I started coming again now that I got into model kit building and painting and I have a totally new appreciation for this place. Due to the small size of the store, the selection is not comprehensive, but I always find very cool things every time I come in. I usually shop for gunpla, military model kits, game miniatures, and hobby supplies like paints and glues. I'm fine with paying a bit more to support a local store, but I'm always pleasantly shocked that prices here are either roughly the same as online or cheaper! I don't keep up with anime figure prices anymore so I can't tell you if the prices on those are as competitive. I can only vouch for the model kits/miniatures/supplies. The biggest downside is the place is super cramped, but in a way it's also somewhat of a plus because I can look around at the various stacked boxes and find lots of treasures. Plus the person behind the counter (think he's the owner?) is very nice and patient.

The store offers a variety of collectible/fun items at competitive and relatively low prices. They have a rotating and wide selection of figures from various franchises that other stores in the Japantown mall might not have, even the Kinokuniya. During my last visit (12/17/2025) in particular I remember they had a huge selection of Spy Family figures and many of the Project Sekai Sega Prize figures but they also carry other merch from many other franchises like JJBA, Love Live, and MHA. The store limits its capacity to six customers at a time but that's only because they have so much items in the store! The employees are very nice and help get the items you want quickly, every item I've purchased from here has been unopened and in perfect condition. Highly recommend this store

It's interesting to see so many characters all over the city especially in the Summer time . There is one place which has lots of stuffed characters ( not from eating food) at a mall in SF. It's at the Japan Center Mall in Japantown of San Francisco and it's called Amiko. On a Japantown stroll I landed at Japan Center Mall West and entered Amiko. Inside you will see some interesting stuffed characters and other items usually from the land of the rising sun. You will also find different characters to fill a public trinket box. Customer service was great, and the prices were decent. This was my first time buying Smiski, glad I was able to find them here. :)

There are so many places you can visit in the city which have lots of activities especially during upcoming Summer months. Although there are few malls left in the city there is one place I like to go to for fun is the Japan Center Mall. There is one place for fun items and it's called iFun. On the last few days of Spring stroll in San Francisco I landed at the Japan Center Mall at iFun. Inside you will find blind toy boxes such as Lubu's and other animal creatures in SF. Inside you will see lots of people of all ages drawing and creating crafts. You will also find toys from Sanrio like Hello Kitty and Pikachu. This is a good place to find a gift. The glue is the texture of frosting and in fact you squeeze it out from a tube like frosting so it's part of the decoration. Every kid gets to choose 2 colors, and they can also share between them. There are some limits like you can only glue on one side of the mirror, because they will tape it down to a paper plate and you can't glue to the other side. There was no one doing the activity on a Sunday around 2pm, except they told us we had to come back in 30 minutes because they needed to clean. We came back in 30 minutes and there had be absolutely no cleaning done (it was the same disposable tablecloths that had glue stains, the same excess pieces on the table). It wasn't overly messy, but clearly they just wanted to go on break, why didn't they just say that? You take your finished craft with you, and it takes 3 days to fully drive, but within a few hours it was hard enough that no beads could be accidentally pushed off of the craft.

I don't remember when I started visiting, but I would always come by with my city friends or at least just 1 of them. Since Yelp wants me to type up the "service" part of these reviews, the place always thrived there. There are various bookstores which face the street sidewalks of San Francisco and are easy to enter and exit. There is a bookstore in San Francisco which is hidden from the public side walk and accessible through a mall on the second floor. In the land of the rising sun Kinokuyina is a bookstore was founded in 1927 in Japan and turns 100 years next year. This San Francisco location is the first in the USA which opened since 1969. They have other locations such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Singapore,Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the Philippines. Inside you will find lots of books in Japanese Kanji and English Manga. So I would say this location is maybe 40% reading books, 40% Manga, toys, and gifts and 20% magazines. Or, you can come visit and check it out yourself. There's cute things here worth checking out.

I'm going to say that what I've seen here is mostly what I have seen all over SoCal at the Bandai locations, at Shibuyala, Mitsuwa, etc. so it's not THAT unique, but there are a few machines that I have not seen such as a bottle clip that was a pair of glasses among some other things.
