Given the pricing I think I would have picked Best Western. The good; * Friendly, welcoming staff. * Bathrooms were clean and well maintained. * The A/C deserves a standing ovation. It worked really well. The bad: * Nice balcony with comfortable furniture (Room 311)... if you don't mind your morning coffee with a cemetery view. * No microwave in the room. * Ice machines are only on the first floor, so plan your refill trips accordingly. * Dogs aren't allowed on the patio, and there aren't any good walking paths nearby. There is a small, shaded pet relief area with a trash can, which was appreciated. read more

You get a boutique feel and the beds are amazing but the customer service isn't consistent. They need to train some people to take as good of care as customers as others. For example they left all my luggage at the airport on the sidewalk after I checked my bags in for a much later flight shuttle. The airport called me. We went here for our 10th anniversary and love it. We loved the quaint, romantic, and relaxing atmosphere. We had a balcony that looked into the trees. We liked how it's just a little out of town but an easy 8 min walk or hotel shuttle. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. The breakfast is made to order on top of the oatmeal & pastries. Were we to go back to Ketchum this would be our first thought for lodging. It is spendy but you get what you pay for. SERVICE: Stellar service from making the reservations through every part of our stay through check out. (As if they aren't sweet enough on their own, at check out as thank you we were gifted by the desk staff with a couple of luscious chocolates in a pretty box.) The people working here understand hospitality and how to make guests feel welcome. We found ourselves coming and going several times a day on each day and it never failed that every encounter with staff was top notch. In that regard we'd put them in the class with the staff for The Allison in Newberg, Oregon and that is high praise. LODGING: It was a bit of a surprise to find the facility was older than we expected it to be and although upgraded the rooms still reflected some of the age of the structure. As one example, the height of the (very spacious and well appointed) bathroom counters were 32"'ish which is an older building standard. Our five star benchmark for a boutique hotel is The Allison and by that standard this one is a bit shy of the mark. Still, the suite was spacious, the bed was comfortable, all was well maintained and the suite had a balcony overlooking the cemetary next door where Hemingway is buried. Lovely outlook if that doesn't trouble you to have so many "quiet neighbors". It also helps to be mindful of what a gift it is to have opportunities to stay at places like this. BREAKFAST: Breakfast was laid out in a cozy breakfast room every morning in buffet style with Continental options as well as a couple of hot dishes. Great coffee and to go cups available if you wanted to take a cup with you. Ipads were provided for reading the morning paper of your choice while you ate. I typically avoid free breakfast at hotels when we stay where they are offered, but I looked forward to it every morning here for the ambiance and eats. ON PREM RESTAURANT and BAR: The last night of our visit, being pooped from a long day out and about we decided to eat at the hotel's restaurant on site. While it gets great reviews, we found it to be a just OK dining experience for us. Good enough for the purpose of our evening, to have a cocktail and a light dinner, but from food through service it wouldn't be a destination restaurant for us were we back in Ketchum. THIS N THAT: 1) TIMING: Is everything, as they say. For opportunity to stay here at a slightly reduced rate, look for that sweet spot in weather that starts mid to late October which is a tourist shoulder season in Ketchum (after the Running of the Sheep) and extends to before the winter tourists arrive. Call the desk directly and see what specials they can provide. Be aware that some reservations are prepaid and are non refundable. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: Parking is a challenge if you need accessible parking. One spot near the door but as I recall not van accessible. Very clean, very nice and helpful folks, food was way above average, room was exceptional! A class act hotel! Took a road trip to Sun Valley on a whim. Made no plans to stay. The town(s) (Sun Valley and Ketchum) were still under COVID constraints so most hotels were closed. Knob Hill was open but with 1 room left. Of course, it was their $290+ suite. But the young ladies checking folks in offered to give us the 65+ rate and a voucher for their excellent restaurant, because I was such a nice old guy. Seriously, they were accommodating and nice, given it was 6pm and we were not going to find a room anywhere else, they could have stuck with their rack rate and I would have been required to pay it or sleep in the car. My wife wasn't likely to want to sleep in the car. These are just quality folks, managing a quality hotel with a quality restaurant in a gorgeous location (Teton Mountain view). The bed was top of the line, room was quiet and modern. Cleanliness was a 10+. A classy place we will return to. read more

