When I was looking for reasonable accommodations for family and friends to stay on Maui for my Hawaiian wedding, I checked out several condominiums in the Kihei area. From all the reviews I read on various sites, Koa Lagoon was the best choice. After talking with Linda, the on-site manager, I was sold. My family, friends and I booked several rooms, including two bedroom and one bedroom suites. Everyone was impressed and very satisfied. I stayed in a two bedroom suite, room 304. We arrived late, and our key was left in a lock-box on the door. I must admit that the Koa Lagoon is not much to look at from the outside (kind of reminded me of a college dorm) but the inside (and the lanai) more than made up for that. The condo is right on the ocean, and each room has a lanai with an ocean view. Our two bedroom had one master bedroom with a king sized bed and a private bathroom, and the second bedroom had two twin beds and a bathroom across the hall. The beds were comfy and there were extra linens in the closet. The bathrooms were fully stocked with several sets of towels. The condos are fully stocked with everything you might need and things you didn't realize you needed, but end up using. We were pleased to find boogie boards, large beach towels, beach blankets, shade tents, a beach umbrella, a cooler, grill utensils, and everything you might need in the kitchen, except the food. Our group saved a lot of money by cooking in and grilling as we purchased most of our groceries at the Safeway nearby. The condos each have a washer and dryer and this was a huge benefit. We didn't have to return home with dirty laundry, and were able to do all our laundry for free in our own rooms, rather than lug them to a laundromat or community laundry room. They provided us with laundry detergent as well as dishwasher detergent, but we ended up getting more mid-trip to replace their stock. The ocean view is amazing, and actually, this condo sits in a great spot. We watched whales from our balcony daily, and also noticed some things that kept popping out of the water, but from our room, we couldn't tell what they were. Unfortunately, we didn't find out until our second to last day that the beach directly south of the Koa Lagoon (a two minute walk) is a turtle nesting area. What we had been seeing were sea turtles. It ended up being a great area to snorkel, and is fully protected by the reef. It is also a great spot for wading if you aren't that big in to snorkeling. There is an in-ground pool on the property also, and we used this frequently after we had finished our beach hopping for the day. Most of the people by the pool were residents, or long time guests, and it was never crowded. We had several people tell us they spend months there each year, and one woman even offered to let us borrow her kayak to go out to see the whales. We watched her kayak out right near whales the day before. Amazing. The Koa Lagoon is centrally located and is close to a lot of great restaurants & beaches. It's not in the heavy touristy area (that's a few minutes further down on S Kihei Road) and this was really nice. We always felt like we were alone in our condo complex, and rarely saw other people. It was great, because we used the grill every night and never had to wait around for it. I will definitely be headed back to the Koa Lagoon for my next Maui trip. Now that I have stayed there, I wouldn't stay anywhere else. The value, location, management, and added comforts were beyond what I expected and I couldn't be more pleased that this is where we stayed :) read more

Ocean view, actually all the rooms have an ocean view, large rooms, air conditioned, fully stocked with everything you can think of except food. Nicely decorated, clean and cozy. This place is awesome. It has everything you could ever need. My fiancé and I stayed in unit 605 for 10 days. We didn't want to leave. The condo was super clean and had everything you could need. Large windows/slider that take you out to the balcony with unobtrusive views. Has beach towels, beach chairs, laundry, kitchen utensils, etc. Condo is right on the water with a small little beach. You can swim there, but sand is a little rocky. Pool is warm and is private. We were at the pool almost everyday and either had it to ourselves or shared with just 2-3 people. We loved how quiet the property was and there were no kids running around when we were there, which was super nice. We will be back again! read more

My parents, fiance and I stayed here during our recent trip to Maui. For $210/night during the holiday season, when everyone has jacked up room prices, this was about as cheap, if not cheaper, than 2 bare bones motel rooms, and much nicer. We had unit # 501, which was a 2-bed, 2-bath condo with a stunning view of the ocean (see pics). I have paid to have an ocean view before and have always been disappointed to have a view that has a sliver of ocean and a lot of non-ocean. But this view was truly spectacular - our lanai faced the ocean with nothing in between us except palm trees and we were only a couple hundred feet back from the ocean. All we could see off our lanai was the ocean, beach, palm trees, and West Maui (and to the very far side, another hotel). The condo itself looked exactly as it did in the pictures online and we were very happy with it. There were comfy couches in the living room, with a TV, a nice dining room table & a well-equipped kitchen, a washer-dryer (with some detergent), and closets filled with towels and other accessories. The bedrooms both had TVs as well, and lots of closet space. Overall, it was a great place to spend a week and we were very comfortable. The manager, Linda, was incredibly easy to work with. She always responded very promptly to our e-mails & gave us very clear directions how to get into the condo when we arrived after hours. She also gave my parents a late check-out, since they had a night flight, which was really nice of her. Kihei is a great place to be, in my biased opinion - it felt like we had very easy access to good snorkeling beaches in South Maui while still being reasonably close to Lahaina and West Maui. It's also a very quick trip to Kahului and Paia, and a reasonable drive up Haleakala. The condo is well-located within Kihei, about a mile from the Safeway and other shopping but a little removed from the "downtown Kihei" crowds. About the only downsides to this place I can see are that the internet is wired, not wireless, and there is one jack. With 4 people this could be a bit frustrating at times, but then again, we didn't really come to Hawaii so we could spend all our time on the internet. The other downside is that the beach directly in front of the condo is not a super great swimming beach (although I did see people swimming in it, so you may be able to). There's also a pool at the condo, and the Kamaole Beaches, which are nice swimming beaches, are just a couple miles away. Overall, I would highly recommend Koa Lagoon to families looking to stay in a really nice place in Maui without spending a fortune. read more

