GREAT for solo traveler. 15 minute walk to Harvard Yard. The Redline train is directly outside the yard. Healthy breakfast choices- including a great tasting oatmeal. Be prepared. My room was on the fourth level. There is NO elevator. However, staff will ask, and kindly offer assistance.

Highly praised in Time Out's guide to Boston, this Fenway brownstone house did not disappoint at all. The interior is lovingly kept in original 19 century decor and Florence has an amazing collection of dolls as well as a whole room for her shoes and hats. At 80 dollars a night it was a bargain for a truly special room that could well have been in a museum. The bathroom was hip with a great toilet, and it was conveniently close to several T stops. The real gem though was Ms Frances, who was truly charming and had quite amazing stories. She has flags for every guest to show their nationality, and of the 50 or so flags she owns she's been to pretty much every country - including Iran. An introduction to her hat collection is quite a treat too. What a life she has led! She even had a free guest pass for me for the Museum of Fine Arts.

Staff was easy to communicate with since we had plane delays for Check in and wanted to pay cash (they also leave after 11 pm and you need a code). Luckily, they gave us good info and got there around 9:30 PM so we were able to take care of business as we hoped. They are around if you need help. We didn't need room cleaning (stayed for 4 nights) because we had everything we need: toiletries, towels, etc. Big nice room (we stayed in the other building, the white one), got a contemporary one with own bathroom (rates are more reasonable here that in downtown Boston where there are still hotels w. shared bathrooms-not interested!). Room was clean, had lots of furniture to put your things on. Nice sheets, comfy bed and pillows. Fridge, microwave, tea kettle, everything you need. Cute backyard behind with vegetation and flowers. Pretty quiet, no parties, the other people staying here were decent. Many kitchens around- didn't use and cute common areas for eating, reading, hanging out. No Breakfast, they didn't bring it back since the pandemic. They offer complimentary coffee, tea and filtered water. We got pastries across at Pemberton Farms, a nice Market. Small Bathroom (happy to have it), low water pressure and the toilet seat needs to be replaced, very loose. Old buildings, you can hear creaking and people walking around (we were on ground level), but quiet overall! Safe location, the inn has character being located in an old Victorian house with its quirky decor, in a cool area with shops and restaurants around. It's very startling. The door of my room was unsealed, all heat and air could come through or even a rat. There was a huge gap between the carpet and the door. Tiny mites in the bathroom. The sheets are itchy, broken crackers served in the front lobby. The list could go on and on. They say it's a bed and breakfast, but ITS NOT. There is NO breakfast because of "COVID" which was 6 years ago. No customer service, not even to help with luggage up any stairs. Bare minimum treatment and accommodations, room rates should be no more than 100$/night for a place like this, it's comparable to a motel 6. Poor mattresses and pillows. Luxury hotels like the Hilton are now charging the same price for rooms in the heart of Boston.

Location: 5 : an easy 10 minute walk to Fenway, a 12 minute walk to the Commons. A wealth of eating options, safe secure and walkable in every direction. Room: 5 Our room was impeccable with impressive personal touches and attention to detail. Little things like Fiji water, fresh soft towels (and a black towel for makeup), full array of toiletries, and a welcoming comfortable firm bed. Despite having alllll the things to do in Boston, I was excited to get back to that room and that bed, and I slept like a log. I like a good bed when I'm traveling and I would never stay at another place if I had the option. My favorite aspect was having a separate bedroom and living area (with pull out couch). All things comparable, I've stayed in a thousand hotels, I've traveled Boston thoroughly. This will be my go-to forever. Whether traveling single, as a couple, or with my kids, I will look at 284 first and foremost. Kid-friendly: yes! I would definitely stay here with my kids (ages 9, 11, 13). Safe, fun, welcoming, and wallet-friendly. Special bonus and wow impression: each room is themed after a different artist. I love love love this concept and intrigued me a thousand times over. I ave a personal goal to stay in every room now.
