I have been a patient here for about a year and a half and I don't have a single negative thing to say about this clinic and the staff. I have never met a doctor who truly *only cares about my well-being. Mental health care can be complicated so I am incredibly grateful that Dr. Bindal saw red flags in my behavior before I did so we addressed them in time. TMS changed my life, I went from living with OCD, major depression, and anxiety (not spending longer than 5 minutes without having compulsions) to I can now go to sleep in peace and live my life. I feel a lot better and I believe Dr. Bindal literally saved my life. This place is wonderful. The staff is so great too and they always call me back immediately for whatever I need, including refills. And yes, Dr. Bindal might sometimes be a little late to call BUT it's understandable because he takes his time with patients. Love them. read more

Why am I having to do the job of the psychiatrist and remind them to refill my prescription since CVS can't get in contact with them? Then they only give me a refill of 10 days after saying the nearest appointment with my doctor is in a month. Especially concerning a sensitive medication that cannot be stopped and started randomly. Update to previous review: I've been under Dr. Bindal's care since 2019, as my past 5-star reviews reflect. I've seen the office grow a lot, and while I deeply respect Dr. Bindal as a person, the expansion seems to have sacrificed the personalized care that brought me here. Last week, I had a horrific experience with an assistant (whose name I didn't catch) that left me feeling accused of being a drug seeker. This was deeply upsetting--especially since I can provide prescription records proving otherwise. I was especially concerned because one of the medications in question is a mood stabilizer/antiseizure agent. Going without it could cause dangerous rebound seizures due to changes in my brain's sodium and calcium channels. Despite knowing I was leaving for Portugal the next day, the office never called me back to resolve the issue. I ended up texting them a few days later to inform them I was discharging from their care. No one even asked why. I wish providers better understood the reality of living with complex mental health and sleep issues. I was kidnapped at birth and survived abuse, including multiple instances of suffocation--which makes using CPAP unbearable for me despite multiple mask attempts. I'm also a pharmacist, and I just want to say to anyone reading this: if you have sleep issues, you are not a bad person. Hugs to you. While I truly like Dr. Bindal, the office has grown too large for individualized care and has failed to provide the support patients deserve--especially when life-threatening situations are at stake. read more

I was going here for over a year and all three of the psychiatrists I've seen here were terrible. I kept trying out their psychiatrists since it was one of the few available places that took my insurance. Donna Grandi was rude and condescending after appearing nice for one session. She called me hours late for an appointment and was upset I didn't have time to speak with her since I was already at a dentist appointment. She demanded that I spoke to her when I said I didn't have the time especially since she was so late anyways. I also didn't have a good experience with Jerry Bobo. When I told him my suspicions of having adhd he didn't even give me a test and just told me to "play chess". I was diagnosed with adhd months later by a psychiatrist that actually tested me for adhd instead of that nonsense that dr. Bobo was telling me. I saw Madalyn Cosensci for a year. She was friendly but I was prescribed multiple anti-depressants and anxiety medications in a short period of time as well as never being warned about tapering off medication which lead to a year of debilitating side effects. It also felt like I wasn't even a patient of hers since she would never remember the medications I was talking previously or presently. It felt like she never took the time to even know me or what I needed since she never remembered which is scary since it lead to such a terrible experience with medication. The office in the chula vista location has the rudest phone receptionists as well. It seems like they hire anybody for this role since I have yet to have a positive experience on the phone. I called to complain before but never had a response after that. I was only called by KMG psychiatry to take down my google review on this place after posting the same thing there. My care under Dr. Bindal was such an awful waste of time. I came to him seeking treatment for depression and anxiety. He immediately suggested TMS treatment, assuring me it would be 100% covered by insurance. It's become clear to me after going through his program that he's found a loophole in the insurance industry to make money off of TMS at no cost to his