Wonderful location, central to many island attractions. All oceanfront condos with private lanais. We were there in April and we could watch whales in the channel right from our room! Reasonable rates are always welcome while on vacation. What else could you ask for while in paradise? There is a large grass area between the condo and the beach, perfect for kids or as we did, have our wedding ceremony. The on-site manager, Linda, is a real sweetheart and very helpful. We stayed at the Koa Lagoon for two weeks! It was great. Condo 207 was just perfect for a couple with two kids as they have two twin beds in one of the rooms. The condo was clean and pretty much everything we needed was there, washer, dryer, coffee machine, cooler, utensils, dishes, dish washing machine etc... Plenty of towels and linens. The grounds were awesome, we even got married there. Linda the manager is very sweet and even gave us a late check-out as our fly was not until 9pm. The only thing is that their is not much of a beach and is not that great for swimming, I did see many locals fishing there. There is a lot of seaweed but every morning around 8am they clean and scrap it off. I would most definitely go back there as it will always be a special place to my husband and I. read more

Stayed in #515. Property Pro - Good location. Unit has elevator. Parking is close to unit. Huge back lawn if you want to hang out. Con - pool hours are too little. Didn't get to use the pool so no comment. Unit - very clean. It practically had plenty such as kitchen supplies such as pot and pans for cooking and baking although we didn't bake. It also has plenty other amenities so our 2 weeks stay felt almost like home so my son and i were happy. Nice bedroom furniture and upgraded kitchen. Bedroom also has AC. Very strong AC in dinning area. Beautiful ocean view and good size balcony with table and chairs. Con - too limited for bathroom and kitchen supplies so I had to buy paper towels, trash bags and toilet papers. Really? Living room light was too dimmed and it should be as bright as the hall way. read more

This was the first time we stayed at Koa Lagoon #503. We normally stay at Lahaina Shores in Lahaina. I was disappointed with the unit we rented. The bathroom has a pedestal sink and no cabinets or storage area. There were no counters to hold our bathroom toiletries. The air conditioner leaked all over the patio The air conditioner did not cool off the main living room. The sliding door to the patio got stuck alot, and 2 days before we left the sliding door broke and wouldn't open. When we called Linda about some of the problems her attitude was not very friendly I would never stay in this unit again. Lahaina Shores is a much classier resort! read more

Koa Lagoon is my favorite condo in Maui!!! These are the reasons why: it is clean, has ample room, ocean front view, big, big, lanai...It is much better than a hotel. You have privacy and proximity to many good places to eat. In the beginning I stayed at many other condos before I found the jewel of Kihei -Koa Lagoon!! I only stay at this condo!! It is superb!!! Just for the ocean view hotels charge you extra!! By the way, the Linda Barron who coordinates the rentals is great! In one of ny many visits, I forgot to bring the information on how to access the keys for my condo. It was after hrs and late in the evening but Linda was accomodating and got me in the condo..she was so helpful!! I cannot say enough about this condo..you will not regret it!! My wife, daughter and her fiance spent a week in Maui and rather than rent two hotel rooms I thought it would be better to stay in an apartment in a condo. I was very happy with this choice. Our room (501) had two bedrooms, one somewhat larger than the other and with a king-size bed, a good kitchen area and living room, two bathrooms, and a lanai with a spectacular view of the beach (which, unfortunately, was not really good for swimming, but there were swimming beaches nearby). The four of us stayed there for a week and never felt crowded. The location, particularly if you have a rental car like we did, was ideal: not too far from most major sightseeing attractions like Lahaina, Mt Haleakalah, Paia and the Hana road, and a short drive from some excellent snorkeling beaches. The condo is also walking distance from a shopping center, several large supermarkets, and fast food restaurants. Management was very accommodating and helpful: Linda, the manager, promptly answered email questions and gave us a late checkout because our flight was not until late at night. (Obviously this would depend on the needs of the condo at the time, of course.) I cannot recommend Koa Lagoon highly enough. read more
