I ordered a cashew chicken combination plate with pork fried rice, 1 egg roll, 1 crab Rangoon. The cashew chicken comes in a brown sauce and is delicious! My mom worked in these combo fast food Chinese restaurants for 20 years, so I've tried a whole lot in my life. China Star is on the blander side, but also less fatty/greasy than average. The egg rolls and fried cream cheese wontons are legit very good, definitely fresh. Would order a party platter of just those. The entrees lacked the bite of white pepper and undertone heat of red chillies. Chicken and beef were both tender, but needed flavor. Overall just a sanded down version of the full tastes I prefer. This can't be real food. The shrimp looked weird, the chicken fried rice was not real fried rice. It was yellow rice with carrots and peas lol. I took it back to my hotel, just minutes away. When I took it out of the bag, I was surprised to not find any utensils or sauce packets. Every other Chinese take out place I've been to has included them. However, that doesn't impact my review. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they were available to customers and I just missed them. The General's Chicken was just not good. I ordered it extra spicy, but there was absolutely no flavor. The eggroll was crispy, as expected, on the outside, but was slimy and nothing inside had any flavor either. My boyfriend got the generals. Personally,I loved it! Lots of asian cabbage,great flavor and nice portions. I used to live in the area where this particular place is located. Back then - it was great. Fast forward - something happened . . . it stopped being as good as it once was. What I did like is that you could get hot and sour soup to your liking on the heat side. Now - no. Almost every dish you'd get there would be tasty - now no. I will say that they have some of the best Moo Goo Gai Pan in town - but everything else I've gotten there has been sub-par (from what it used to be) Wait staff is nice (I now always get orders to go) I will say the pot stickers (fried dumplings) are addictive! and it's fast. This is our Chinese take-out restaurant of choice for lazy Sundays! The staff has been very friendly when we place an order over the phone and genuinely nice when we go in to pick it up. This is a rarity at any other takeout restaurant. The sesame and pineapple chicken actually consists of chicken and not just breading. Great flavor! One suggestion is to maybe offer coupons like your competitors. At least I have not seen any coupons as of yet. read more

One can often judge the quality of a Chinese restaurant, especially these cheaper places, by trying the fried rice - a corner stone of Chinese-American cuisine. Probably the worst chicken fried rice I have ever had, so its no wonder that the potions are so generous. The rice was a strange bright yellow color, and had a bizarre minty taste. If fried rice was prepared for interstellar travel with an industrial freeze drier, it would probably have a more distinctive flavor profile than what I received here.
