Small grocery store in downtown Tawas that has all the basic household staples with an advertised specialty in meats and Jerkeys. I was looking for a steak to throw on the grill and wanted to give this business a try as there are only a handful of markets on this side of the state that specialize in meats. They had all the meats you would expect too see where I settled on a Porterhouse steak based on 1). how the steak looked and 2) price which was very reasonable especially in light of todays inflated meat prices at $12.99 a lb . Upon getting the steak home I was quite pleased with the end product. The meat had an appropriate amount of fat for a Porterhouse, was very tender and just as importantly was very flavorful where the meat was definately a cut above the other grocery stores in the area and on a par with Neiman's which has tad higher prices in my opinion. Based on my initial experience I will definately consider this market in the future where I will be leaning towards a nice Ribeye the next time round. People are friendly and the location just a block off of US23 is very convenient and hard to \beat considering its close proximity to other key business in the area to include Walmarts, coffee shops and assorted restaurants. Stopped in to check out this 120 year old store and meat shop. Super clean! Staff was helpful and friendly. Sub sandwich and the regular sandwich was delicious. We read about the salami sticks and had to try. Delicious! Definitely will make this a stop each time we are in East Tawas. read more

One stop shopping for all your needs in East Tawas, MI. Open since 1900, meat is their specialty. This is such an awesome market. Smoked sausage, full line of meats and seafood, deli counter, ready made subs/sandwiches and tons of deli salads. They have 18 different kinds of fresh made jerky and over 8 kinds of hunter sausage/salami sticks. They do meat processing right on site, and during hurting season they process deer and wild game too. Don't forget to get their smoked fish and fish dip- its awesome!! They offer beer, wine, liquor and lottery. If you're vacationing in Tawas or visiting the many beaches- this is the place to come! We did! Their subs and salads were delicious and perfect while enjoying the sun and fun at the beach. Of course this lady got her adult drink needs here too. Don't forget to get some famous Flint chili. I have to admit, it was the first time I ever tried this rivalry of National Coney chili and I really enjoyed it. Which one is better?- that's a tough call! Get some yourself, and you decide. You can literally walk here from East Tawas beach- it's that close. I was blown away by their extremely fair prices, considering it's a touristy town and gets very busy during the summer. It's a close knit business- mostly family members or employees who have worked there for many years. They were all extremely welcoming, friendly and appreciative of your business. "Meat is their specialty" says the sign on the outside of the building. I can vouch that statement is 100% true. They sell other things like beer and regular food items but the main attraction of this tiny store is their meats. My family has been going here for years. Whenever walking down Newman Street we can't pass without getting some jerky. They sell about 15 different kinds and they're all great. Not only do they make beef type jerky but they also make buffalo and venison jerky as well. I tend to like the sweeter flavors such as the BBQ and teriyaki flavors. So if you've never been, don't be a jerk, and try some jerky. read more

This little store kind of reminds me of my fathers store many years ago... but, he never had smoked salmon like these guys do!! The smoke salmon is award-winning! I guarantee it! We visited Tawas city just to go to Klenow's which is in East Tawas. Good tasting BBQ salami sticks too. I wish I had a bigger cooler to take more home. read more

Best cuts of meat in town. Best jerky north of Pinconning. I love the homemade brats, the salami sticks, the marinated chicken ...well everything they make in the butcher area is great. I would not shop there for anything else. Super high prices on regular grocery items. 5$ for a bag of doritos? Seriously? This is a great little market for anybody even Passing through East Tawas. With a great meat counter at good prices.

Fresh Choice Angus Beef, Amish chickens, pork, buffalo meat, sliced luncheon meats, cheese, etc. at reasonable prices. But, wish they'd come into the 21st century and get a separate raw meat case (with a separate attendant) away from their cheeses and sliced cold cuts. They claim that they change their gloves in between but, at least once I saw that not done. There is so much food-borne illness out there these days that it just makes common sense to separate the two! read more

The meat counter has a huge variety of specialty products that are made right within the store, and friendly knowledgeable service is always available. I go here at least twice a week!!