The staff referred us to Maria, the local awesome dog walker, and when we left, she was a new family member of our family!. This hotel offered a hot and delicious breakfast, that was included. This is one of the most beautiful and accommodating hotels I have ever stayed in! We truly could not have asked for anything more during our visit to Ketchum/Sun Valley! The hotel is situated in the downtown Ketchum area and is very easy to get to! Its location also makes it super convenient to walk to places instead of having to worry with driving/parking! Every staff member we encountered during our stay was more than welcoming, helpful, and polite. They answered all our questions, fulfilled any requests, and were more than willing to arrange transportation using their complementary shuttle service, which was very helpful when traveling from the hotel to the wedding we were attending one evening. The room was amazing to say the least! It was a spacious room with very comfortable furniture! The room also had access to an outdoor porch/balcony that had an absolute breath-taking view! Tip: they have rollaway beds upon request, and it was no less comfortable than the room's bed!...which was great because I did not have high hopes for a rollaway :) The bathroom setup is something that particularly stands out, as all parts are arranged separately. The sink area has a spacious countertop with great lighting; the toilet is situated behind its own door; the walk-in shower and tub are behind yet another door. The sink/countertop area was large enough so that two of us could get ready (hair, makeup, etc.) at the same time without bumping into each other! Not to mention, the walk-in shower was very roomy and comfortable! The room also had a very large and spacious closet situated among the bathroom area that had full mirror sliding doors. This was great to hang our dress clothes in and use the mirrors while getting ready for our event! The complementary breakfast was one of the "selling points" when choosing to stay at the Knob Hill Inn....and wow! It did not disappoint! There were so many options, and everything was yummy! From Chobani yogurt, to smoked salmon, to the always faithful bacon and sausage, there was something for everyone! It also appeared that they have daily "breakfast specials" in order to mix things up from day to day! I cannot speak from experience because we did not get the chance to take advantage of this, but the hotel also has a spacious lobby area with a bar and restaurant. The restaurant appeared to have both indoor seating and outdoor patio seating. Lastly, the facilities the hotel offers are great, as well! They have a pool, hot tub, and sauna on-site. Something that stood out to me while checking out this area was the accessibility opportunity they provide; there was a sign explaining that the automatic pool lift could be utilized upon request for individuals who require assistance entering and exiting the pool. Additionally, they have complementary access to the YMCA in Ketchum for people looking to workout during their stay. Overall, there is absolutely nothing I wanted that this hotel did not have or answer to! If you are looking for a place to stay in the Ketchum/Sun Valley, ID area, absolutely look no further! 10/10, would recommend! read more

Knob Hill Inn is fabulous!!! We stayed for 3 nights over Christmas and had such a magical experience. The staff treated us as if we were staying in their home. Our room was cozy and romantic with a wood burning fireplace and holiday garland on the mantle. Our north facing balcony was a place to view the falling snow and catch a glimpse of an elk herd. The property is dog friendly and allowed us to bring our 4 month old Labrador puppy...they provided dog bowls and treats in our room, and even gave us a handwritten card and gift for our pup on our last night. Thank you to Reagan, Josh, Grace, Lorenza, and Byron (Ringo!) and all the rest of the staff who made us feel like family. We can't wait for our next visit! read more

My wife and I were so looking forward to staying at Knob Hill Inn and skiing Sun Valley a few years ago but I got hurt in a biking accident and couldn't return to skiing until late 2020-2021 season. We had paid in advance for 2 nights and the General Manger was nice enough to agree to allow us to use the 2 nights anytime in the future (in a letter). I recently went to re-book our stay and the current General Manager refused to honor the prior General Manger's commitment to us! BAD FORM. Great first stay at Knob Hill Inn! The fireplace rooms have an actual wood burning fireplace, which I have rarely seen and really enjoy! The rooms are spacious and great (only room for upgrade IMO is hard surface floors instead of carpet). The bathroom has a soaking tub and separate shower and L'Occitane toiletries. The hotel is right next to a graveyard (a famous one though with a very notable figure's resting place (bring an offering of alcohol for tradition)), just FYI if that freaks you out. The restaurant and bar are also fantastic as is the complimentary breakfast! I would certainly return in future visits! read more

