We've been coming here for years, for all celebrations and we love this place. However, I'm a server and I'm very put off by the experience we had tonight. We were charged a gratuity charge on our bill and were not notified and then asked to tip more with a note that said additional tip would be split with the cooks. I asked if the included gratuity charge went towards the server and they responded with "not really" the cooks get "most of it" and anything additional tipped would then go to the server... so we were charged $30 in included gratuity on our $170 bill... not notified... bill was $220...my dad paid, then expected to tip another 20% on top of that. The staff ended up with a $70 tip because they told us that the included gratuity would not go toward the server and we did not want to leave the server with no tip. We're very discouraged and our family will likely not return.

    Steak and shrimp hibachi

First time at this hibachi and we made a reservation for 6. We showed up right on time and we were sat at the hibachi. The waitress came to our table immediately and took our drink order. When she came back we ordered an appetizer and I had the free coupon from the Yelp app and the waitress said she would take it off and never did. The chef was good and entertained us well. We each had a different meat or fish on the grill. We had 2 birthdays and they made a nice birthday celebration for them! The drinks were very good as well and the ambiance was loud as normal for a hibachi.

KOBE IS THE BEST. Kobe is by far my most favorite restaurant of all time. The service is amazing, the food is TOP TEIR. I can go on about this place for hours. The environment is so fun and a great experience for all ages. To make this place even better, my fiance took us here for Valentine's day and they gave out the cutest key chains!! I seriously love Kobe so much and would eat this place every day if I could. (I'm probably their #1 fan and they don't even know me)

There's plenty of seating and an entrance both on the street side and the parking lot side (ordering is by the parking lot side). You can order at the counter, or from your table by using the QR code that is designated for your table. The menu is huge -- there are so many rolls (one reason to order from your table so you're not standing there staring at the menu). I ended up deciding on spring rolls (nice and crispy and tasty with the dual dipping sauces), salmon sashimi (buttery and fresh), Monkey Nut Roll (crabmeat, avocado, cucumber, eel sauce and peanuts), and the Firecracker Salmon roll (salmon, avocado, cucumber, spicy mayo, eel sauce, wasabi mayo, and scallions). Complete with a nice serving of wasabi and ginger. The Firecracker Salmon roll was amazing -- a deep fried roll, but the salmon was perfectly rare and melt-in-your-mouth good. Fortunately they have to-go trays as I couldn't finish it. I will definitely be back.

I loved the Cali cheester, blazing redbird, sweet potato with avocado and eel sauce and crunchy Cali rolls, but everything we tried was delicious. We'll definitely be back when we're in the area again. We might just have to make a special trip!

I think Kobe Revolving Sushi is the first and only revolving sushi spot in Bloomington/Normal…read more We're from Chicago, so we've been to similar places up by us, but our daughter goes to ISU, and we love sushi, so we've decided to give it a try. The place is very clean and contemporary. Very on brand for a place like this. It anchors the end of a strip mall, and is kind of tucked back out of the way, but it's a good sized space, and we dined on a Saturday night. It was full, but we only waited about 5 minutes for a booth. Our server did and great job of explaining how it all works, and even thought they don't bring you any food, she was right there for our drink refills, and was available if we had any questions about anything. So it's a fixed price for plates off the conveyor belt. $3.50/plate. This includes sushi, hot and cold appetizers and desserts. Just know that any plate, no matter what's on it, is $3.50. So whether you grab chucks of canned pineapple or a rainbow roll - it's $3.50. There's other items on the iPad you can order that have different price points, and if you miss something you wanted on the conveyor belt, and you don't want to wait for it to come back around, you can order it off the iPad and the cool little car will bring it right to your table. It's still $3.50 too. When you're done with your plates, you deposit them into a slot at the end of the table and it counts it and adds it to your bill on the iPad. Pretty easy. Every 12 plates your deposit allows you to play a 50/50 game on the iPad. We got to 12, but didn't win... which is fine. Sooooooo..... how about the food?!? Strip mall sushi is hit and miss. Especially in Chicago and surrounding burbs. There are some really great sushi places that are very unassuming. And there are others that are a "one and done". We've never had any other sushi in Bloomington/Normal, so we don't have much to compare this to. It was all very good. Often times at "gimmicky" places like this, you don't get the highest quality product because they are relying on the novelty to keep you coming back. Good news though, because the sushi at Kobe Revolving really does stand on its own. It's not the best sushi I've ever had, but it's very good - which is more than I expected when we walked in.

