He fixed two of our old gate locks that had been bothering us for years, without being asked and without even mentioning it. Now the gates lock with ease. He etched a simple "g" on all the gate keys. This is NOT comparable with other companies on the market (my other daughter had the same a few months ago and got this plus they threw in a regular key for $250 and another company I called said it would be $260 all in!). When the technician arrived at my teenage daughter's residence she felt intimidated by him especially when he said one price then charged another, without explaining the extra charges to her, and then the guy offered to give her another key is she gave him $100 cash!! This was abusive tactics of a business towards a young vulnerable woman. She just paid so he would leave. I believe he discriminated based on location, as she is in a nicer neighborhood than I called from, and took advantage of my daughter being young. I talked to the owner the next day and he laughed at us and blamed us for not knowing what a 'key' means, for being dumb enough for losing her key in the first place and then said they did nothing wrong by charging us undisclosed trip charges and coding charges and stands by the idea that a basic 'key' with no remote access should cost $335! He denigrated his female customers even further and refused to supply my daughter with a key that make her have safe and swift access to her car with a remote access.

I was happy about that because my front door was not secure and I was about to go out of town for an extended period of time. The lockset on my narrow stile door is not a garden variety lock and has many variations and nuances. The locksmith was puzzled from the get-go and when I offered some advice, he welcomed my input. I am technically capable and had worked on the lockset before. Regrettably, he did not follow my guidance on how to complete one of the tasks in the reassembly process and as a consequence, one tiny screw could not be installed. The holes were slightly misaligned. So he just left it out. The lock worked and was safe, but the cover plate would bind on the jam. To his credit, he told me about it and gave me the screw. After he left, I disassembled the lock to the point of being able to make the adjustments necessary so that the screw could be installed and then reassembled everything. The main plus was that he came out right away and brought the replacement lock components that I could not obtain locally and got my lock functional within hours. Had I been able to buy the part myself I would have done the work myself. I'm pleased with everything, even considering that I had to redo some of it. I think it is unreasonable to expect any particular locksmith to know the nuances of every possible lock, especially unusual / exotic ones, so I'm OK with it and will call Howard again if I find myself in a bind.

He made quick visit to inspect what our lock needs were and went back for the proper tools and items - a move which I 100% respected to ensure our door's lock was properly serviced. Michael took his time but was not going slow to rack up the service time clock - he finished up everything in about 30 minutes and my wife and I were both very satisfied and happy with the end result. The technician did not tell us or discuss any changes or special needs, much less any reason to charge so much more than quoted. I do not recommend this locksmith. This company is not honest or trustworthy. When I called to talk to the owner, she began talking over me and ultimately yelling at me. I told her I was going to post about the incident and her response was to threaten to sue me to protect her company. I am editing my review after reading the response to my post. When I told the owner that I would post about her business she said, "we will sue you" and said, quote, "we know where you live." She also said, "we will use your text in court." I hope she does!!! If you choose to do business with these folks, Just make sure you get a firm price and watch the work being done. Greg Gilbert (General Manager) and Leonard Ekholm (Operations Manager) were very helpful in making sure that the safe that I selected met my needs. There was absolutely NO "upselling" and NO sales pressure at Baker Safe & Lock. They answered all my questions in a professional, easy to understand manner. The next day, two safe technicians, Brad and John, delivered the safe in great condition. Unfortunately for me, my homebuilder had installed a door that is just 1-1.5" inches wider than the smallest dimension of the safe and the room has a slight turn at the entrance. Despite this challenge, Brad and John expertly and carefully maneuvered the safe pass the door and installed it in my selected spot. Seeing them move the safe was impressive. . .especially without one of those safe-moving robots. On top of this, they took great care to make sure that my hardwood floors and walls were well protected during the move with proper scratch resistant floor paneling and heavy duty steel plates to protect the driveway and concrete walkway. After the installation, Brad and John reviewed the operation of the safe. In summary, with Baker Safe & Lock you get end-to-end great service and a very good selection at the best price in town.