patience, and he therefore pushes it at every opportunity. Over my 3-month treatment with Dr. Bindal, I believe I saw him in person only twice, both times just for a couple of minutes as he happened to be in the office during my TMS appointments. The rest of my interaction with Dr. Bindal consisted of phone calls, all less than 5 minutes, in which I never felt actually heard or listened to. There were times when I'd express directly feeling no improvement with my depression symptoms, or even a worsening of them. And Dr. Bindal, without fail, would reply, "I think you are doing incredible." Or he'd aver that the TMS treatment would cure that by the end of my sessions. The TMS didn't help at all. I'm not stating that it doesn't work for anybody -- just that it wasn't an effective treatment for me, and it felt like Dr. Bindal didn't care as long as the insurance checks kept rolling in. There was one point in my treatment when we changed my medication to see if that would improve anything. The result was a disaster: I couldn't sleep, my anxiety was through the roof -- it was miserable. I called several times to connect with Dr. Bindal about the negative side effects. It took three days to get a call back from him. When I finally did, he kinda guilted me about requesting a call from him before our next scheduled appointment. And his solution to my misery was to merely switch me back to the medication I was on before -- that clearly wasn't helping. Again, as long as he can get you in a TMS chair and get the money from the insurance companies, that's all he cares about. Well, that and Yelp reviews. I was asked countless times during my treatment to leave a 5-star Yelp review. I could never bring myself to, because I felt so poorly handled by Dr. Bindal. But now he has a billboard up near my neighborhood that I drive past all the time. Every time I see his face on that ad next to the words "Center of Excellence," it makes me feel like I should share my poor experience and try to save others from the same half-hearted treatment I received. Honestly, I would love to give him 1 star rather than 2, but I gave 2 stars for two specific reasons: 1) His TMS technicians in the office are awesome. Super sweet and nice, good at their jobs, and pleasant to work with. 2) He does spring to make his patients comfortable during the TMS sessions. Each room is decked out with a large HDTV, all pre-loaded with Netflix accounts. So, thanks to Dr. Bindal, I was able to watch the entire first season (plus a few episodes of season 2) of a show I'd been wanting to watch for quite a while. read more

I searched high and low for a good psychiatrist for my son and his recurrent major depression. While online doing research, I came across TMS treatments and the great results people had with it, and that lead me to Dr. Bindal. My son agreed to give him a try. This decision saved my son's life. Dr. Bindal was so kind, patient, and really listened to my son when others rushed him through the behavioral health system. You can tell he really cared and wanted to help. He is so knowledgeable (an expert, to be exact) about TMS treatments and we had complete trust and faith in him. He told us what to expect after each round of treatment and sure enough, Dr. Bindal was always accurate. TMS isn't an overnight fix for depression and it's definitely a commitment on the patient's part, but it's worth it! And God willing it's covered by your insurance because it's not cheap (thankfully my son's insurance covered it). He responded so well with these treatments. Considering where he was when he started seeing Dr. Bindal to now? Total night and day. When I say Dr. Bindal and TMS saved my son's life, I mean it! My son is doing so much better and is no longer in that dark space. He hasn't needed treatments in about a year and a half, but Dr. Bindal still keeps in touch with him to see how he's doing. I thank God every day that we found him. Regarding the staff there, they were awesome as well. Very respectful. Although it was a little hard reaching them by phone (I always assumed they were busy with patients), they were very responsive to emails and replied within 24-48 hours. I wouldn't refer KMG to anyone, under any circumstance. If you're a person of color, you'll be gaslit, spoken down to, lied on, and you'll have to jump through an irrational amount of hoops. Your insurance will be charged for appointments though the 'Dr' did not even show up, and if you file a grievance or request the log of appts billed through insurance, you're dropped as a patient. read more

