The Kobe team were friendly and the service was great. A good variety of food options and fast preparation. Particularly liked the Karage.

One thing going for this place is that it has much longer hours than the other eateries that keep…read moreshort operating hours in Hobart's central business district. That's maybe one of the only redeeming qualities. Enticed by the thought of a warm bowl of ramen to soothe my soul, I ordered a veggie ramen for take-away at this ramen-focused establishment. Once I got back to my hotel room, I nestled in to enjoy the warming bowl of broth and veggies but I was sorely disappointed to find that the taste of the soup was a little foul and the hard boiled eggs were of a strange color and consistency. After a few bites, I just couldn't eat anymore, concerned that the suspicious tasting food might actually make me ill. This full rejection of a meal rarely happens to me, especially with a fairly easy meal of ramen. I would not return to this place to try my luck again.

I don't know what happened, but we thought we were up for a nice bowl of ramen tonight. Looking at…read morethe menu it looked a bit funny, but we figured with the good reviews it might be one of those places that are actually surprisingly good. As we got the food, it looked a lot worse than the photos suggested, but still, you might be mistaken. Then we had a few bites, and actually all of the food tasted funky (not in a good way) and dodgy, as though it was last months batch. I had the duck, and my girlfriend had the fried chicken (only edible thing we had), and we mainly just left without eating. I hate giving bad reviews, but I simply can't remember the last time I had such a shit dinner. I hope they change their way soon!

We were…read morenear North Hobart, which has a ton of restaurants on Elizabeth Street, so we decided to try Midori Japanese Kitchen. We dropped in on a Thursday afternoon (around 1:30pm). Empty except for people that kept on coming in to get these sushi rolls from the counter. Not sure why they were so popular. All rice and not much real ingredients. There's a couple different menus. They have a ramen menu with four different bowls (oddly, all are at the same $15.80 AUD price point). The main menu is split into Japanese salad, chicken & pork, seafood, vegetarian, tempura, rice and udon noodles, set (bento boxes) and set menu options. You go up to the counter and order. There's tap water in the drinks display case (bottom row). Oddly, they don't give you any soy sauce for your rolls, nigiri or sashimi. - Sushi & sashimi set (#1) ($15.80 AUD) - assorted sushi rolls, nigiri and sashimi served with ginger and wasabi. There were two smoked salmon, two canned tuna and two chicken rolls. Smoked salmon was good; the other two were dry and bland. Desperately needed some soya sauce. Four nigiri (salmon, ebi, seaweed salad and tofu); decent. Sashimi consisted of five pieces of salmon. This was different as the salmon tasted saltier/brinier. You could taste that it was from the ocean. - Pork katsu set (#6) ($15.80 AUD) - pork katsu, seafood nuggets, garden salad and steamed rice. Seafood nuggets tasted like they were from a frozen, pre-packed box. Katsu was better but the meat was dry and needed more sauce. Garden salad was enjoyable. Merely average Japanese food. Nothing compared to what you get back in Vancouver.

This meal however came out looking delicious, but was in fact a bowl of regular instant noodles swimming in a large bowl of vaguely pork-tasting dish water. I personally scoured the restaurant for salt and chilli, in the hope of being able to taste something. I failed. The pickles on top were the highlight.
