There are lots of books on display and neatly organized. I also didn't expect to see all the toys, like a dollhouse, there for kids to explore. There are 6 small computers that are available for public use. The people working here were really nice and helpful. I can't wait to come back. We are a relatively new restaurant in the Bronx, and we were not aware of some requirement that…read morewere needed to submit for our liquor license renewal. Without the help from the board, and specifically from the Director Jeremy Warneke, we would have missed a deadline and be forced to close down for a few weeks due to a hold on the license. Jeremy jumped through hoops for us and researched what was needed, on his day off, and got us exactly what was required. It is rare to see this type of commitment to helping others without having any prior relationship, but he went out is his way and saved us from having to close for a few weeks and put 12 people out of work temporarily during the Holiday season. In a second, all I saw were red & blue lights right behind me. Not because I was talking, in fact I…read morewas actually using my Bluetooth. But because I was doing 53 on a 30. Pleaded with Ms. Police Officer til I turned green, said I needed to pick up my dog's Rx- before CVS Pharmacy closed. She had no time for sad stories. After that, put ticket in my bag and off I went to the pharmacy. Could've/Should've done a number of things including pay it off and move it along. But I was determined to fight the damn ticket in court. H...o...w...e...v...e...r- few things took a left turn from my part after that: lost my summons, no time to go to court, back-to-back work schedules, delayed my hearing, etcera. But I also didn't want it to affect my driving record or result in a suspended license. In any case, I missed the deadline badly, it cost me and had to take action fast. Front desk officer, directed me to the Traffic Clerk's window and I paid ticket+fees. The clerk was real cordial and didn't feel I was being brushed off- in reality, the sister helped me in every way. In the end, I fessed up and gotta be a bit more light-footed on the gas. Paying that ticket, hurt my pocketbook but listen- I admitted my guilt. And coming here was a breeze.

Well this was about as good as jury duty can be. The folks from the Commissioner of Jurors were as…read morenice as can be,despite the fact almost everyone is lying to them to get out of serving. Parking is available right next door, and not too expensive -then free directly across the street after your are picked. Would be nice if they had more than one parking machine in the courthouse as time may need to extended depending on where you fall in the jury pool. The courts operate on a union schedule, so prompt start at 10:00am, lunch from 12:30 to 2:00 pm, then done promptly at 4:30 each day. Only pick is the truly ho-hum coffee shop in the building, although there is a terrific deli/restaurant around the corner. The civil case was short - only three days, and so I am free for the next 6 years after serving. Wheee!

There are some nice folks that are willing to help but there are definitely some unfriendly folks. For example, multiple times, I have wandered into the back section (have not approached the reference desk) and the person at the reference desk has snapped at me "what do you need." It's happened multiple times and at first I thought I was in a restricted section and that was the cause of the unfriendly reception. There are also some front desk people that are not friendly. I will say Miss Anne and Miss Judy(?) as well as some of the ladies in the children section have made this location redeemable. I try to time my visits for when they are there. Otherwise I will go to Dobbs Ferry as that is also a nice library and is a bit more welcoming.