The level of care of the doctors was just fine. This is about the support staff, who make the place untenable. Twice I needed prescription refills. Both times, I sent several messages over the course of a week, none of which were returned. Finally, I basically had to blitz them both times with emails, texts, voicemails, etc, to even have anyone actually acknowledge that I needed help. The last time, Ankur in the front office sent me a very rude message back, refusing to refill my medication at all, and I fired them. This level of care just is beyond inappropriate. You can't trust this place; they will ignore you over and over and then gaslight you into believing its somehow your fault. Also - just wait. I'm sure they'll respond to this pretty quickly given their responses to others. But there's no excuse for a health care provider ignoring a patient for over a week - twice - on a simple medication refill. None. And you can look at all of the other one star reviews to see the lack of care this place shows its patients. Response to below: 1. I don't know whose fault it is, but if you had bothered to ask - and you didn't - I'd have told you I've been out of the meds for a few days. So someone screwed up somewhere. 2. Your doctor's first response to my very basic request, after ignoring me for over a week, was a personal attack. So you're damned right I told him to go screw himself, and I'd do it again. In fact: Screw you too, and please convey the same sentiments to Ankur as well. 3. 5 minute phone appointments (not telebealth, just a phone call) with a distracted and less than competent nurse, never an actual psychiatrist (but you get billed for a full appointment with a psychiatrist). All they do is ask what you want your medication to be renewed as. They also never answer the phone and will take at least a day to get back to you, if they ever do. I'll be honest, I need a little better monitoring than this as someone treating adhd and a heart problem, and a non doctor point blank k can't provide that, but after so many years of taking the same medication and my main issue was not being able to get it consistently or appointments being so many months out...it was a relief to basically have things auto-renewed even though I was aware most of this process feels illegal and possibly a bad idea. But after this last appointment I can't even give them that much credit. Had a scheduled call at 9am and they just never called, with no way for me to reach them! read more

After speaking to this place further I can say the level of care this place provides is nothing short of child abuse. That gave my autistic child a schedule II amphetamine without my permission after a phone call and no review of his medical records or prior diagnosis. He's been administered the drug for two years and the records they provided me are so incomplete that it's obvious the extent the therapy this place provides is limited to prescribing drugs. read more

I have struggled with depression and anxiety for half of my life, since I was 14 years old. I have been on many different antidepressants and seen multiple therapists. Mental health is something that I have always struggled with. I am so thankful that I came to KMG Psychiatry and met Dr. Bindal. I was dealing with a lot, and at one of the lowest points in my life (suicidal) when I spoke to Dr. Bindal. He diagnosed me with MDD (major depressive disorder) and took the time to listen to me and my concerns. He wanted to help me in anyway he could. He recommended TMS therapy for me. At first, I was very skeptical because I have never heard of TMS. Even during the weeks of treatments I wasn't sure if it was working, or if I had made the right decision to do the treatment. Thank the Lord for Dr. Bindal! He helped me get back to being healthy again. When I first saw Dr. Bindal, I was 89 lbs, depressed, suffering from anxiety attacks and severe insomnia. Dr. Bindal really cares about his patients. He listened to my concerns and worked with me to find the right medications to treat my insomnia, anxiety and depression. He is kind, friendly and upbeat. His front desk staff is great too. After 2 years and a lot of work maintaining a healthy routine (diet, sleep, excercise) and mindset, I am no longer on any medications (with Dr. Bindal's careful monitoring). TMS is a commitment of 18 minutes a day, five days a week for six weeks, which I did and would do it again. The results are life changing. Summary: Woefully short appointment, would not recommend. 1. My telemedicine appointment, which was my first appointment ever with KMG, Dr. Bindal, or any psychiatric facility was scheduled for 1pm PST. I expected some form of contact before this time including instructions or a call from a receptionist, but received nothing that day other than appointment confirmation emails. As such, I called KMG thrice between 1pm and 1:17pm, and all calls were sent to voicemail. Upon calling the 4th time, at 1:18, I finally received an answer from someone on the KMG staff stating Dr. Bindal was running behind and would call me momentarily. I finally received a call from Dr. Bindal at 1:20pm, 20 minutes after my appointed time. Apparently running late is pretty standard, but an appointment starting late with no instructions or contact that day did have me rather anxious, as I am used to being asked to be 15 minutes early to any medical appointment. I expected that this expectation of punctuality was reciprocal, but was apparently incorrect (per KMG's response to my initial review). My personal perception and feelings on the matter were of either being ignored or forgotten, which I believe to be less-than-acceptable for the psychiatric care field. 