Just celebrating their first year at this location, The Midnight Oil oozes a nice place to slow down and enjoy book shopping, one of my favorite vices. Pablo was the primary staffer on this day, and he could not have been a better host. Full of bookstore information, humor, guidance about Greeley, and a pleasant personality. There are all sorts of sitting and browsing options, and I love their back room of those interesting banned books that some have decided to make their focus. It is filled with humor and sarcasm. The decor is simple but terrific, and the best element of it is the hundreds of books surrounding girders located within the central area of the store, a brilliant decorative move that lures you into the store and is such a spot-on feature.

My personal favorite section was the horror area with such a beautifully curated display! I also really enjoyed the Colorado section too with so much material on the many trails, hikes, foliage, foraging, etc... this was so enjoyable! These are books wrapped in brown paper, with a few descriptors on the front, and a quotation from the book along the spine. These books are not for sale per say, but you can make a donation to a rotating charity (when I was there it was for an organization that supported farm education for youth). I was introduced to this shop by my college-age son, who brought home a whole stack of these mystery books at Christmas and each of us got to pick one on Christmas morning (based on nothing but the descriptors and quotation). It was really delightful for our bibliophile family. If I were a FoCo local, I fear I would be in here on a very regular basis.
