There is also a variety of African jewelry and fun trinkets available for purchase as well. As soon as you walk through the door, there is the delicious smell of freshly baked cookies. Each cookie is pretty large and is individually wrapped. Best of all, they're reasonably priced! Okay, so as a tourist, this place popped up on my radar because of an episode of 'Little America' (The Baker) on Apple TV. It's a series of dramatized immigrant stories and when I watched this episode, I saw that the founder had a shop in Louisville. Since I was visiting Louisville soon, I put this place on my list and felt like I just had to visit since I love the immigrant stories from the show. Kizito is a longstanding local business and its owner is much recognized and loved by the locals. Beyond the physical store, their cookies are located at various coffee shops and various art fairs. Most recently we grabbed cookies while at the Kentucky State Fair. Snickerdoodle will always be my favorite. I don't crave the cookies as much as I used to. The primary reason they are easier to resist is that they are dryer and perhaps not as fresh due to the business growth. I miss the older experience of a softer, fresher cookie that doesn't crumble. As many times as my friend and I had eaten at Imps (aka Impellizzeri's) across the street, it was finally time to pay a visit here. My friend had been here before but, I hadn't. Even though we were full from Imps, I still wanted to get a Kizito Cookie and what a perfect day to go on small business Saturday. So as we proceeded to walk over, going in we are the only customers in the store, it is smaller than what I expected. It's mostly a bakery with some Hand made African craft items. My friend and I spent a little time in there while speaking to Ms. Kizito herself and apparently knew her and her son personally. I was thinking of which cookie I wanted and the decision wasn't an easy one either. I went with the chocolate chip and my friend went with black and white. Cookies are reasonably priced here for the size. Will definitely be back, Ms. Kizito and her other employee were warm and welcoming. I used to come to this store a lot when I was younger. My sisters and my mom and I enjoyed buying cookies and buying the trinkets! Now, you can buy her cookies all over! I've seen them at Qdoba and my mom said they sell them at Bats games. I'm pretty sure I've seen her cookies in Ohio as well. It's always warm in the store! The whole room is basically the kitchen and store! The prices aren't bad at all for the cookies. I got a chance to try these cookies at Worldfest and I'm so glad I did! The cookies are huge and so delicious. The chocolate chip with pecans was my favorite. The ultimate oatmeal is good and includes nuts, raisins and coconut. The pumpkin raisin is very soft and tasty, just in time for Fall and the original chocolate chip was great of course. There are several other varieties of treats and based on these 4, I highly recommend. The problem is that the ingredients of the cookie pop up in most of the mainstream products consumers buy today. For instance, one ingredient, propylene glycol, is used as a deicer and is used to preserve. I've bought these cookies all over town since I was in high school (about 20 years ago - wow, that long?) and I've never been more jealous than when I watched some high schoolers get off at their bus stop right out front. I love Kizito Cookies! I haven't met one that I don't like yet, and I highly doubt it will ever happen. My favorite flavor is the Pumpkin Chocolate Chip; however, I will also gladly devour the Lucky in Kentucky (or any other flavor). You can usually find Kizito Cookies at shops and events around town, including Heine Brothers, Walgreens, Paul's Fruit Market, St. James Court Art Show, and Louisville Slugger baseball games, just to name a few. Kizito Cookies also makes brownies (which I love!) and several other products I haven't had the chance to try, like muffins, granola, and biscotti. Even though I haven't tried everything, I'm sure it's all amazing just based on how great the cookies are. The purpose of my visit was to purchase a cookie and of course, an opportunity to explore the African crafts. The store is a good size. There is PLENTY of crafts to browse through and purchase. I enjoy jewelry so there was my enjoyment. There are a lot of beautiful earrings, bracelets, necklaces, purses, cross-body pouches, artifacts, etc. I bought two pairs of earrings and I love them! I'm not sure what material they're made from, but I don't doubt it being from African. I also bought a key chain that is colorful and vibrant, like the beautiful African culture! I bought the Lucky in Kentucky cookie that consisted of chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, and large pecans. The cookie itself was large and really, really, really, really delicious. I'm so glad I stopped by the store. I bought a Kizito Cookie from a vendor a few weeks back and I wasn't really impressed. The cookie was good, but not over the moon. But....the cookie I bought at the store was incredibly scrumptious (aka over the moon!). The cookie was greatly flavored with all the ingredients and tasted light and very fresh at the same time. This is their bakery location where the baking is done everyday. It smells delicious in there! The store also sells African art and imports which are perfect when you are looking for a unique gift item. This might seem like a strange combination, but it is because the owner, Elizabeth Kizito, is originally from Uganda and she still has family there. They are best known for their fresh baked cookies, mufins, and brownies. The cookies come in 12, or more, different flavors, so there is something for everyone. I like the oatmeal raisin.