2. My call with Dr. Bindal lasted just 14 minutes and 3 seconds. I would estimate around 4 minutes of this call was spent verifying Personally Identifiable Information, requesting my preferred pharmacy, figuring out the contact information for that pharmacy, and advocating I try a certain medication. This means that within about 10 minutes, Dr. Bindal decided that I had a certain condition, and that I should take medication for it. It is my opinion that people are complicated, and that it is unlikely anybody can accurately diagnose mental health issues or status in around 10 minutes, without asking further questions or exploring other options. In my personal opinion, advocating mind-altering, and potentially dangerous, medication so quickly has an unacceptably high risk of being detrimental to a patient's health and wellbeing. My personal belief is that this approach is negligent, whether it is an industry standard or not. This would still be my belief even if the entire 14:03 call was spent on diagnoses, as 15 minutes would still not be enough for an accurate diagnoses, in my opinion. This review contains my own perceptions and opinions, but call lengths and times are completely factual and verifiable via phone records. NP Donna Grandi is absolutely amazing! Beyond five stars truly she goes above and beyond as a provider! Her holistic approach to therapy is excellent! She can get the best out of my son who has a traumatic brain injury and has a hard time with providers who don't hear him and she does so with so much grace and intelligence! I can't thank her enough she is just what he needed! He looks forward to speaking with her each and every month and that is just one of the things that make her special and spectacular! She is always a phone call or text away and that's important for him! We appreciate her more than anyone could imagine! Scheduled an appointment on the app to have a tele chat with the doctor. No one called or emailed me to confirm my appointment time. Nor did anyone call for my appointment either. Called their office 4 times with no answer or response to my voicemail. It's so sad to me that so many companies take mental health as a joke. As a new patient I made an appointment for my teenage son for an assessment for adhd which I was told by the receptionist is a condition that they are experienced in treating. Dr Bindal was an hour and a half late to the phone call appointment. No one called to let us know he was behind schedule. I was told the appointment would last about 45 mins to an hour. After only 5 mins of conversation Dr Bindal said he wanted to start my son on anti depressants. I asked if he planned to talk to my son and reminded him this was supposed to be an assessment for adhd. He seemed unprepared but agreed to talk to my son. In less than 5 mins all he did was explain to a 16 year old how to take the medication. My son asked if there are side affects and Dr. Bindal said he could find that information by googling it! The whole experience left us baffled. They were so unprofessional that I question whether or not this is even a legitimate medical practice! And now I'm stuck paying the copay for a medical service that we didn't actually revive. I wish there were an option to give 0 stars read more

I had a terrible experience with Dr Bindal. I agree with other reviewers who said he was not respectful of their time and was too quick to come to a treatment plan. I'm certainly glad he was very helpful to other patients but I feel he needs to improve aspects of his practice. If you I want to work with a doctor who respects your time and he is not the doctor for you. I have been having anxiety/depression issues and contacted him to get a second opinion on my treatment and perhaps find a more caring, empathetic doctor. I had an initial call set up on a Friday and was advised he might be 1/2-1 hr. late to the call. It ended up being 1/2 hr. past the scheduled time. I described my situation, he quickly recommended a medication, and told me to come in the following Tuesday to begin TMS treatment. The call was about 20 minutes and done. The following Tuesday I was contacted and told my insurance did not cover the TMS treatment so it was cancelled. A few weeks went by and I contacted the office again for a second consultation on my medications and treatment. I was also hoping my insurance had been approved by then. The call was scheduled for a few days later at 2:00 PM. Subsequently, I received text reminders several times a day saying