This was our first time at Skyenna, and it was an incredible experience from start to finish. Mickey took the time to share the history of Santa Barbara and the Santa Ynez Valley wine region, which made the tasting feel much more meaningful and immersive. We sampled a variety of wines, including Sauvignon Blanc, Anastasia Red Blend, Grenache, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay--each one was excellent. Mickey is also a sommelier, and his knowledge really shows. He not only educated us on the wines but also highlighted and supported other local businesses. Skyenna Wine Lounge is a must if you're visiting from out of town, or a local who has yet to visit this place. They specialize in Rhone varietals from Santa Barbara County. The best part is the location! It's a few steps away from our lovely beach. You have the option of sitting outside on the deck to take in the views, while sipping on some wine. Or plant yourself at the wine bar and enjoy the plush velvet chairs, while interacting with Mickey if you're here on a Thursday. The inside has been remodeled, and has an open airy feeling. It's a beautiful glamorous feeling when you walk in, yet it still has a casual atmosphere. Either way, you can come here dressed up for a special occasion, or in your beach attire. You will have a wonderful time tasting their amazing wines if doing a flight tasting, or just a glass if that's your preference. They also share space with a local artist, who has a great display of unique paintings. Great for photo ops while sipping wine. My favorite wine is the Malbec, and it seems to be the most popular since it's always sold out by the time I make it here. Ask to try some if it's available! On my latest visit, Mickey introduced me to the Syrah. It had flavors of red and black fruits, with hints of pepper and spice. It wasn't too peppery though. It was a nice full bodied Syrah. I loved it! I also tried the "No Label" Rosè. I'm picky when it comes to Rosè, and this one was perfect! Not too sweet, and had a nice fruity flavor. We were looking at the shops and came across this cute wine tasting room. It's a small, yet inviting place. The decor is cool and their seating areas are comfortable. The decor will spark fun conversation. The seating area is set up so you and your friends have your own little area while tasting the wine. The owner is very friendly and genuinely wants his customers to enjoy their visit. The tasting flights includes a variety of wines. There is something for every palette. My favorite was our first white wine. It was the 2021 Viognier. It was crisp, clear amd dry. Not sweet at all. I ended up buying a bottle of this one. My second favorite was the 2020 Syrah. A smooth dry wine that relaxes your mind and body. I pictured myself drinking this in front of my fireplace. Third on the list was the 2020 Grenache. I enjoyed sipping while also enjoying a fun conversation with my family. A must try when you are in Santa Barbara. read more

My wife and I strolled in here the other day just looking at different wines to try. Turns out the gentlemen behind the counter pouring the wine was actually the owner of the brand and created the wine label. Lenny has an amazing story behind his wine and it was really cool to hear his journey about how he started his own wine label. Super chill guy and knew how to talk to people very well. It was pretty cool and his wines were actually quite good. Out of the tasting rooms in Santa Barbra he defiantly had the best red wines. Located a block from State St. and the Santa Barbara Pier, you'll find a funky little Bohemian wine establishment called Skyenna Wine Lounge. We stopped in at the end of a long day of tastings, so we just shared a 5 pour mixed tasting of 2 whites ('20 Sauvignon Blanc and a '20 Viognier) and 3 reds ('20 Grenache, '19 Tempranillo, and '20 Cab. Sauvignon). Lenny, Skyenna's winemaker, poured for us and was an amazing host. We sat by ourselves in the far back of the lounge while he had a tasting bar full of people at the other end of the building. That didn't stop him from spending plenty of time with us discussing his wines and our interests. The wines we tasted were light to medium bodied and quite flavorful. If you're hungry or just want to create your own food/wine pairing experience, you can order food from the neighboring Italian restaurant, Lucky Penny. Definitely worth your time to stop in and experience Skyenna's cool vibe atmosphere and Lenny's wines. read more

