They had several setups and one on the big screen downstairs. If we had more time, we would've waited in line to play the demo or purchase some merch. I like how well the store is organized by areas dedicated to Mario, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, Pokemon etc. Pleasantly surprised by how reasonable the pricing was. I really wanted some of the Mario Kart gear, but maybe I'll order online. I did notice most of the customers were adults, so I fit right in. We came here on a Sunday afternoon and it was as busy as it gets! We had to stay in line outside for about 10 minutes. The entire store was packed inside. It has all your Nintendo related things such as Pokémon, Zelda, Mario, Splatoon, etc. if you're a Nintendo fan like me, you're in the right place. There are 2 stories but the elevator was not working so we couldn't bring our stroller downstairs. I like this store but if you've been to the Nintendo store in Tokyo, it's nothing compared to it. This store is two stories full of awesome and colorful offerings. The lower floor (below ground level) included gaming on several large screens, visitors playing Mario Kart on multiple TV's and devices. Merchandise for sale consisted of unique console controllers, kitchenware, clothing, hats, toys, stuffies, and gifts in various themes like Zelda, Kirby, and Animal Crossing. We got ourselves a Bowser ornament for the holidays as well as an adorable Pokemon 8-ball set. The purchase line wasn't very long, but service was slow at the counter to pay. Also, there was a rude worker who made unnecessary comments and had an attitude just cuz my bro walked near him (didn't brush against him or touch him at all). Keep in mind that this store gets crowded, so everyone is walking close to each other. It's almost unavoidable. Hence, this employee probably shouldn't be working here if he has a problem with being in close proximity with customers. He almost ruined our positive experience. Been wanting to check this store out when we were in San Francisco and we did just that. Stopped in and it's a pretty nice store. There's two stories to this place, with upstairs (the street level) with their Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong, and other fun displays. Lots of wallets, hoodies, game jackets, and so on. If you're looking to buy gifts for any Nintendo game enthusiast, this is definitely a great spot. They don't really sell games, but maybe it's a pick up location if you order on their website. The lower level has Pokemon, Legend of Zelda, and also two playing stations where you can play with the controllers, or compete with a friend. Nice store overall if you're looking for merchandise, but not a place to grab the system games themselves. Located in Union Square, this store is cute! no line, walked right in. 2 floors. the staff was welcoming and friendly. I asked one of the staff for help with getting a shirt size. Often times when we ask this, we get this response "all we have is what's on the floor". BUT not here! the gal was super helpful and got one of her co-workers to go to the back and find one for me. I was lucky enough to get a warp pass on opening weekend for this store. I was hoping we can get one by us I am so happy it finally happened. My expectations were'nt too high due to being spoiled by Nintento Stores in Japan. But I was happy surprised with this store. They controlled the crowd so the store wasn't too overcrowded during the grand opening. They had everything and more. All the stuff I would expect them to have, they did. I was also super happy to see Pokemon Center items there because we do not have a Pokemon Center around here. They also had games on the lower floor for kids and adults alike to play some friendly Mariokart matches. Overall experience was good. I took home a lot of merch and I was happy about my purchase. It moved quickly, and once inside it was clear why they do it. The store was buzzing. Packed. Electric. I had a baby in a stroller, and without that crowd control it would've been a boss-level nightmare. Instead? Smooth, manageable, and honestly appreciated. This trip was a birthday surprise for my partner--who is a die-hard Nintendo fan--and from the second we stepped inside, her face said it all. Two levels of pure nostalgia, color, and joy. Every corner had something that made you stop, smile, and say, "Okay... that's cool." Quick reality check: the elevator. It's tiny. Like, "hold your breath and make new friends" tiny. It just fit the three of us and the stroller. If you're claustrophobic, prepare yourself. And if you're visiting with a stroller, expect to wait--once it's full, you're catching the next elevator ride. Not ideal, but manageable with patience. Now let's talk merch. This place is a Nintendo fan's dream and a wallet's worst enemy. So many unique items you won't find anywhere else. We were dead set on one of the iconic red hoodies, but popular sizes were already sold out (not shocking at all). Still, we walked out with a bag full of awesome goodies and zero buyer's remorse. This is a really fun stop, especially if you are a gamer. We happened to walk by multiple timess during our last stay and got lucky once to find there was no line. They have those red plush rope dividers set up outside to organize the line that is usually wrapped around the corner. I did see long lines at some points over the last weekend, but it looks like the line moves