Jason then helped her focus on areas that could improve and the second time she took the test she again improved dramatically. She has now received significant scholarship offers from multiple universities. Jason has also helped her think about different schools and has been an advisor on the process including proofread her essays and providing suggestions on how to approach the essays. He has been invaluable in assisting with the college admissions process. We highly recommend Mackler Associates. Ken Buren

We are glad we found Jason Marks and Mackler Associates. Jason helped our daughter prepare for two ACT tests. Thanks to his exceptional training and support, and our daughter's commitment to improve her scores, she was accepted into the summer academy for both institutions! I will be contacting Varsity Headquarters if this is not resolved.. $500!!!! 9/27-- I confirmed order that we would have a tutor 2-3 xs a week for my son who was taking a senior level college course - Differential Equations and that he needed intense tutoring as we need to decide by 10/27 whether he needs to withdraw from the class. They confirmed that we would have someone for that amount of time. That the matching process would take 48-72 hours 9/30 - Received email that a match was underway for following 4 available time slots "Your request for a Differential Equations tutor has been received and our team is looking for the best tutor who can meet with xxx during their provided availability: Monday 3:30pm - 5:00pm EDT Wednesday 3:30pm - 5:00pm EDT 6:00pm - 7:30pm EDT Thursday 3:30pm - 5:00pm EDT 10/1 - Received notification that a session was scheduled for 10/3 10/3 - First tutor session at 4PM and only session for that week 10/3 - Spoke with my son after the session and he advised that it was a poor session and the tutor was providing the answers rather than working out the solution with my son. 10/4 - I called Varsity Tutors and requested Cancellation as they did not have any other tutor available or him. I received an email at 12:11 pm advising "We have processed your cancellation request and it will be deactivated on 10/27" and that "Membership includes use of 1:1 tutoring, group classes, homework helper and practice quizzes" Nothing that would cover Differential Equations - a 4th year college class. 10/8 - Received email that the next tutoring session would be 10/10 (4 days after cancelling). 10/9 - Received email from the tutor requesting to change sessions. Even though this was cancelled, you can clearly see below that the tutor could not meet my son's schedule listed above at 9/30 "Hi xxx , Please could we move our Thursday meetings, 10/17, to 6:30pm est same day or Friday, 10/18, at 8pm est, recurring every week? I have a conflicting schedule at our current (3pm est) time starting next Thursday, every Thursday. Please let me know. My apologies for any inconvenience. Thanks, xxx " 10/14 - Received another email that the next tutor session was scheduled for October 16 at 9:00 PM let me repeat NINE PM! This after getting an email to move it to 10/17 or 10/18! 10/15 - AT 9:41 AM I sent an email to Varsity Tutors regarding status of cancellation 10/15 - AT 10:24 AM I received a call from "Natasha" trying to upsell me. I explained to her it is too late. We needed a tutor 2-3 times a week, they found one person, as no other responded that could meet with my son 1x per week and it is now October 15 and I received NO CALL for 11 days. Varsity Tutors failed to meet their obligation of having a 2-3 times per week so that we can determine if my son needs to withdraw or carry on in this class. The tutor met with him one time and then scheduled only two additional sessions up till 10/17, during which time, he requested my son change his schedule to meet his schedule and a 9PM tutor session as well! I will continue to fight this and if not, they will be hearing from my lawyer.

I think the system from Mathnasium is extremely good. My son attended Mathnasium in California for…read morea few years, and then we continued in St Louis. Unfortunately, the centers in St Louis are incredibly badly operated with almost no concern for the students or parents, in sharp contrast with my prior experiences and I wish the brand did a quality control of their franchises. I finally decided that we would quit after repeated issues of quality and normal standards of care, which is very bad for us because we loved the system. I will share below a subset of problems we had to deal with. Over the few years we attended the Ladue center, because their policy is to severely underpay their staff, almost all of the good instructors started leaving, replaced by nice but not nearly as motivated as the task would require. The center has kept telling us for many years that they are 'trying to hire' but obviously what they are ready to offer is completely insufficient for what a good tutor should earn. For $299 per month, we would hope that tutor would earn a decent compensation for tutoring a group of student but this is not the case. In fact, we had some great tutors when we joined and they all left because, as is now becoming all too common in other businesses, the center is offering unsustainable conditions that are only viable as a side gig. Because of this, we noticed that the center does not have the bandwidth to correctly track progress across grades, with severe missing topics that we discovered were not done well in the school assessments or tests. The reason for this is that the staff has almost no time to review what progress has been made in a manner that is customized to where a student is. I was appalled to see our son was not doing better than many students, and all students with other tutors did much, much better. The system works, but not if it's administered in a standardized manner to all but tutors who come and go. To add to these issues, but related, the center has implemented a taxing reservation system where appointments have to be reserved months in advance to have a decent spot. They close on one day of the week plus one day of the week-end, removing two more days which would be ideal for families and forcing kids to do their session after school. It is not unusual that one has to pick up a 6:30pm session. If we call them to reschedule, they will not answer the phone and send to an answering service that has to call back. The center main director Caitlin has no interest in resolving anything and, when confronted with repeated problems, just kept saying that she was sorry we felt this way and this was their policy, and that it was normal to make appointments. Certainly it is the prerogative of a business to manage their policies in any way they see fit, but this is irrelevant to the point I am raising that this business is only interested in making profits without any concern about the issues of parents and kids, in order to reduce quality to save on operating expenses. But I do not want to suggest any issue due to her, as I suspect she is like other employees being given no reasonable resources by the franchise owners to do a good job to resolve the issues that she uncovers. I called the main center and I hope there can be more quality control of the franchises, as I am not sure this is not the right image for the brand. In summary, I remain a great fan of Mathnasium, but unfortunately, if you would like good quality tutoring here in St Louis, a tutor will be more effective. I shared my concerns with other parents here in the area, and found that most of them did know about Mathnasium and dropped out for similar related reasons.

Mathnasium is great because it is a low stress environment where the kids can work one on one with the tutors in an upbeat environment.