The things I liked: - the mattress and pillows were very comfortable and the bed linens were nice. The bedroom was nice as well. - the buffet breakfast was very nice. Lots of food options and staff on hand to provide freshly cooked eggs, cooked to your liking. They don't have Mimosas or Bloody Mary's though. - they have a free shuttle that will drop you off and pick you up. - the staff was friendly and helpful during our stay. - I hear the restaurant is nice but we never ate there. What I didn't like: The hotel has been renovated but they took short cuts. The bathrooms and mini bar are dingy. The bathroom linens felt like towels you would use to clean with. The lobby is small and the bar is only open in the evenings and closes at 10. My visit was four weeks ago. My friend and I just received emails today saying they audited their bar receipts for the month and noticed they forgot to bill us for a bar tab. They supplied no detail to what they were charging us for. At a minimum, they should have provided us with a detail of what was missed and let us contest it before charging us. If they had high customer service standards they wouldn't have charged us at all since it was their mistake and it was caught 4 weeks after our visit. read more

This stay was our first. Overall, the HOTEL is great (continental breakfast is a joke, though - not to be missed - the limp, flabby bacon), but the pet fees are getting out of control. We thought it was $50/stay. It's actually $50 per pet, PER NIGHT. They don't even change the sheets every day (unless you specifically ask them to, which we didn't/don't), so this seems almost hostile. Use common sense when assessing pet fees! Two hairy golden retrievers MIGHT be worth charging $50/dog/night, but the 10lb chihuahua we rescued does not merit $100 for a two-night stay. You might as well be saying "don't come back". If we had stayed for a full week, that'd have been $350!!!! That's insane! The cleaners already have to clean the room/vacuum it, wash the sheets, etc so what's the pet fee even for in the first place? Are the cleaners vacuuming "extra hard"? Come on! I understand if a dog wets a bed or pees on the carpet and there is damage, which would fall under the normal clause that "you damage it, you pay for it". CHILDREN make a bigger mess of a room on average than a dog does, yet they stay "for free". As for "The Grill" restaurant downstairs, the food is GREAT. Period. However, Kasey (hostess/manager) acted like my wife and I were inconveniencing her BOTH times we came to eat. Very frustrating to come to Sun Valley for the first time in 8 years and be treated like a nuisance when we're trying to have a nice time. Our server on the first night (Frank) was "fine", but frequently trailed off his conversation with us, while walking away from our table. Multiple times. He was attentive and got the job done, but between him not being engaged with us, and Kasey's attitude when I first walked in, the experience left something to be desired. We still tipped Frank well, but more out of pity than because he truly earned it. The next evening we came in for drinks. We sat in the lounge off the entry and started looking at the menu and Kasey's greeting was "can I help you?"...again, as if we were an inconvenience. Well, crap, what do you think we're sitting in your lounge for, menu-in-hand? YES, you can help us by being friendly and asking what we'd like to drink, not questioning our existence in your lounge like we're bums off the street* ESPECIALLY when the bar/restaurant is basically empty (one 4-top and A guy at the bar) - note that we don't/didn't even look like ski/climber bums, we are/were well dressed. What's so hard about saying something like: "Hi, guys! Nice to see you, again! How was your meal last night? What can I get you to drink? Did you do anything fun in town today? Need any tips or suggestions on what to see or do?" Ok, ok, perhaps not everyone has that much pep and zest, but that's the kind of engaging, welcoming behavior that makes people enjoy their time and want to return. She didn't even TRY to be welcoming, and that's what turned us off. We'll be back to Knob Hill someday, but in about a decade and a half, when our dog is no longer with us. read more

