We adored our Spinach & 4 Cheese Croissants! With it being lightly toasted to perfection, the layers of crispy outside could be peeled apart from the soft inside. Just enough spinach and cheese to not overpower the butteriness of the croissant. Will definitely look for the savory croissant in the future. The Cream & Currant Scone was not too sweet while still being a mix of dense and delicate [in the best way]. Smaller interior but designed in a welcoming way so we were able to seat ourselves comfortably. Cool that you can watch the people making bread and baked goods through the window while ordering & sitting. Excited to try more baked goodness here. read more

You MUST try the maple pull apart bread!!!! We originally purchased this bakery delight at Dakin Farm on Rt 7, once it was gone we immediately searched for more. That's when we were directed to Klinger's South Burlington. The bakery case is filled with amazing pastries all of which I have no doubt are wonderful. Mini France! This place is tucked away but simply so adorable inside you can't pass it up. It's very small but has an amazing bread, pastry, and dessert selection and appears to have an extensive drink menu as well. I visit Klinger's at least twice a week but I will not buy items from there again. When I arrive, I order my items and watch bread production. This morning around 7:36 am, I ordered and was standing near the window. They were having a conversation about me, I know this because the guy on the left of the table leaned over to look at me. Maybe they have never seen an African-African, I felt uncomfortable so I moved from the window and waited on my breakfast sandwich. My suggestion is if you are a African-American, DO NOT shop there or buy their products in the markets. Grown men should not be leaning over and talking about customers. read more

Preordered 2 dozen dinner rolls A WEEK before thanksgiving, was told that it would cost $7.00 and change. I reiterated over the phone that it was less than $8.00 for two dozen rolls and was assured that that was correct. Went in to pick them up today (Wednesday before thanksgiving) and they only made up 1 dozen dinner rolls. There were no other rolls to be sold, so essentially that was it. A whole family gets to share 12 dinner rolls now for thanksgiving (tell the guests to only take a quarter when they fill their plates up) ... When told about their mistake, they didn't know what to do expect offer a loaf of some kind of bread (not what anyone ordered obviously, seeing as they had it left over). If you want only half of what you ordered, go right ahead and order from here. You can order a year in advance and it'll still be wrong. If you are going to take orders for people for holidays or for catering, maybe pay attention to that. Haven't yet tasted any rolls (no way to do it without depleting the entire order now) so my review is based solely off of ordering ahead, picking up, and being incredibly disappointed. read more

Stopped by this week to pick up a preordered cake. It wasn't ready when we arrived so we had some sandwiches while we waited, which were very good. I didn't realize they also offered soup, which some other patrons ordered and which also looked delicious. We got the chocolate mousse cake, which ended up really being more of a dense chocolate icing instead of mousse - very heavy. Next time we'll try a traditional layer cake. Really really really want to give more stars. Food was excellent....but we had a situation where we got something and it had a bug. We very discreetly brought it to the attention of the person working. It didn't seem to surprise or concern and not apologetic at all. I mean... we still ate there but they didn't even throw it out. Amazing bakery! Their freshly baked breads are always incredible, baked daily in their massive ovens that an employee told me they had imported from Europe (pretty sure I remember that correctly). Exquisite desserts as well, with their tiramisu being a personal favorite. They also have pre-made pies you can buy and bake at home, along with dough for dinner rolls and breads. Came here right before closing, so most of their stuff was sold out- always a good sign their stuffs good. We ended up getting the peanut butter cookie which comes with chocolate chips and some smaller pastries. The price point isn't too bad for a bakery, and everything was good. The chocolate chip cookie is flaky and crispy, I'm more of a soft chewy type of lover. So the cookie wasn't my jam, but my spouse liked it. The croissants were definitely up my alley and strongly suggest them. Super flaky and tender. Hit the spot for my carb cravings. read more

If you can't get to Mirabelle, Klinger is a very close second...Klinger's croissants and morning pastries surpass Mirabelle...even Klinger's baguettes are better...their sandwiches are very good. For really fancy pastry,for special occasions I go to Mirabelle . However I consider myself lucky to live in the South End...and be close to Klinger. read more

