TICOR TITLE HATES U.S. VETERANS AND MILITARY MEMBERS…read more Our experience with Ticor Title was one of the most dehumanizing and frustrating experiences we have ever had with a professional service. From day one of closing (using a VA home loan), communication was poor and accountability was nonexistent. A CRITICAL error occurred during our transaction involving the payment of our homeowner's insurance premium. The payment was sent incorrectly, which ultimately resulted in our insurance policy being flat cancelled and left us uninsured when a major home flood occurred shortly after closing. We did not have home insurance at all, even though the money came out of our accounts. As a result, we are now thousands of dollars in the hole with a torn apart home. Instead of acknowledging the seriousness of this situation or showing even a small amount of empathy, Ticor immediately went into full denial mode. In their formal response to our complaint, they simply stated they "followed written escrow instructions" and denied any responsibility for the outcome. What makes this even more concerning is that internal communication from Ticor appears to contradict their position. In an email exchange with our new insurance agent, a Ticor escrow operations manager wrote: "It (the insurance premium from escrow) should come from us, just like it should have come in the beginning." Despite this, ticor has continued to deflect completely and refuses to show us any human emotion or explanation. Not a single person at Ticor ever offered an apology or expressed any sympathy for the financial and emotional stress this situation caused. What would have happened had the home burned down? Buying a home is one of the biggest and most vulnerable moments in a person's life. When mistakes happen, basic professionalism would at least involve compassion and a willingness to help resolve the situation- especially for an active duty and retired military family. Instead, we were treated like liabilities rather than clients. The complete lack of accountability, empathy, and customer care we experienced was deeply dehumanizing. We strongly caution anyone considering Ticor Title to think carefully before trusting them with something as important as a home purchase.

The people who answer the phone at American Family are very nice, and the insurance agent I consulted with (Adrian Birdeno) took my calls whenever possible or returned them promptly. I must have had a dozen conversations with him, and each time he was generous with his time and explained various kinds of coverage in plain language. He's also good at explaining how insurance companies view certain situations if you're new to the world of insurance. I was in the process of applying for my first home loan, so everything was new to me, but if you're in the market for homeowner's or rental insurance, Adrian will put together a great package at very competitive rates without selling insurance that you don't need. Even though I'm new to real estate, I do a lot of reading (Nolo Press books) and spend a good amount of time comparing prices. American Family seemed to offer the most coverage for the lowest price.