My husband & I traveled for 21/2 weeks visiting National parks in Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, Montana & decided to come to Ketchum/Sun Valley as we had never been. After many hours of checking out the hotels online we decided on Knob Hill Inn so I called to make the reservation speaking to Tilly who confirmed our date was available & booked the reservation. She was so upbeat explaining all of the amenities & emailed the confirmation immediately. We arrived at the hotel in a beautiful, convenient location to town, greeted by Tilly at check in & we were upgraded to a larger room. When you enter the room there are large hooks to hang your coats etc. a beautifully decorated king bedroom with sitting area, large desk & balcony. The large Marble bathroom with a separate sink area (large countertop), toilet behind a door, large separate stall shower with wonderful hair & body products & a large separate bath tub with bath salts also behind a door enhanced the large bedroom. Across the sink area was a mirrored double sliding door closet with robes & slippers. We had only planned on staying for a night but decided to stay a 2nd night to enjoy the area & the hotel. We were tired from traveling so we had dinner at the Grill downstairs which was outstanding. The menu was very diversified, the food was delicious & the service was great. The next morning we went down for the complimentary breakfast & Bailey greeted & showed us to our table giving us a lovely menu where you choose your items and within a few minutes our breakfast was served. We then set out for the day checking out downtown Ketchum & Sun Valley which is breathtakingly beautiful, serene, gorgeous homes & wonderfully friendly people. We had lunch in town which was terrific then after shopping we headed back to the hotel where we decided to try the cozy bar before eating at the Grill again. All of the employees of the hotel work together as a team which only adds to the incredible ambiance of this 5 star property. Finally, the morning of checkout we had breakfast downstairs & this time Todd took care of us. He has worked at the hotel for years so he was able to share so much history of the property & surroundings. He was so kind as to offer to take our luggage to the car after working the breakfast shift. The entire stay was by far the best hotel stay in many years because of the service of everyone at the hotel. The final gift at checkout was a box of a decadent chocolates which I immediately ate... We will definitely be back to enjoy the summer weather & this incredible hotel next year. Thank you, thank you!!! read more

I use to love going to Knob Hill Restaurant. I had the worst visit and probably won't visit again. The menu is very limited, the food wasn't good... Both my husband and I have traveled most of our working lives. This hotel is rated A+ on our list. We managed to snag the king deluxe room with the fireplace. Maybe all of the rooms are not this nice, but this one is superb. Besides the fireplace and the king bed , there is a couch, comfortable easy chair, desk and a bathroom with three separate rooms! Also, there are so many lights (ceiling, table, floor, that you can read anywhere) It has a deck with a knock-out view of the mountains. It also has double closets, ceiling fan, and just about any amenity that you can name, including wine glasses, an opener, and crystals for a bubble bath. The three room bathroom features a marble walk-in shower, a marble enclosed bath tub and a separate toilet room. The fixtures and hardware are very expensive (I know, because they are the same ones as in our house.) The room was so comfortable and huge, we wanted to just spend most of our time here. We came around Christmas time and the decorations are beautiful, including a roaring fire in the lobby (for those who don't have one in their room) and a full service restaurant. Breakfast is included with the hotel stay. In addition to the regular all service breakfast, the staff custom makes your eggs any way you want them. The staff has gone out of their way to make our stay pleasant. For example, they provide "tablets" so you can read the paper at breakfast. When I asked for a "paper" newspaper, they told me the newspapers had not arrived but they would be happy to run down to the store and get me one. It was 2 degrees outside! Tonight, when one of the staff found out we could not find a parking spot out front, they took our keys, found our vehicle, and relocated it in front of the door, as soon as a restaurant customer left. Overall the staff was very friendly. The shuttle service was quick and convenient. Breakfast and onsite restaurant were great. The first 2 nights we stayed in a king with fireplace which was amazing. The only reason I deducted a star was that we moved to a studio because we decided to extend our stay and it was very drafty and the shower was horrible. Almost no water pressure. I would definitely recommend but make sure you upgrade to a king room or suite. read more

