Requested a quote to have a furnace replaced in my house as Knight had a $1500 off promotion for the goodman furnances they provide. A estimator came and wouldn't provide any written quote instead specifically said they dont do written quotes, so I had to take down any notes myself. We asked for a quote for the exact model of goodman that I had quoted from another company and the price came to $2000 more for the exact same thing! And thats with the $1500 off already!!!. We are saddened to be left without a option for days/ 1 week+ after an emergency appointment was cancelled on Christmas Day. Unfortunately the reviews on this page are not reflective of our experience. We are an extended family, and care for 91 year old mother. There are significant care needs when caring for the elderly. Our family called Christmas eve at the recommendation of another company. We had an appointment through customer service set up for 3 days later. Once we explained our situation, they were kind enough to book us in for next day. We were expecting a call on Christmas Day to tell us when the plumber would be arriving. Instead the individual cancelled my appointment, stating it would be almost another week and that we had been bumped. We asked for our original appointment and to please be reasonable. We were looking for more information to understand why our needs to care for our elderly family member were considered less important then others. Our customer service rep then hung up on us. We then called around on Christmas Day looking for a company who has compassion. Had we known being bumped was a risk we would not have booked in for today or gone with another company were we felt confident in our booking. For anybody reading this please look elsewhere for a company that understands a week+ is long time with no water for an extended elderly family. read more

These guys came out to my parents' house because their furnace wasn't blowing hot air. They told them that it was the inducer motor and they would come back the next day to fix the problem. They came back and replaced the motor and were in and out within 25 minutes. My parents' furnace still had the same problem after they left. We contacted the tech who worked on the furnace and he said "the furnace was in rough shape and probably needs to be replaced". The next day they sent out another tech who also said that the furnace needed to be replaced. My question to them was why they recommended the $1300 fix for the inducer motor if they really thought the whole unit should be replaced. I called CMAC Mechanical and their tech came out and found out that the problem was the furnace filter was too thick and it was blocking airflow and causing the furnace to shut off. The CMAC tech also opened up the furnace and showed me that the furnace showed no signs that would indicate it needed to be replaced. The original tech that Knight had sent out also didn't fill Out a diagnostic report, as confirmed by their manager Geoff. Geoff then gave me a take it or leave it offer of $300 refund. He then called me again and hung up the phone when I didn't agree to his terms. Stay away from these guys. Predatory is an understatement. read more

We have been Knight clients for many years. They installed our furnace, water heater, and water softener a few years back and have been maintaining them ever since because we were happy with them, but that will end now. First off, when looking at reviews, don't look at anything prior to a year or so ago. Knight used to have excellent customer service, admin, and follow-up. That is no longer the case and I think you'll see that in the reviews. Apparently ownership changed a while back and it seems to have seriously affected their customer service. Though their current rating is not great, it is still being buoyed up by older reviews/ratings. It's tedious to rehash all that went wrong with our recent attempts for annual maintenance, but it was multiple missed appointments in the 8am to Noon window with no call or text updates, incorrect service invoices or assigning of Techs (eg. sending guys who can only do the furnace, instead of the Furnace and Water Heater as we request), and other issues where the Techs are not even aware of what was requested. We have a monthly subscription with Knight that we will be cancelling and moving to another company as it is now too much hassle to schedule, confirm the schedule, confirm what is being done and what they are bringing, etc. and it still being wrong when the Tech turns up. There are too many HVAC options out there to justify paying for this current mediocrity. read more

They sent an apprentice that made mistakes so they sent a different guy to fix - he put metal plates at all the 2x4 's that were right where the cabinets were to be connected to the wall so we could not put in cupboards.. such a waste of time and money .. they had the plans so they just messed up twice ... never again read more

Called Knight Plumbing in mid March for a leaky drain pipe. Guy came out, took a few pictures, charged $99 call-out fee and said they'd get back to us with a quote within 24 hours. A week went by and we heard nothing. Called their office and was told a manager would contact me within 48 hours to resolve the issue. Nothing again... Three weeks after the initial appointment I called them AGAIN - receptionist tells me she'll personally look into the issue and call me back by the end of the business day... This is 24 hours later and I'm still waiting!! DO NOT CALL THEM - WHAT A SCAM!! Extremely angry we had to pay $99 call-out fee for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!! read more