Had a fantastic tasting last night at this hidden gem of a tasting room in the funk zone. This is one of my new favorite spots for sure and I will definitely be adding it to my recommendation list. Looking at their wine club options I may even be a new member soon. The music they were playing the ambience and art was all awesome. It had an almost speakeasy vibe heading upstairs off of an unassuming alley. The bar had a couple spots where you could look out to the ocean and the windows letting in the fresh ocean breeze. What really made everyone's experience here fantastic was the awesome bartender Mickey! Very knowledgeable and friendly while also remaining professional. Skyenna Wine Lounge recently renovated their space with large open ceilings and trendy décor making it for a welcoming and inviting atmosphere - bonus for the chandelier. It's the perfect place to relax and enjoy a glass of wine with friends. I came last week for "Mickey Thursdays" where Mickey, who is working towards his sommelier certification, leads guests through a tasting of Skyenna wines. He provided interesting insights about the wine-making process and the unique characteristics of each wine we tasted (he also taught us a tip on how to open a bottle of wine perfectly, ask him next time you go in!). He was also very friendly and personable, making the experience even more enjoyable. As for the wines themselves, I was impressed with the quality and variety on offer. The Pinot Noir and Chardonnay were both outstanding, and the Mourvedre was also a standout for me. The winery specializes in Rhone varietals and I appreciate that they make good wines that you would typically only find used as blending grapes (ex. Mourvedre and Viognier) Overall, I would highly recommend a visit to Skyenna Winery. The renovated space is lovely, the wines are excellent, and the experience of having Mickey guide you through the tasting is a special treat. read more

He was so knowledgeable not only about the wines from SKYENNA but from all the wines and winemakers in Santa Barbara and the region. The wines there were all beautiful from the start; our favorite's being the Grenache Blanc and the GSM - Anastasia. We visited Skyenna on Saturday afternoon at about 5pm. The crowd was in and out -- sometimes busy and the next moment not. It is a great space, with plenty of room to move around. The guy who runs the place (sorry, I forget his name even though we had a great conversation with him) is the winemaker and told us the story about the name of his winery along with lots of other fun tidbits. It seemed he genuinely cared about his wine and label and took the time to really get to know us. His wine tasting was $25 for 5 tastings. Great place, great people, great fun! Ran across this wine bar/tasting room while visiting for a lacrosse conference. Looked at all the different wine places and decided Skyenna had the styles of wine I liked. Walked by Margerum tasting room bit although it was a nice sit down area the wines didn't appeal to me. Started tasting the featured wines and absolutely loved everyone of them. Spent some time talking to the wine maker Lenny and learned a lot about his wines and his journey from the East Coast to Santa Barbara. I need up buying 3 out of 5 of the wines on the tasting menu. His wine has similar style to Bellante Family Winery (BFW) . Since I'm from Orange County I frequent BFW tasting room. However, I will definitely be returning any time I'm in town. read more

This review is to say the following: We didn't try any wine here. They do not have food here. The food menu is for show. They bring the food in from somewhere else. We stayed for about 3 minutes. The guy working there, as many others have mentioned, seems charismatic and sharp. He had the sense to observe and sum us up in 30 seconds and recommend a different location that would fit our family of four better (Margerum) than Skyenna. It would have been nice to stick around and try the wine, but this just isn't a place for families. The demographic target is for wine drinkers period. No food, no family. It's all about the wine. Next time, when my kids aren't with me, maybe.. So don't take your kids here. And go when you aren't hungry. read more

Skyenna Wine Lounge is such a wonderful wine treasure. From a first glance, you wouldn't even know it were there! Skyenna is hidden off Helena Street--which is more of an alley--amidst surfing and clothing shops. The nondescript, narrow door leads you up stairs that take you up to the tasting room itself. Inside is exactly what I would expect from places within the Funk Zone: Artsy, hip and, well, funky! Surf boards, meets faux taxidermy, meets motorcycles. Words can't do it justice. Take a peek out one of the small windows with a peek of Stearn's Wharf and the palm tree lined West Beach. I tend to frequent Skyenna on Thursday evenings when Mickey is working. What a hysterical, fun and knowledgeable local Santa Barbarian! He makes the best recommendations on where to dine in town and can carry on a conversation with just about anyone. Skyenna (and the owner/winemaker Lenny) specialize in Rhone varietals sourced from the Santa Ynez Valley. My personal favorite varietals of theirs are the lightest (refreshing, crisp Sauvignon Blanc) and the boldest (peppery, meaty Mourvedre). The wines are delicious and well worth splurging on a bottle. The owner is a very friendly host and willing to help with suggestions, local recommendations etc. they have really good outdoor seating if you are looking to enjoy some ocean breeze and people watching. The lounge upstairs is a cozy spot and a refuge from the heat - the art filled walls make for good conversation.
