Large paper platters of smoked meats (delicious chicken, lip-smacking ribs, so-so brisket) were delivered--much more than I could eat. Live music was great, but the two bands playing simultaneously (one on either side of us) made conversation nearly impossible. Nice staff. Friendly folks, but we won't be back.

If you hit a bad shot, with it being so wide open, most people can get back on track pretty easily. The big plus to this course is that you can spank that little white ball and it will fly at this altitude! It can really help boost your ego! Brought my relatives here and they loved this little course. My little nephew really loved how far he could hit his golf balls! That was worth it's weight in gold! Now the course is north west of downtown Monte Vista and is a little tough to find, but much easer to use your GPS off of you smart phone. Fun little course!

Beaver Creek is dedicated to promoting Christian Education, recreation, and social welfare of youth and adults regardless of race or disability and is open to all denominations. I stayed here recently as part of an Earthwatch Expedition titled: Geology and the Landscaping of the American Southwest. We were treated as honoured guests by Jen and Ernie and I came away very impressed, and thinking that their summer camp might be a good experience for my son. The food was plentiful and amazingly good, and our stay in the all-season Berkstresser Lodge was almost luxurious by summer camp standards. The bunk beds (with foam mattress) were comfortable and having a nice hot shower at the end of a long work day was a welcome treat. There's also a catering kitchen, laundry machines, decent conference room space, and if you're lucky a sweet "guard" dog named Tigger. I also enjoyed admiring Fall's yellow Aspens, watching the stars at night, hearing the coyotes during our sleep, appreciated that coffee was available at 6 AM, and welcomed occasional Internet access. However, when you're out here in G-d's country, what's the point of wi-fi? I would highly recommend the Beaver Creek Youth Camp for your next group function. For this Earthwatch group, this facility met and exceeded our expectations. The grounds are also spacious, pretty, relaxing, and maybe just the thing you need to put your life's work into perspective.

The High Dune Trail on First Ridge is probably the most popular trail in Great Sand Dunes National…read morePark. The first dune you reach from the main parking lot, it's definitely not the tallest dune in the park but it leads to beautiful views of GSDNP. There are no trail markers for this hike - you'll cross the Medrano creek bed after leaving the parking lot and then follow the dunes and make your own way. Hiking in sand is definitely a more difficult experience, so do yourself a favor and take the shortest route to the top. While the trail is "technically" to the top of the dune, you can do some exploring at the top to get different views. And let me tell you, it is 100% worth it because it is so incredibly gorgeous from the top. This hike can get more intensive than you think - some of these hills are steep with the sand deep. There is absolutely zero shade cover, so you will be hiking in direct sunlight - wear a hat and plenty of sunscreen. On the same note, the sand can get INCREDIBLY HOT, so make sure to wear good hiking shoes to protect your feet. And pack a lot of water and snacks (remember, pack in, pack out!). We took about 3 hours for our full hike, but it will also depend on how many breaks you take and how equipped you are to hike in sand. These are the same dunes you'll see people sand-boarding and sand-sledding on. If you have the chance, rent a board and take part. It's a lot of fun! Overall, a great hike to introduce you to the sand dunes of the park. While there are some longer hikes that take you to taller dunes, we only had about 6 hours to spend in the park, and we also wanted to go sand-sledding. Super happy with this hike, the experiences, and the wonderful views of the park it gave us. Highly recommend!

I was encouraged to send my son here and enthusiastic about doing so. Getting him out of his…read moreelement and introducing him to a different crowd seemed like a great idea and he hasn't been at a horse camp in a few years. I also thought a Bible based camp would be great for him and the ethics would be instrumental for his learning about Godly principles. Unfortunately, he reached out to me soon after arriving reporting being mistreated by other kids there. I reached out to the director who took 14 hours to get back to me. While on the phone with him one evening I heard a kid tell him not to look at him. For a Christian camp, this is extremely disappointing as I was hoping to introduce him to Christian fellowship , not bullies. Furthermore he was totally ignored by the other members otherwise unless spoken to and when he replied they would repeat everything he said in order to mock him and further isolate him. I didn't find this part out until I brought him home however. Until then he tried to put in a confident front and tough it out. He spoke to one friendly kid and the other kids told him not to. He didn't listen. After 2 nights there I decided to pick him up early and I'm glad I did. It was worse than I thought. I asked for him to be ready at noon but he wasn't. I helped him pack his tent to discover urine on it and under it. Even when signing him out, no paperwork or ID was required. When I checked him out and brought this to the attention of the director, she immediately began speaking to my son instead of me and said it was water, that it couldn't be urine. I told her she needed to speak with me. I had urine all over my hands. I am very clear on what urine is and smells like. I felt as though she preferred to talk to him because he would be easier to get to say what she wanted to and be non confrontational even if that meant not being honest about his experience. He had done this there before. He was really embarrassed about how he was treated. Even when he was asked why he was leaving he was made to feel like it was his fault because he was "letting his emotions control him". I was told the "club kids would never" do something like that. So apparently I or my kid must be lying? What would I or he get out if that? I didn't ask for anything but I did pay for camp and he didn't finish it. All kids do dumb things and make mistakes. Adults do too. To suggest one group doesn't because they're associated with your organization is ridiculous. I am extremely dishearten and discouraged by my sons and my experience here. I help market locally and have for camps that are associated with this one. I will be doing research to make sure I no longer doing so for and camps that are going to this location or affiliated with the director Shelby whom I dealt with. I'm not comfortable sending kids there. Not if there's a chance any kids go through what mine did. Even if kids are taught it's ok to treat others this way. I'd be livid if I found out my child was involved in treating someone this way and the camp covered it up instead of holding them accountable. It's seriously the absolute opposite reason we send our kids there. According to Shelby, the boys said they missed my son and they didn't do it. As far as I'm concerned my son has learned a good lesson on how it feels to be treated badly and why it's so important to truly treat everyone well always and what loving your neighbor really is about.

Then a small group of boys about their age came over and started doing their thing... neighborhood kids. Lol. My girls didn't want to hang out with them. It has some really nice features for beginners. Restrooms nearby. Picnic tables and shade trees too. Get off your devices and go here now kids.