But that being said there were a lot of GREAT things about this restaurant so I'll start there. The restaurant itself it's so moody and vibey I LOVED it, was such a good place for a date night, our waiter was so attentive, helped with all of our questions and a very patient with us as we worked through the menu. 10/10 service! We got the dumpling and pork bun appetizer and both were AMAZING, seriously the pork bun?? I could have eaten 1000 of them. Next was the sushi, I got the Atlantic hand roll and another member of the table got the rainbow roll, both were very fresh and flavorful, highly recommend. Next was the entree, I got the pork belly ramen, as a huge ramen fanatic I was SO excited, especially following up our appetizers, the bar was set high and unfortunately I was so disappointed. The broth was not very good and everything so extremely salty, I couldn't even eat the mushrooms in the bowl because they soaked up so much of the broth and it was like a salt bomb in my mouth. The pork belly was cooked well and I did really enjoy that, but for a $20 bowl of ramen, it really fell flat for me. I also got the sweet heat cocktail, and it also wasn't for me, cocktails are so personal so it's not that I wouldn't recommend someone try it, it's just that I didn't hit for me, and that was the general consensus of the table. While I had a great night, I would probably try a different restaurant for Asian food before I came back to this one!

Review Visit: February 23rd, 2016…read more A strange mix of Taco Bell and your traditional Mexican restaurant. When it came to write this post for La Bamba, I had no idea how to tackle it. But, here we go! La Bamba was recommended by my friend Chad. He said he would go out of the way to stop there for some food while out doing family stuff. He said he had a lot of nostalgia for the place from his college days. With his recommendation and his hype, I decided to check it out while exploring Bloomington/Normal. It wasn't too hard to find due to the giant sign on the side of the building. My girlfriend wasn't hyped like I was because I always get excited to try a place that was recommended to me from a close friend. We headed in and were shocked at what La Bamba had inside. First off, the artwork on the walls was hilarious. I hope that was their intent because I couldn't help but chuckle at them as I stood awkwardly in the middle of the restaurant. You can see what I mean below. If they had some cultural or heritage meaning to them and they aren't mean to be funny, I do apologize for my laughing. After I got over that, I noticed there was a sushi bar. Now, of all the things I have been surprised by, this is up there. I'm not a fan of seafood so I was in no way tempted to even try the sushi bar. I am sure the food is good, but just not for me. I was here for some Mexican food. We both ended up ordering one of the combo meals. My choice was the mini burrito with rice, beans and a soda. My girlfriend ordered the cheese quesadilla that came with the same sides. My experience has taught me that a mini portion from a Mexican restaurant is still a massive amount of food and I hoped that La Bamba followed my previous experiences. We snagged a table and waited for our food to come out. So, did La Bamba live up to the hype? No, not in my opinion. The meal ran about $11 after tax and like I expected, the mini burrito was still more than enough to fill me up with the help of the heaping pile of sides. So, for your money, the amount of food is ridiculous. But why didn't it live up to the hype? Everything was dry or tasted like it sat in the warmer for a bit too long. From my experience when that happens, food tends to dry out and lose some of it's flourish, one could say. While it wasn't a struggle to choke down the mediocre food, it wasn't as pleasant as I was hoping. I do acknowledge that maybe we just got some old food as my girlfriend had the same issue with her sides that I had with my entire meal. Perhaps a future visit would yield different results, hopefully tastier than this visit. I could see how some drunk college kids would love this place. It's got some appeal to it that fills that void that being drunk brings with it. From the goofy art on the walls, the random sushi bar, the ability to customize Mexican food in a million combinations, there is some charm to the place. I just think I need to try it again during a busy time so the food is freshly prepared instead of sitting in a warmer all afternoon.
