A unique gem in Hobart and a regular stop for me and my colleagues when travelling from interstate! Our favourite breakfast is the Chilli Omelette which is served on rice with oyster sauce and a good serving of chilli and sambal. I haven't had anything like it elsewhere - don't make the mistake of adding extras to it though as it stands alone very well. Today I'm here for lunch and decided to try the Pony Poke Bowl - what a fresh surprise. This is delicious! A ball of rice surrounded by cubed fresh tuna, avocado, mushroom, cashews, Kim chi and ginger flavoured sweet potato (or similar). A new favourite lunch. Way to go RfaP. They make the coffee well, the service is friendly and efficient. If highly recommend giving Room for a Pony a try. read more

HEY! Why isn't anybody talking about the Pony yet? The Pony was definitely my favourite place to be in late 2014, and I reckon it'll remain around the top of my list in 2015. Room for a Pony opened in an old gas station space opposite the Republic back in November and I've been there half a dozen times since. Only that many? Man, I need to remedy that, because it's great. It's so great. The menu is exciting and delicious, from the breakfast options through the lunch options (all of them available all day). I'll recommend the fish fingers in particular, because I still think about that meal. The large coffees come in great shaped mugs. HOT: + SPLIT BILLS WITH EASE! + ALL DAY BREAKFAST! + AWESOME SEATING BOTH INDOORS AND OUTDOORS! + GREAT COFFEE! + ATTRACTIVE WAIT STAFF! Ok, enough shouting. Ive given this place 3 goes because the reviews are good and i thought i just had some bad luck. First time was for lunch. The waiter was rude , it took ages to get our food which ended up cold . They said not to go to bar they will take my drink order at table which was a big mistake because besides my first drink order with my food they never came back . Tried to get waiters attention but deliberately ignored us . The salt and pepper shakers were filthy with food stuck on them The table was sticky. The 2 nd time i went in for drinks with friends. Bar staff so rude and arrogant. Even though we ordered our drinks at the bar ( we were allowed this time ) and said our pleases and thankyous he just gave us a dirty look . He was more interested in talking to the guy in the kitchen than serving us. The 3 rd time i got a takeaway pizza .I had to step past a girl in the entrance way sitting in her own spew Tried to get the bar staff attention AGAIN . Got my pizza home it was disgusting so threw it out and made a toastie cheese instead. Wont be back read more

In town for a couple of days a mate and I were looking for a good brunch spot but Lo and behold we found one! The place is unpretentious and has a pretty good kit-out. The geometric detailed interior and climbing plant wall are simple but effective interiors, and the place which might have been a gas station previously has a lot of outdoor seating. The food menu is pretty short, breakfast and lunch is served all day and had some tried and true staples and some unexpected options. I'm sure the menu changes frequently, but I had the baked eggs with sweet corn polenta, eggplant pickle and sausage, my mate had the breakfast ramen, which looked absolutely fantastic! The coffee was pretty good for Tasmania (no shade) and the wait staff were babes. I'd go back if in a heart-beat. read more

Great little spot and good on a sunny morning or a cold one as the staff will provide you with a blanket if you still want to sit outside. The staff are friendly but not overbearing and the food is fresh and tasty. I recommend getting eggs and adding extras, you end up with a very generous breakfast. Enjoy! read more

Room for a Pony is delicious. I have come here twice in the last two days. My first visit I had the rice porridge which was good but not amazing. The second day I had the potato rosti, with poached eggs and pumpkin. It was absolutely delicious, I would definitely say I destroyed that meal. As well as good food, the staff are also very friendly and efficient. You can split bills which is also handy and you can bring you furry friend along if you're sitting outside. read more

I made the mistake of ordering the potato rosti with poached eggs, roast pumpkin and hollandaise sauce. At the table arrived a barely visible sliver of pumpkin under a tiny greasy no name brand potato cake(the sort from Woolies freezer section containing no discernable potato- just grease) two poached eggs that tasted of vinegar. I can only speak for the coffee here as we didn't have time for food. We walked up from the docks in Hobart and by the time we got here it was packed. Coffee took a little while to come out, but it was worth waiting for. It was great. Service people kept coming out and asking if we wanted to be put on a list for the wait to table which was nice. Looks like a hipster venue (old gas station) which we may revisit later in the year. read more

Disappointed after hype from friends. Food took forever. Of my two poached eggs, one was under-cooked with runny whites, the other was hard-boiled. Everything else was ok, but nothing stood out as being noteworthy. read more

Service was pretty slow. Menu looks good, but the food itself wasn't the greatest. Lots of strong flavours, leaving the three dishes we tried all quite unbalanced. Drinks were warm at best, one wrong order. Wouldn't recommend to friends with all the other good stuff around, but wouldn't complain if someone invited me again. read more

I went with my daughter for lunch at a Room for Pony just before Christmas. Both of us were looking forward to it. The food was tasteless. I had the corn beef and sauerkraut sandwich and my daughter the quinoa salad. Both dishes had no flavour and we left most of what was served. The service was very poor, the girl serving us showed no interest in us. The coffee was not served. Thank heavens for the barista. At least we got a decent coffee. Let me paint you a picture: it's a 27 degree day, I have been walking around Hobart for hours and decide I need to stop and get something to drink, room for a pony is a mere 10 metres away, my friends and I decide we will give it a go. After pondering the menu I decide a nice strawberry and banana smoothie would be nice and refreshing for my very dehydrated self. The smoothie arrived and looked alright, nothing too fancy. I suck on the paper straw (yay environment) and boy oh boy, what a jaw workout, when the smoothie finally got to my mouth I was shocked and confused and quite frankly disappointed. This smoothie.... Had the consistency... Of SLIME. I KID YOU NOT. It was incredibly thick and when I pulled the straw out and had a fiddle it STRETCHED. SMOOTHIES SHOULDN'T STRETCH. When it was in my mouth I couldn't even register the taste as I was distracted by how mucus-like it felt on my tongue and the roof of my mouth. Also whilst moving the straw around I noticed that there was something solid at the bottom of the cup, eventually I used my straws to fish them out and discovered three. Solid. Frozen. Strawberries. Floating around (or trying to in this ooblek like substance) I had two or three sips, paid $5 for this sad excuse for a smoothie, didn't say anything (because I'm afraid of confrontation) and went and got a maccas frozen coke to refresh myself.
