (equipment, movements, FAQs, etc.) -Watch 2 short videos; one for Jockey Ridge State Park and one for Kitty Hawk Kites -Go outside to watch the instructor go over instructions with the stationary hang glider in front of the park -5-10 minute break -Get helmets, harnesses, and permits -Walk to the dunes and instructor demonstrates a flight -You hook in and review the movements. Then you're off! Go twice, wait, go twice, wait, then one final "victory flight" -Walk back to the store, return equipment, fill out your certificate and flight log I liked the small group instruction. We started off with about 12 people in the classroom and then broke up into three groups, i.e. 4:1 ratio. I think that hang gliding isn't as easy as it looks. I totally failed the first two flights and never managed to land properly. The instructors are super enthusiastic and great about explaining what you need to work out. I believe the price is $99 for the lesson (I had a pass for a free lesson). Some guy said that there is a $5 coupon in one of those touristy books. There is a sign in the classroom that says that tipping is appreciated but not expected. Listen to them when they tell you to bring lots of water! It gets hot and tiring walking up and down the dunes. Good for kids too.

FLY THIS! Everyone and their mother goes para-sailing and swimming on a beach vacation - for some added thrill, how about something with a little more lift? For about $100 and 3 hours in the blistering sun, you can take hang gliding lessons in Jockey's Ridge State Park. The Wright Brother's were totally on to something when they flew their first airplane out here. The Atlantic winds are consistent and strong (today was about 15 mph) and the sand dunes in the state park allow for soft landings - yes, even when you inevitably crash face plant. You get about 5 flights during the lesson, which is held usually with a fairly large group. The basics are, you go through the basics and theory, you get in a harness, then run like hell off a sand dune. The instructors push the hang glider with you and run down the hill as you catch air and float down the face of the dune. Most flights will travel about 150 feet and no more than 15 feet vertical in the air. If you've done everything right, you land running and on your feet. If you're like me, you crash into another sand dune, brush the grit off your face, and yell "That was TOTALLY AWESOME!" The instructors are really patient and friendly - they'll give you lots of tips to improve for your next flight so each time gets better and better. And if you really really love it, they'll also help you get your Hang-1 Certification so you can hang glide at even more awesome places. Tips: bring LOTS of water, sunscreen, and a change of clothes for later. You WILL get sand into every crevice possible and run out of water or feel dehydrated. They offer kid's lessons too.

I visited Kitty Hawk Hang Gliding with two friends and we all had a great time! The day we went was pretty windy, but our instructors Wolf and Garrett made sure we flew safe and still had fun. Both of them kept us engaged while flying and were great at giving us tips to make each flight better than the one before. Thanks for a great first flying experience- we'll definitely be back!

Decided to go here for the afternoon when one of our party recommended it. Was skeptical but want to try new things and so glad we did!! Our two instructors were great and so enthusiastic and helpful. Those guys work so hard to make sure everyone has a great time. We had Luke and Techo. It was so pretty on the dunes too and we had a great day. I think it would be pretty miserable on a very hot day on the sand but it was great! Highly recommend doing this at least once. It is very mild and easy with the help of the instructors. The hardest part is going up the dunes, we all will sleep great tonight!!!

Bottom Line: Unique and quality toys and friendly service…read more OBX Toys and Engraving, formerly Monkey Business/Make it Personal, opened around June 2020 on the bypass/Hwy 158 at MP 13.5 in the same shopping center with Sound Feet Shoes and Radio Shack (maybe in Yellowhouse Gallery's old spot?). I enjoyed wandering around this toy store. I was looking for a family friendly game but I wasn't able to make a decision so I moved on to checking out the plethora of Melissa and Doug toys and the Create-a-Critter machine. I've always been a Melissa and Doug fan because I feel like they make quality, timeless toys. I like their wooden puzzles in particular but they offer offer lots of great toys. Anyone who likes Melissa and Doug will probably appreciate the diverse selection at OBX Toys. Create-a-Critter was new to me. Lucky for me there was a little boy making a bear so I got to witness a little bit of the creation process. Basically, Create-a-Critter is like Build-a-Bear. You pick the critter you want to make yours and then the staff help you use this big gumball-machine-looking-thing that fills the critter to make it a plush toy. Critters start at about $20 and then you can pick out outfits and such. In addition to selling toys, including hosting Create-a-Critter birthday parties, OBX Toys also has an engraving business. I saw some of their samples but didn't get a very close look. Also, I saw an advertisement that says they do gender reveal boxes which seems like a neat idea. I didn't interact with the staff while I was at the store but I saw them helping other customers and could see how kind, patient and helpful they are. I definitely plan to return the next time I am in the area.

I'm glad I did too, because my recollection of this place was a bit off. My last visit here, I thought it was packed to the rafters with candy. Nothing but candy. I'm happy to have been proved wrong. Don't worry, my main focus in here was the candy. I did browse here to see what they had for purchase outside of the candy realm. There area a lot of amazing shirts here. Shirts that you won't see elsewhere. Then there is a whole section for nothing but items for your pets. But back to the candy. Do you know, I purchased a few thing from the counter and completely forgot about them until I returned home. I mean, I didn't completely forget them, or they would have been melted messes, but I did not eat them there and held off until I got home. Customer service here was amazing, but the chocolate outshone everything else. One item I got was their big version of a peanut butter cup. This thing was solid peanut butter meltaway bliss. A ton of sweetness that was absolutely worth the wait. And to say I was slobbering as I was wolfing this down is an understatement. I also got a Reese's Pieces chocolate covered pretzel. The candies kept falling off, but were little pieces of heaven to finish afterwards. Then, the star of this show, the Peanut Butter S'more. I'm not one that seeks out marshmallow, but this thing hit. Taking a s'more and just covering it completely with chocolate is one thing, but adding in peanut butter took this to another level. Definitely worth the wait if you buy it and forget it. Like you rewarded yourself.

A friend of mine was raving about this place and I had to take him to this place because they are not able to drive themselves to it. His wife's sister needed help with trying to fix an Atari system. We tried to buy an extension part from them and they didn't have it in stock. Too many logistics to try to get it later as I would not be around. It certainly didn't hurt that the worker at the time recognized my one friend's sister from a decade or so ago. The problem was probably that the specific TV model would not properly take any additional connections even though it had certain ports. There was so much back and forth and trying to order this and that that it was quite tiring for me. Galactic made that process a bit easier. They tested the woman's Atari. Ok my last day, my one friend had me make a request to return a device with no receipt. They refunded me even though I misunderstood from my friend what the device was and why they ended up with it to begin with. As a tourist to the area, I did not know about the separate space for the game room (there is another store between their store and their game room). But it makes sense because they have a tournament or some event occurring daily. There is also a back entrance/exit from the plaza for cars that is not obvious. As a separate online observation, Whether the comic book prices are above ebay prices not, if you don't want it, don't buy it and don't complain about that. These kind of games and comics stores and ones with super nice people are harder to come by. The convenience is worth it if things are priced more. You can see an item beforehand in a store but not online and maybe the online item's quality is not as good. I don't feel that this invisible cost and the potential additional costs to maintain the store were properly factored in by that others potentially and those things are important too.