pretty quickly tbh. Inside the store is bright and cheerful and there is colorful Nintendo art everywhere with tons of merchandise. They have plushies, character figures, apparel, collectibles and of course lots of games. The plush section in particular was dangerously cute for me and you could definitely end up spending way too much here. Downstairs they have a more interactive area where there are demo stations and places where you can actually play games. Still even though there was no line when I actually went and it gets really crowded and the prices are absolutely insane so just be aware of that. The San Francisco Nintendo store in Downtown San Francisco. I was able to visit here with some friends when we were in town and the line wasn't too bad when waiting to get in. It moved fairly fast and we were in in no time! The store itself has two floors and is a dream for Nintendo lovers. From Pikmin to Animal Crossing to all the classics like Pokemon, Donkey Kong, Super Mario, and more. They had really cool merch and there surely is something for everyone here. I was able to find a cool Animal Crossing pencil pouch and my friends found a lot of cool stuff too. The sounds of familiar Mario games permeated all around as the surround sound speakers pumped in coin chimes, 1 ups, and other familiar retro melodies as I explored the store. There were themed sections of merch from Mario to Yoshi to Donkey Kong, Link, Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Splatoon, lego stuff and more. The downstairs had a fun lil game area where you could play Super Mario on a huge wall projector and right next to it was a equally huge lineup of switch games. This area also had 4 tv creens to play Switch 2 demos like the new Mario Kart game which was super fun and immersive. Came here on a Friday morning in December around 10:30am. So it's been many months after they already opened. Parking is very easy with the Union Square garage literally across the street. About $5-6 per hour. It's also a couple blocks from Powell St BART. No line to get in. Great selection of items! They have merch for Mario, DK, Yoshi, Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Zelda, Kirby, a wall of Amiibos, and Splatoon. The employees were really fantastic! Everyone was very welcoming. One of them helped my friend and me taking a photo by the holiday photo op. They also told us about checking in. The cashier was very talkative in a nice way. My friend easily spent $300 on a bag full of merch ranging from pokemon knit hats and figurines, animal crossing kitchenware, blankets, and more. She loved it! I'm not nearly as huge of a Nintendo fan and still spent $100 on a holiday hat, scarf, and reusable foldable animal crossing bag. The prices are actually reasonable considering it's official merch and it's high quality. During December if you spend $50 you get free Nintendo wrapping paper! You have the option to purchase a souvenir reusable bag too. I highly recommend checking it out if you have any interest. It was well worth the drive into the city even though I usually dread doing so. We will definitely be back in a couple months for a birthday shopping trip! read more

What's more to love than a store filled with pokemon stuff?! I've been to the Nintendo store in NYC and this SF store is nice that it's less crowded. They have a doorman keeping the number inside low and it helps a lot. We came before closing on a Friday night and it was nice & empty so I got to take all my pictures and buy the switch2 without any wait. They were sold out of all sizes of T-shirts besides small and sold out of the re-useable bags so we got some lame white bag. The NYC store had no issues giving out the cute red Nintendo brand re-useable bags so I'm not sure why this store has such issues. We came in around 2PM and were greeted as soon as we came in. The greeters even noticed my brother's Kingdom Hearts shirt and joked he wouldn't find anything there at the store, but they did mention maybe one piece of merch he could get, so I'm glad they got workers who know their stuff. Certain sections were more clogged than others, like the Mario section and Animal Crossing, but that could just be because they were upstairs. Wow wow wow! Finally was able to go into the city to check out the new Nintendo store at the Union Square. This store grand opened in May 2025 and has the cutest decor and merchandise! They have the Super Mario Bros merchandise on the first floor, but they also have a basement full of other cute Nintendo characters such as Kirby and Pac-man. The cashiers were all happy and very enjoyable to chat with. We ran around the store and bought 2 Super Marios blind boxes and a small compact mirror. This is every Nintendo fans dream come true. They had so many amiibos, they had exclusive merch, they had Nintendo switch 2 consoles in stock and one to demo on with Mario kart and other games. Lots of cool decor like a huge link statue. There are two floors and they had a check in kiosk where if you sign into your Nintendo account you got some free bonus stickers. I had to have self control since there was so much stuff I wanted to buy. Literally felt like a kid in a candy store and loved every minute of it. There is a line still on weekends, but it goes fast and is worth the wait. I naively told my kids I'd stop by the Nintendo store and pick them up a souvenir during a trip to SF. When I got to the store