I was to "meet" with Dr. Bindal on the scheduled day. So I figured it was an office appointment and drove to the office on the scheduled day. When I arrived, I was advised it was a phone appointment. I expressed my frustration with the misleading communications, and gave the receptionist my phone number so he could call. Not wanting to be in transit during the call I went to my car and waited for the callback. Dr. Bindal called 2 hours later. By this time I was totally pissed. I asked him what he would do if a doctor was 2 hours late for an appointment, and he said he would ask why, so I asked him. He gave me a lame excuse about COVID and software systems being messed up and not having access to my contact information. This was a flat out BS as I had left my phone number with the receptionist. I told him I thought that was a terrible way to treat a patient and that I was no longer interested in his services. He may be a helpful doctor but I don't like the cavalier way he treats his patients. I also wonder if he wanted me to go into TMS treatments right away before any in depth discussion of my situation as it is a big money maker for his practice. read more

Dr. didn't call me at our scheduled time last week for our session because they had the wrong # on file...even though the Dr. has called the right one before. Took time off work for this call that never happened...that really pissed me the fuck off because work is really busy. This missed call means I also ran out of meds. Weekend came and they are out of the office. I went two days off meds I SHOULDN'T stop taking that abruptly. Today I spent all day on the phone back and forth with them and the pharmacy because I need my meds refilled. I made a total of 8 phone calls between the doctor and pharmacy and it just couldn't be done. Talked to multiple people at the Dr. office including one 10 minutes before they closed their office, who put me on hold and told me she literally sent my med approval back to the pharmacy while she had me on hold. I was more relieved than frustrated at that point. So I show up to the pharmacy 2 hours later. It's a total of 50 minutes of drive time back/from the pharmacy. I arrive and they never got the approval from the office. It's a controlled substance so the pharmacy couldn't help. I call the office back hoping they have an after-hours team like my previous psychiatrist used to have, to help get me at least meds for today. But nothing. Day 3 off my meds and I can't seem to find a single person who can help with this basic request I have desperately tried to solve for ALL DAY. If I didn't need a refill I would break up with this Doctor now. But it has been 3 days. Instead, I am going to take MORE time off work to spend one more hour of my time tomorrow making back and forth calls between the Doctor's office and the pharmacy like a ping pong ball because that is the only way this will get done, and THEN I will break up with the Doctor once I have enough medication to search for the next one. I kept wondering whether the Doctor has any idea how difficult they are making things for this patient but since I don't feel heard by them I figured this review would do the trick. This is the worst experience I have ever had. I booked an appointment with Dr. Lindsey Law in early April and she called me over an hour before my appointment, which I did not answer because I was sleeping. I called the office after waiting for hours for my appointment and their response was "well she did call you". My response was that I had been sleeping because she called be early in the morning an hour before my appointment was scheduled. They then told me that they would message her to call me and I still did not receive any call or information after. They then offered to book me another appointment in a few weeks (when they should have fit me in at an earlier time considering everything going on) but I agreed. My second appointment came and I again, did not receive a call. I called the office and they informed me that I "canceled my appointment", which I did not. Again, their response was that they would message Dr. Law to give me a call. Hours went by and I still did not receive a call or any information. My question is, how the hell did they think that it was okay to mess up not one, but two of my appointments...like really how do you even manage to do that. I waited months to meet with Dr. Law and they offered me no help. This is the most unprofessional company I have ever come into contact with and they should be embarrassed. I am completely shocked by the way they treat their patients. If I could give this place negative stars, I would. Keep in mind that while I was clearly distraught and emotional on the phone, the best they could do was sit there in silence and do absolutely nothing. They should be ashamed, I cannot believe how terrible this place is and this review definitely does not do it justice.
