I stopped here early in the morning before a day of business meetings in Ozark, Alabama and found this the perfect setting to walk and cleanse my soul and mind in preparation for the day. To walk through these woods and to stare out upon the lake, it is easy to forget that civilization is just up the road a ways, that you are mere minutes from the hustle and bustle if everyday life. Every time that I am up in Ozark, I try to find my way here. This park is one of the places that lingers within your soul long after you leave and makes you appreciate the sheer majesty of nature and of the gift of life.

This collection of trails is another prime example of humans and nature working together to create…read moresomething nice. The trails are fairly well maintained and marked. It is fairly flat, but has a few small bumps and hills. On my visits it has been quiet and calm. I saw some fish, a turtle, frogs, and a range of birds and squirrels. I really enjoyed it. I also noticed just a small amount of trash, which is still too much in a place this natural. There is a small pump track for bmx and mountain bikes. They also have a small bike station to work on your bike if you need to including a hand air pump. That is a huge plus! The parking lot is unclear and dirt. I just pulled to the end and out of the way. There are other access points, but I've not been to them yet. I would definitely recommend this park if you are in the Dothan area.

Solomon Park is a great neighborhood park in the area that I grew up. When I was very young, there…read morewas not much more than open space and picnic tables. There were a few playground items. But overall it was a great place to take the family on a nice day for a picnic and to toss around a football or frisbee. But once I was a little older, some of the retirees in the neighborhood decided to construct an amazing playground with several elements of fun for neighborhood kids. But I recently found out and saw that all of that playground equipment was not maintained and eventually had to be removed. A definite fail by the city. I did learn recently that some improvements were made last year, but I have yet to see them. From what I understand, the only playground equipment is a swing set. This park is not big enough to benefit from wide sidewalks as a walking park. It should be a place for neighborhood families to go and enjoy the outdoors. They have basically turned the park back into a nicer version of what it was from my early childhood and downgrade of what it was in my pre-teen days. Hopefully continued improvements will make this park what it should be.

Yes, the bridge is locked off from all foot traffic by iron gates. I'm guessing that this was done to prevent the neer-do-wells from filling the interior with graffiti, something I've seen done to other covered bridges. There is access to the bridge from both sides of the creek, but the far side has better parking and even a few picnic benches. The view from there is way better too.