My new tankless water heater stopped working and showed an error message. I called knight plumbing and was told that someone would show up that morning. Technician called and said he would be there in 30 minutes. When he showed up he knew exactly what the problem was ( issue with the mother board). He tracked one down and picked it up and was back within the hour and I had hot water! YAY!!. Dave M then explained another issue to me, that I had with my new'ish trenchless sewer system ( that was installed by someone else). Very helpful and personable. read more

The plumbing concept in Calgary of making the customer pay a 'callout' charge on top of the stiff parts & labour, has got to go. Think about this, consumer, does anyone pay you to GO TO WORK?!? I am in a business where I used plumbers quite a bit. I used this company about 3 months ago. I NO LONGER use plumbers who charge a 'callout' fee. All good that they give you NICE phone service, and are POLITE people, but this extra charge just makes you feel ripped off. read more

I've had two experiences with Knight. The first was to install a hot water heater to replace ours that died suddenly (it bled to death, starting at around 11pm); they arrived on time and not only installed the new HWH but also replaced the chimney flashing and redid some piping. All clean, fast, and reasonably priced. Second was just yesterday (Tuesday March 31). It started on Saturday when we had a clogged kitchen sink and called Action Auger to auger it. The auger broke the pipe, or so the plumber believed (more on that in a moment), with horrible black water pouring through the light fixtures in our remodelled basement bathroom. We could only let the water flow out and turn off the upstairs tap, and wait for repair. Plumber 1 said his manager would be in touch with us Monday. Suggested we have to replace the ancient galvanized pipes. Kitchen would cost us $2400 and whole house would be around $7000. We knew we'd at least have to do the former. So we wait for Monday. Monday morning I call Action at 8:30. Receptionist says manager is aware of our problem and would call me. I wait until 11 and do what the plumber had suggested which is to get other quotes, so I call Knight. They come in perhaps 30 minutes and do NOT charge me Action's $70 service call charge. Plumber arrives with student apprentice and estimates repair for $1200-1500. Not $2400. And can come the next day (yesterday) at 10am. Action NEVER called back. Knight showed up on time and with minimal damage to drywall- enough to discover that pipe had two actual holes; how we hadn't had flooding is anybody's guess but auger might have cleared debris and exposed them so that accident was a blessing in disguise but does not release Action from honouring its promise to call me! Anyway getting back to Knight: All done in under 4 hours. Clean, fast, polite service. I cannot be happier and they have my business now. Oh, final charge was $1158. Not, to repeat, $2400. read more

Came home yesterday to a cold main floor and an apparently dead furnace. I had used Knight several years ago to good results, so I called them. I described the problem and identified the make and age of furnace to their answering staff. As I have another furnace for the upstairs, a gas fireplace and the weather, if not balmy, was not a Calgary sub freezing night, I set upon appointment for the morning. The repair tech (Kevin) was here on time and like Santa in the "Night Before Christmas" went right to his work and inspected the system from the thermostat to the furnace innards. The problem was quickly identified (filthy filters - my bad) and corrected. As this didn't cut to far into the hour I was going to pay for anyway I had him check out the furnace and its mate (which needed clean filters as well). He gave them a clean bill of health. While the process cost me more than changing the filters on the proper schedule even considering the seniors discount he did not try to upgrade me into a larger repair or any other upgrades. The whole experience was positive, time from problem discovery to once more having the house warm once more was satisfactory and my commitment to maintaining my filter schedules re-enforced. read more

The worst experience of my life. Contracted knights plumbing to do a large master bath reno and redo my main stack. First mistake was contacting knights plumbing. Very unprofessional. Worked here for a half a day and were able to cause me 2 days work replacing subfloor they destroyed and cutting out all the work they did. I called in on a Saturday after my furnace stopped working and the man who answered the phone advised me that it would be $130 for a service call on a Saturday and then I would be provided a quote to repair the problem. Well the technician arrives and after only 30 mins he present me with a bill for $540 and tells me the pressure switch was dusty and that he blew the dust off of it. When I question the $500/hour bill he was very rude and he tells me that the bill is so high because it is Saturday and that he would rather be sitting on the couch watching TV. read more