at 3 pm on a Sunday I saw a line that was about a long block long. I was a little concerned but hoped that it moved fast (which it does.) Once I got inside I'm glad they limit the people. It was a pleasant shopping experience and never felt too busy. I asked a store worker if there are things exclusive to the store that you can't buy online. There are! There's a section of the store in the front that has things exclusive to the SF Nintendo store and then everything with a red square Nintendo on the tag is an in store exclusive. She said about fifty percent of the store has this tag. That's amazing! I felt better about waiting in line until my kids chose everything that isn't exclusive to the store. They have a Mario section, link, pokemon, the splat ink people (I'm not super knowledgeable about all the other things), animal crossing and one other called pikmin I think? It's two levels and the variety of things is pretty cool. I walked out with two hats, two pouches and a small Luigi plushy. It set me back $80 so it's not cheap, but my kids will be happy. They were pushing Mario Kart World on the big screens and super lively inside. We checked into the Nintendo kiosk (all Nintendo events/stores have them if you have a Nintendo account). They also to release events, so if it's possible to come here, those are also supposed to be pretty fun. One thing to note: there are no restrooms in this store for customers. My shopping experience today was from having the Warp Pipe Pass for the Switch 2. I arrived about 10 mins before they opened with the line being about 50 people deep at this point. (Keep in mind that this line is for both pipe pass holders and those without, I saw everyone got let in at 10AM on the dot.) I got in line and about a few minutes in, a store employee came by to scan your pipe pass (if you have one). I was given a pink wrist band (which they will cut off at the register when you pay) as well as a Nintendo Switch 2 Product Sheet that you mark what Switch 2 items you would like to purchase today. There are 2 types of console: the Switch 2 system or the Switch 2 with Mario Kart World Bundle. You can also select up to 1 of each: accessories, physical games, digital games, and Amiibo characters. Unfortunately, all switch cases are sold out right now! Once inside, I was told I can browse around or head to the registers to check out. I got in line at the register. While this is happening, there are runners grabbing your items that you requested on your product sheet so by the time it's your time to check out, your items are all there. I was in and out of the store in 15 mins, not including time spent waiting in line outside. For such a big launch, it was very efficient! I will be back next week to do some actual shopping and hoping the cases will be back in stock then! read more

Maybe I went in to this store with higher expectations. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of cool Nintendo themed items here but nothing blew me away. It was not as impressive as when I visited the store in NYC years ago. First off, the store doesn't have the best of flow. People tend to congregate all around the same area causing backups for people wanting to check out what they have from their favorite IPs. They also have very few Nintendo systems out for people to demo games. I would've thought that would be a huge part of the store. My 8 and 5 year old sons were really sad they had to stand around to try out the Switch 2 because there were only 5 systems all with a crowd of people trying to play. I also wanted to check out the impressive Amiibo figures on a wall behind the systems but couldn't get to them because of said crowd. The main reason I came here, however, was for exclusive merchandise. I wanted to get something simple. A Nintendo San Fran branded shirt. They only had about 12 and they were all Mediums. I then thought maybe a sweatshirt? Only in XL. Ok. Maybe just a shirt with all the Nintendo IPs represented running on front. Not exclusive to the store, but semi exclusive. Only S. There was just not a good variety of sizes (or any really) for items that you could only get at that store. I hope as the store settles in to a flow of things they get a better sense of how to stock things. Another complaint I had was we came in with our 2 year old napping in a stroller. I saw the elevator & it said to see an employee about access. When I did, I was told the elevator was broken so the stroller had to be carried down the stairs & that he would get someone to help me out. No one came. I waited and waited. Finally another customer offered to help me and only as we started going down did an employee magically appear. Really annoying. For me it was an inconvenience. But for someone in a wheelchair or another reason why they can't get down stairs? That could keep them from seeing more than half of what the store had to offer. I really hope they were working on getting that issue fixed ASAP. I will say the employees were all very friendly and tried to help. I really hope all of my issues was simply due to the store being relatively new. I don't know when I will be back in San Francisco, but when I am, I definitely plan on visiting again and I hope I have a better experience. read more

