Make sure you book our trip, whether it is regular fair or for the parlor car ASAP as a quickly fill up.

We booked directly through the railway's website and paid $155 USD per person. Guests who book through cruise ships can pay around $240 USD per person, which is even more difficult to justify. For a 2.5-hour train ride at this price, I expected a more premium experience. The scenery alone is wonderful, but beyond that there isn't much included. It would be nice if they added thoughtful touches like a complimentary mimosa, local pastries or desserts, or other small amenities that would make the experience feel more luxurious and memorable. I want to be clear--I'm not complaining about the views. They are stunning and definitely worth seeing. I just don't feel that the overall experience matches the premium price. If the ticket were more reasonably priced, or if more value were included, I would happily rate it 4 or even 5 stars.

She managed to weave the historical tale of Skagway with the town of today seamlessly, all while driving the antique streetcar, and chatting us up as if she was our friend or some folksy Hal Holbrook. At one point, she sang her version of Home on the Range while backing up the trolley car and parking it. I've never seen anyone perform any better than she did that morning. Seriously. They definitely kept us entertained during the various segments of our excursion. The train ride is a must when you are in Skagway. The views are incredible, indescribable, breathtaking! We learned much about the history of the areas we drove through on both the bus and train. We took so many photos and videos! The best part of our trip was that we were allowed to stand on the platform during nearly the entire train ride. We were in the caboose so nothing was behind us besides the incredible scenery. The museum is run by the National Park Service and does a great job of bringing the history to life. I especially enjoyed the film explaining how the discovery unfolded and how it transformed the region almost overnight. It's incredible to imagine the hardship people went through to get there in search of gold. Even Jack London made it up to the Klondike when he was only 20 years old, which adds another interesting layer to the story. Overall, a very well-presented and informative experience that's definitely worth a visit -- It's free.

And it said each miner had to have 2,000 pounds of food, so they had to make lots of trips up and back to take all that food up the trail.

He was quick and efficient in taking photos for everyone on the bus at each of the stops. We were a bit cautious of his driving. I understand he is quite familiar with this drive, but given the weather and often poor visibility we had on the drive, and the size of the bus, he seemed to be driving a bit fast, even passing other buses on the drive. Our tour stopped at the Yukon sign where we actually had some clear skies we could see the mountains in the background. On our return, we stopped at a rural dog sled training camp. We visited the puppies and got to play with them. We were here for almost 2 hours. It felt like our time here was never ending. It would've been nice if the owner came over to say "hi" and talk a bit about dog sledding and the competitions she competes in. Some in our tour group paid extra to take a dog sled ride which was basically the dogs hooked up to a large golf cart with everyone piled into the cart. Not impressive, glad we didn't do it. But we had to wait around for those that did pay for that extra feature to get their ride so we were there for almost 2 hours. It felt like our time here was never ending. To sum up our tour, we spent 4 hours in a bus driving through the Yukon range and seeing the puppies. Not sure if we would do this again if we return.

While we were on our Alaskan Cruise, we took an excursions in Skagway. We met with our tour guide…read morenear the dock, and took a quick boat ride across the Lynn Canal to the other side. The Lodge was located right off the small dock. They had a quite spacious land around the lodge, and even thought it was grey and misty out, we could still see across the water and a few cruise ships. As soon as we entered the lodge, it was so warm and welcoming, it was great! They offered mimosa, and of course, we didn't say no. They also had other drinks like Alaskan Beer, which my hubby also had in addition to the mimosa. After a nice mimosa, the "naturalist" staff took us for a quick walk outside. Then, we followed the guide and the wooden signs towards the waterfall. It was not very far, and we could hear the gushing water from nearby distance. Once we arrived at the Waterfall Grotto, it was so powerful and strong, it reminded me of a Seinfeld Show when George (a.k.a. Marine Biologist) said "The sea was angry that day my friends"...LOL. Even our guide was amazed at its powerful flow, he said that it is normally more calm, but with the rain, it has become a monster. After a nice little walk to the waterfall, we went on a rainforest hike. The guide took us to the top of the hill, we got to see another waterfall, also powerful and beautiful. The view from up here was really nice, nothing but nature. After the hike, we returned to the lodge, and it was time for Dungeness crab and shrimp boil! The staff had it all cooked up in one pot, and was just getting them onto a HUGE bowl. It was oh-so-good-for-your-soul food! Then, it was time for dessert. They had big marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate, calling out for S'more lovers, and decadent double chocolate brownies. We learned a lot about the rich history about Burro Creek, and the beautiful nature surrounding the area. We took in lots of fresh air and delicious food, and had loads of fun! This was THE best excursion that we took during our Alaskan Cruise.