We had our furnace serviced because of a problem and I was told by the service man that I should not wait to call for help when something happens. I agree, but what do you do when you make appointments - 3 different times - and the service men do not show up? Nor does the company call to say they are not coming. I received a call from the management May 2nd where we made an amicable arrangement to reduce the bill. They care very much about customer satisfaction & apologized for the delay in responding as their employee dealing with this is away for an extended period. I called Knight Plumbing on April 9, 2018 because my main waterline was leaking between the valve on the street & my main shutoff in the house. The City had to be involved to shut off the street valve so we had to wait a week to address the issue. The tech arrived 25 minutes late so the city employee was long gone. He stated that the company had given him an hour to do the job which was plenty of time. He checked out the issue, quoted me $333 to replace the valve and since I was somewhat committed by this point I signed off on this. I was taken back by the cost but after working in the oil industry had heard that ball valves are very pricey. The quality of the work was great. After the tech finished the city water works employee showed up to open the valve outside & when I told him the charge he mentioned that the valve was worth about $20. My total bill was $430. I quoted the exact 1" valve at Emco for $31.36 retail - about $20 for a company to purchase. Parts for the job are roughly $50 + $75 callout fee leaving a 1 hour labour fee of $283 after tax. I requested a breakdown of the bill on their online form but after 3 days with no response decided to leave a voicemail with Mark Coffin, since his name was on responses on the Homestars review site. So here we are another 3 days later writing a review. Funny thing is the tech that did the work left me a card for Homestars to do a review. Clearly these guys don't need the business, so I encourage you to not give them yours. read more

Very uncomfortable experience. Dispatch from the company was very prompt. The technician had no clue to check the furnace problem. My furnace stopped working yesterday somewhere midnight. I woke up in the morning with 16.1 C temperature in house. Called Knight Plumbing and Heating to help. During the registration of complaint, I told the operator about no or minimum flow at vent outlets. Technician told me that the igniter and the flame temperature sensor to blame and need replacement about $ 345 (135+210) parts plus labor. I gave go ahead. No improvement. He suggested to change Temperature switch. I told him to bypass the switch and check air flow. He did that and told me that blower is weak. I told him to change blower motor and see whether problem is solved. Hi did and problem was solved. Furnace started working normal. I told him to change back the igniter and flame temperature sensor. He did but charged me for $ 940 for blower motor (1/2 HP) and 2 hours of labor. Not recommended for Furnace Repair. read more

FAILED GRADE KNIGHTS TOOK the booking at 8:55 pm, ignored the cancellation fifteen minutes later at 9:12 PM, and then tried to force me to go through with a minimum $85.00 charge when the guy showed up at my door the next morning. I called the after hours line and asked questions and set up an inspection because I was having problems with my furnace. After reading bad reviews on line I called back to the same number within 15 minutes (phone log) and CANCELLED the inspection. Next morning Im talking to ATCO ( good company) and theyre sending someone out right away. I get a call at 8;30 am after I was talking to ATCO, and they say our guy is going to come right out.. and I just figured it was ATCO because they never said the company name.!!!!! Guy shows up, says no its NOT free its 200$ and when I explain to him that they told me it was FREE he said no, yadda yadda,, and you understand that we will not come back to fix your furnace if you cancel this. I said I cancelled it last night, your dispatch should have told you. He puts me on the phone to his rep and SHE says, you booked an app't with KNIGHT and I said yes and called back and cancelled last night, within fifteen minutes. Your guy shouldnt have shown up here, I thought he was with ATCO.(the people I hired) THEN she starts pushing that I HAVE T O PAY for his showing up $85.00 I said NO I cancelled. She said I talked to you this morning. I said you never said you were KNIGHT PLUMBING or I would have corrected you, I thought you were ATCO. And man she PUSHED. And so did the guy regarding.. WE WILL NOT COME BACK YOU WILL NOT GET YOUR FURNACE FIXED TODAY. So I call ATCO and they say " Ya, our guy is coming, NO its free inspection cause your having problems, and NO we certainly do not send out anyone from KNIGHT plumbing & Heating. read more