Stopped in here during a visit to the area from LA. the atmosphere is nice and clean with video game music playing and a couple character statues. Could have been a little more decorative but thats okay. Sections are organized by game (Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Kirby, and Pikmin). While it was fun to see some of the merch, it was pricey (20 dollars for a plaaric plate. 10 for a navi keychain) and I wish there was more Yoshi and more variety as far as maybe clothing or blankets. The toughest part, which I learned on this first visit to San Fran, is parking. 15 bucks to park in a garage down the block for 35 minutes. But I guess that's par for the course here. You can also customize a Switch with your desires color controllers. Overall, glad I went, but unless I'm doing a big Christmas shopping trip or something, it's too inconvenient to get to. read more

Sorry Yelp, this review is extremely biased because I absolutely love Nintendo. Unfortunately, I was busy when the initial Warp Pipe reservations were made available for the Grand Opening weekend, so I made my way here the following Monday when it was first opened to the public. I waited in the standby line that actually started at Victoria's Secret and waited over an hour and a half before finally being let in and I was in heaven. For those of you that Nintendon't, Nintendo SF is the only Nintendo store in the West Coast (not counting the store at Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios--seriously, they're overpriced and don't count) and is the second Nintendo store in the U.S.--the first one being at New York Times Square. It's a really big deal that it's in the Bay Area, because LA or Seattle might have a bigger claim to one. If you're a fan of Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, or Splatoon, you'll feel right at home at Nintendo SF. They even have solid sections for Metroid, Pokemon, Donkey Kong and Kirby. They have everything from wearables to collectibles, toys, and home decor. On top of that, it looked like almost every Amiibo was in stock, and you can also customize a brand new Switch OLED with any color Joy-Con you want and have it ready that day for the same price you'd get an OLED anywhere else. The most surprising part when looking at everything was I found the all prices to be quite reasonable. I'm not saying I bought the whole store (though I was a little irresponsible), but the prices compared to merchandise you'll find at Disneyland or Universal Studios (including Super Nintendo World) were quite decent! How is it compared to Nintendo NY? I actually like the merchandise better in terms of both selection and quality of the wearables, but Nintendo NY also does a better job with its exhibits really showcasing Nintendo history. Before I go, there's been some confusion about the Warp Pipe Reservation System. You only need a reservation during some holidays or special events, so obviously Grand Opening Weekend was one of them. This upcoming Memorial Day is another one as well. So if you're wondering if you need a reservation, I'd recommend following Nintendo Store's social media and going from there. I'm pretty sure we'll also see one when the Switch 2 launches. With Union Square being a shell of its former self, it's great seeing Nintendo liven it up! Let's-a-gooo!!! read more

Having been a lifelong Nintendo fan, I was thrilled to hear about the opening of a new Nintendo store in Union Square, less than a 20 minute walk from my office! I had May 15 on my calendar (turning out to be a nice stop-gap to look forward to before the Switch 2 release), and was checking for reservations within minutes of them opening up (note that reservations are required for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend as well). Got one for 3:30-4p on Friday (May 16) since it fit better with my office and commuting schedule. We arrived around 3p and found our way to close to the front of 3:30-4p section of the line. We walked past all of the people lined up for 3p, decked out from head to toe in Nintendo gear (I wore a Kuribo's Shoe t-shirt and a Samus hoodie to play my part in this). Chatted with a couple friends who also came along. We entered the store around 3:55p (after one of the people managing the line helped us to snap a quick photo), and I soaked it all in! After visiting Osaka, Tokyo, and NYC stores over the past 7 years, I couldn't believe we had our own. I made the rounds, enjoying all of the large sculptures of the major characters. There were a lot of people in the store, but it didn't feel over crowded or chaotic. Everyone there was super nice, helping people enjoy their Nintendo fandom. I headed down the stairs and was delighted to find another large floor, as well as a wall-sized monitor running Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I went up and down the stairs several times before picking up any items, and they give you large shopping bags for all your stuff. One quick tip - there's a check-in station near the monitor, sign into your phone with your Nintendo account and scan it, and they'll give you 50 platinum points and a sticker of a character walking (which changes on some schedule). A couple of my favorite items that I picked up: a Mario Kart cap, Big Key keychain, and a Zelda blanket. For $5 you can get a comically large red tote bag, which I initially turned down but then realized we needed a new family trip laundry bag. Overall I had a lovely visit of about an hour before leaving. Who knows how often I'll be back, but I'm so happy to have this store in the heart of SF. read more