I love Klinger's! It's a cute little cafe in an odd location with an unappealing name, but it is delicious. It's mostly a bread bakery, and if you're having a coffee and sweet with friends you can sit in the restaurant and watch them bake bread in giant hearths through a giant glass window. It's a neat process actually. I've never had sandwiches there, but they all look good, and the bread is great so I'm sure they are fine. I usually go for a snack and coffee. The coffee is pretty good, but most places in Vermont have decent coffee it seems, even the gas stations. The pastries are delicious, but my favorite is the tiramisu cup. It's delicious. It's not a bad price and if you're with a friend it's large enough to share! The staff has always been friendly too. My only complaint is the location is a bit strange but it's not too bad. read more

Honestly it's just amazing. The sourdough is awesome and so are the baguettes. Italian/French breads are SO good. I haven't really sampled the desserts but I'm betting they're great, too. I love Klinger's food and will continue to go there to support such a great local business but I did notice that the chicken salad with apples was 100 times better on Mon. 9/14 than it was on 9/22. 89/14; was delicious and creamy and there was more on the sandwich. As a regular of Klingers, I appreciate their options in a fairly scant area for cafes. Starbucks is the main rival a few blocks down but Klingers has charm and is a peaceful alternative to the hussle and energy of SBs. Their wine selection is well curated; cakes and bread excellent; their pastries are a little hit and miss. Some things they get right but their muffins are lacking and almond croissant is too heavy - not light as it should be. The staff are fine and could be a little friendlier but I appreciate the turnover is probably quite high. My only other qualm would be the lack of self-serve coffee area to help when it's busy, so it does not tie up a staff member getting coffee unless making a specialty coffee. They should trust us to pour one ourselves! The Trompe L'oeil mural on the walls is also a nice touch to give it some character. A good place to meet, do some reading, work and the pastries are half-price after 4pm. read more

I do special orders for pies and cakes at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and I have no complaints about that part of the business. I do not eat there anymore, as the floor is dirty and the tables are few. There is one group of women who regularly congregate there, and inconsiderately take all the chairs from all the tables so they can chat at length. The food is mediocre, and they do not clean the grille often, as I have tasted rancid cooking oil on my sandwiches. read more

You shouldn't call your butter rolls croissants as you are fully aware you don't make them correctly, the pull apart always seem stale, the breads normally a day old at the supermarkets, the service at the "Cafe" is horrible and anytime you order something and go to pick it up they've messed it up and don't have something you ordered and they'll tell you it wasn't on the order, basically a glorified weak bread company read more

A local friend told us to stop in on way out of town. Can you say quaint, comfy, amazing breakfast sandwiches on freshly made croissants with excellent coffee! The workers on staff this day were sweet and pleasant. I am totally going back as I just live in Berlin. I would take a day trip to just come here! Went here this morning to pick up my wedding cake and I am thoroughly impressed! The cake was more than a reasonable price and it looks amazing! This bakery is to die for! Do NOT go in if you are on a diet! The smells are a wonderful blend of breads and pastries, and the kitchen is in full display behind glass walls. Baguettes are very good at a reasonable price of $2.50. There are alwys little taste samples, today a delish plate of coffee-sticky buns. Went with my friend to Klinger's for a quick breakfast before heading to Stowe. Coffee was a bit on the bitter side but their bacon, egg and cheese on focaccia was incredible. The bacon was crispy and the bread was warm and fresh. The shop is cute and the service seemed friendly and warm. I love how you can see in to the bakery and watch the bakers making the bread and other baked goods. I would definitely stop back by for breakfast when I'm in the area. read more

Went in today to meet someone- asked for the tuna and a cup of coffee- the young lady, unfriendly, too the sandwich out of a drawer- slapped it on the counter and said- $10.00 (and some change)....no plate no smile, no nothing.....dirty table, dirty counters and no cream, half and half or much else.....when i brought it to my guest, she had the soup- mentioned it was salt and luke warm. Another young lady said "we don't make it here, some guy does, brings it in and that's the way he makes it".....and the tuna? well...lettuce, tom and capers- the tuna- if there, was less than a table spoon....thank you- but never again. read more

The bread is undoubtedly good, but I would never eat it again. I worked there years back and night staff would routinely cut themselves on the bread while packaging it(the crusts are pretty sharp) and not put gloves on. Bread would also get dropped and still get put in shipments or to the bakery. The night staff was a walking OSHA violation full of ex cons and kids who had no idea what they were doing. read more