THRILLED !! We originally hired this company to replace a kitchen faucet in 2015. 6 months later in 2016 it started to leak, so we called to have a tech come out to repair it. They had someone out the SAME DAY and fixed it free of charge. A little more than a year later in 2017 we had another leak. Once again I called and they sent the same tech the SAME DAY ! It was a faulty piece and they repaired it under warranty. I didn't have to even pay a call out fee ! The tech was quick, courteous, friendly and got the job done professionally ! In addition, each time I have called in to their office, their customer service staff are excellent as well/ So friendly and helpful. Exactly that I want to hear on the other end of the phone !! I am so happy that we chose this company to work for us. We've been thrilled and will for sure hire them in the future AND recommend them to others !! read more

Knight stepped up to do a very difficult job for us that other plumbers turned down. They had to jack hammer out an old very messy smelly grease trap and install a new one and cement it in! They were conscientious and considerate of noise when our classes were taking place and worked around our needs! The guys were willing to take the extra time to explain what they were doing and proved that they knew what they were doing. We had them back to move professional woks which involved alot of gas piping. Afterwards, The fire inspector was through and noted that they had done an exceptional job! read more

I used Knight to deal with a furnace that stopped working. Initially I called the 24hr emergency line at 2am. I was answered by an alive and awake person (yay!) who had a technician call me back (they seemed mostly asleep, fairly understandable) I described the problem and was told it could be a faulty thermostat but no heating technician was on call that night so I should call again in the morning after 8am to see if anyone was available during the day. This was disappointing as I was under the impression they always had someone on call. Since the house wasn't getting that cold though I opted not to call another company and avoid paying the extra $ to have someone come in the middle of the night. I called at 8am and two hours later they sent over Leigh. I appreciated how he explained cost and had me sign-off on each step if it would require more money then the initial call out fee. The repair came to less then I was bracing myself for. Leigh was very friendly, polite and did not leave any mess behind. He explained everything clearly and insured that the work was well documented in case the issue repeated itself. If not for the lack of on call technician when I first contacted them I would have granted 5 stars read more

Knight Plumbing & Heating are wolves in sheep's clothing- shopper beware . I made the unfortunate mistake of calling them, but wished I phoned around as I could have saved myself over $300. We had an issue with our 4 years old Lennox G43UF furnace. The technician came on time, claimed a faulty High Limit Switch Part #: 29M7501 and replaced it at a cost of $267.29 for part plus the call out fee of $75+ tax. The furnace ran for the rest of that day, but then stopped again overnight. Next day the same technician came and replaced second part, Flame Sensor Part #: 52W29 that was not working but didn't notice the issue the first call. He also rewired the thermostat. The charge for the second visit was $224.83 for part + $120.00 for 1 hour labor + tax. The total for the two visits was $726.42. When the tech left I did a quick search on the cost of the parts and found that I could buy it in Calgary from an Authorized Lennox Dealer for $65.15.00 (I'm sure Knight Plumbing gets it much cheaper). The exact model Lennox High Limit Switch Part #: 29M7501 cost - $35.15, Lennox Flame Sensor Part #: 52W29 cost $30.00, total cost of the parts is $65.15. These are genuine Lennox parts not aftermarket. Knight P&H charged me for identical parts a total of $492.12. That is a markup of 6.5 times. What this company charges for parts is almost criminal! I then called Mark the service manager, a full-time employee whose only job is to deal with unsatisfied customers. I complained about their unfair and dishonest pricing and he could not even begin to care, he totally ignored me. Even if Knight P&H were to refund me half of what I was charged for the relatively cheap parts, it would still be a huge markup & a profitable business trip. There are tons of other reputable plumbers in the area who will charge less than half, so you may want to get a second opinion. It's been almost a month since the work was done and it still makes my stomach twist to think of my near-robbery courtesy of Knight Plumbing. I'm in the process of contacting the BBB ( their BBB record already shows six unsolved customers complaints). I suggest finding someone else to service your furnace. I will never call Knight Plumbing & Heating again. read more
