    Cool kitchen!
    Kar R.

KIVA IS A CREATIVE HEAVEN FOR THE INFLUENCERS, the WANNBE's and Even AGING BOOMERS with big ideas! Or really... anyone who has work to do and is tired of trying to get things done at over crowded coffee shops and restaurants. My husband works from home and has an amazing set up there. Unfortunately, it's home and that means there is always something pulling me away from my work and barging in with questions or comments or requests to feed the dog (ok that last one is something I keep doing because she's there staring at me..). When I come into the KIVA spaces - my mind is already on my work and settling in with others also there to "get it done" is inspiring and compelling. The place is always cool and clean and there's a lot of options about where to work. Of course... it's dynamic motion and there are more or less crowded days and times of the day, but there's always a little cafe table, a high stool space in the main, a spot outside in the yard or a space at the giant central tables with plenty of plugs and room to spread out. The WiFi is in fact "BLAZING FAST" and there's always someone around to help if you run into a technological glitch. The culture is one of work. So people are pretty focused with not a lot of "looking around" or "chit chat" going on... as a matter of fact, everyone knows the unwritten rules that unless someone is hanging in the kitchen... interrupting for random convo is considered rude - except for the staff that work there... they make you feel like you are the only reason they are there and they will literally stop what they are doing to help solve your problem. Michael and Dan always seem to be around and are full of knowledge and eager to share or just listen and often have connections or know someone to steer you to to help solve your needs. Plus... there's there's sometimes yummy treats in the kitchen (there used to be amazing soup every Tuesday and might still be I just haven't seen it out or haven't been around when it is)... and there's always coffee, iced tea, cold filtered water and an espresso machine that you can use or ask the staff to show you how....they all seem to know how to make that happen. There are more places to hang out and co-work in town now, but if you want to be around do-ers or if you are "stuck" and need some inspiration .... get a day pass and check it out! Or come for one of the talks, classes, community events or sign up to meet with a mentor who might help you find your next new thing. Check it out! Just sayin' KR

*** 3.5 stars *** I…read morewas searching for somewhere that we could work during the day on a trip to Santa Barbara and found the Sandbox. There wasn't too much information online, so I emailed back and forth with them with questions prior to our day trip to Santa Barbara, and they were fairly responsive. We were still a bit concerned how busy it would be and if it would have all the accommodations that we needed to work, but we decided to give a try. We showed up at the Sandbox just after opening on a Friday morning. The door was open and there was only one person working inside. The woman working there told us just to log in and but our day pass on our computers and that would serve as our access to the WiFi. She said she would only be there until noon so to ask her any questions before then. My bf had a bunch of meetings and needed a space to take them in so he had pre-booked the fish tank. But given that there was no one else there and there were three phone booths that were actually much better than the fish tank for taking calls, he talked to the woman up front who said that he could just email them to cancel the reservations. Also, it seemed like a free for all anyways. There was a woman working in there most of the day, including when he had reserved the time, and I did not see her reservations on the schedule. Later, when the owner initially did not want to refund him for the fish tank reservations even though the owner had been there all day and knew he did not use it. He had to go back and forth with him for a while and finally send a picture of the woman sitting in there during his reservation time before he got the credit back. Luckily, the owner finally refunded the money (phew, because I wanted to be able to return and I know that on principle there was no way we'd be going back without that refund). They had a mask policy but even the woman working there was not wearing a mask. Hmmm. All in all this was a great option for us for remote working due to its low price, location and convenience. Pros: - Great location, near downtown Santa Barbara but far enough that there's still lots of free parking nearby - Inexpensive for a day pass - 3 phone booths for private calls (but a free for all so if it's busy there's no guarantee you can get one when you need one) - Not busy so we had a table to ourselves (not sure if this will change post COVID) Cons: - Pretty basic set up, WiFi is good enough but not particularly fast - No amenities or extras (the kitchen has filtered water and maybe drip coffee) - WiFi seems to only work for one device since you need to log in to access it, but maybe you can log in on more than one device (I did not try) - A little nickle and dime-y

The sales person who signed my lease in the spring of 2024 was super hyper which made me somewhat…read moresuspicious. However, I went with my gut because the space semed right for me and signed up for a shared office for myself and one other person. From the moment I arrived, the temporary staff at the front complained non-stop about how unprofessional the office was being managed. I worked with them on various issues to keep things running smoothly. However, as time went on, it just got worse. There is no onsite oversight at the Santa Barbara location, so it's roll as you will, including the staff. I shared an office with one other person who was hardly ever there. And, I didn't ever leave any valuable equipment or items out. However, about 7 months into my lease, one day, they decided to turn our 2 person office into a 4 person office without any notification to enter the premises which is a breach to the terms per Access to the Accommodation. Reconfiguring the space is referred to a Material Breach of the Agreement meaning the physical aspect has changed without any agreement. Their rigid excuse was that this is a "Registration Desk" office, whatever that means, and that they're following "corporate office orders." Needless to say, I exited immediately as this was not what I signed up for and they effectively breached the contract. ***Word to the Wise...!!!*** They have an arbitration clause in the lease, so you have to go through the American Arbitration Association. This is a complete dead-end and they will try to either charge you big time to file, or even if they waive it, they'll side with the corporation and ask you to pay for their lawyer. It became a huge time chewer and a lot of jacking around with people who are freestyling through the process. ***If you're looking for a co-tenant office space, do not go here, it's subject to change at any time and you may find the space you rented isn't the space you get.***

Regus Has Not Returned My Retainer Months After Lease Ended -- No Response, No Accountability…read more I ended my lease with Regus on April 30, and per their stated policy, my retainer and any credits were to be returned within 30 days. It's now approaching 90 days, and despite repeated inquiries to both the local center and customer service, I've received no refund, no explanation, and no meaningful follow-up. Customer support has been non-responsive and entirely ineffective. Emails go unanswered, and when I do reach someone, I'm promised callbacks that never happen. It feels like a deliberate stonewalling. To make matters worse, the Regus center staff appears to be a revolving door of undertrained temporary employees, none of whom are empowered or equipped to resolve anything. They don't have system access, and in many cases, they don't even know what policies exist. it is not the fault of the people, but the company practices. I've filed a formal complaint with the California Attorney General -- something I'd rather not have had to do, but Regus has given me no other choice. If you're considering Regus, think twice before leaving them any deposit. Their administrative follow-through is unreliable at best and completely absent at worst.

I saw the mural wall on Yelp, and knew this was the place for me. It looks even better in person, and the story behind its creation is amazing! The owners are cultivating community and connection by creating a space where people can not only get work done, but convene and support each other. The interior design is intentional, elevated, and inspirational. I loved the design of the meeting pods, they felt more like mini offices. They also have wonderful snacks to choose from. And this is the first coworking space I've heard of that has a massage suite. Words fail to describe how epic this place is, I think it would be amazing to rent out for team meetings, retreats and other events, and don't even get me started on the podcast room. I would totally recommend renting it out if you want to create podcasts or video content in a dope space. I can't wait to return. If you have a chance to visit, please do.