My husband and I stayed for a couple nights. We had a great time. From checking in to checking out! The staff was very helpful. Marie helped with all of our reservations. The lobby and bar are so nicely decorated, very modern. The room was nice and spacious. The bed and linens were very comfortable. The decor wasn't too elegant, but fine. The room shares a balcony with other rooms. We didn't have neighbors the night we stayed, but could see that being a problem if someone was out there while you were sleeping. The pool needed some serious updating, but I think that is their plan. We didn't use it. Nor the workout area. It needs a flat screen TV. It might be in their plan too, not sure. The morning breakfast was perfect! Delicious. Something hot every morning. The bar is very nice. We were able to watch some football and have a couple drinks. We had an appetizer, the calamari. It was good, the drinks better and such a nice local group of older folks that frequent the bar. Kind of cool to see some real locals happy to see one another. The food coming out of the restaurant looked amazing. Really. We had an appetizer, then left and went for dinner (wish we stayed), then back for dessert. After a 20 mile hile out from the Sawtooth Mountains with a 40 pound pack I needed a room in a bad way. Everything was booked in and aroudn Stanley so I headed to Ketchum about an hour south. I was able to get a room at Knob Hill. It was about 10P on a Thursday and I still hadnt eaten dinner. Randy, the Desk Manager, took it upon himself to call a local restaurant for me and I was able to pick up some carry out before they closed. Awesome customer service. The breakfast that was included was VERY GOOD. On the customer service level alone I would go back here and recommend to anyone. read more

My girlfriend took me to the Knob Hill Inn to celebrate my recent birthday. The hotel is quaint and has a cool vibe. The room had plentey of space, a great bathroom, and nice bed/linens. We had a first class experience at Knob Hill Inn and will certainly be returning! Came here for a weekend in February - high season in Sun Valley. Upon booking a representative contacted us asking if we needed anything prior to our stay. We mentioned we'd be coming into town early (8 am) and wondered if we could drop off our skis and luggage before hitting the slopes for the day. When we arrived, our room was ready and the receptionist even offered us to their custom breakfast that morning! A private shuttle was able to drop us off at the mountain for skiing, picked us up mid day to drive us to the other mountain, and picked us up! The rooms were beautiful and the beds very comfortable - one of the best hotel beds I've ever stayed in. All of the little touches in the room were very much appreciated from the luxury toiletries, to the Epsom salts for a bath after a long day on the slopes, to chocolates when you checked out thanking you for staying. The breakfast each morning comes with your stay and it is truly first class - made to order omelets, smoked salmon, fresh pastries, eggs Benedict, fresh squeezed juice... all included in the experience. Location is fabulous and walking distance from everything you could need in town! Highly recommend for a weekend away in Sun Valley and well worth the cost. read more

Wonderful!! We walked in to a plate of cookies and iced lemon water. At check-in we learned we had been upgraded to a fireplace room. The entire inn feels like it just got a makeover! The bathroom had a separate tub and shower, and vanity area outside. Every night staff will come turn down your sheets and give you a weather report for the next day and chocolates. The keurig was great to have in the room! We used the waters while we walked around town too. On some nights the restaurant is busy, others its not. We glanced at the room service menu, it surprisingly seemed the same cost as the restaurant. I was nervous about a continental breakfast, my husband is picky about that, but breakfast was great! Like having a personal chef. Every morning there was a vast array of the usual breads, muffins, fruit both whole and cut, granola, yogurt, cereal, and juice, there was also a pancake making machine, bacon, sausage or potatoes and eggs, either quiches or omelets. The staff was very helpful. They gave us a tour, found a trail for us and made copies out of their hiking book, and are willing to answer any questions. At checkout we were offered water for the road and got a box of chocolates. I will recommend the Knob Hill Inn to anyone going to Sun Valley. You feel like their special guest. read more

We took a couples, weekend, getaway trip to Sun Valley from Seattle this past winter. We stayed the majority of our trip in a vacation rental but were placed into a serious bind over President's day weekend when our flight home was cancelled. We needed a place to stay on almost no notice. We found the Knob Hill Inn and couldn't have been more impressed. The hotel was phenomenal, the rooms spotless, the amenities all very luxurious. What was more impressive though was the caliber of the staff. They took care of us like family. The on-site manager, Andrew listened to our issues and bent over backwards to make sure our day of misfortune turned into one of the best of the entire trip. I can't recommend the place enough.
