Hot Spot claims to be a coffee shop that serves food as well, but it is so much more than that. In addition to loads of really neat, antiques and artisan goods, they have an event space upstairs that preserve some of the fun and natural character of this really neat building. I didn't try any food this time, but the drink I had got me hooked. If not for the friendly service, the flavor of my salted honey maple latte will definitely bring me back.

Not sure if it was Tom behind the counter who helped me, but whoever it was was very kind and welcoming. I grabbed 3 blueberry donuts and one paczki (because it was Fat Tuesday and it felt like a crime it I didn't). My two boys and my husband devoured their donuts this AM and really liked them! They split the paczki btw the 3 of them and they thought it was delish. I always forget about Tom's but it is so close to our house, I need to make a point to remember to stop in more often. Love little hometown bakeries and Tom's fits that bill!

I didn't, mostly because there is a sign that says, "This is a sidewalk" which made me laugh. (Truly that should be an entrance into the parking lot!) The space is very bright and airy with cute decor and space to get some work or studying done. I was greeted right away when I walked in and I had a tough time deciding what to order. I wasn't hungry, but I love that they have a full on food menu - including salads, burgers(!!!), bagels, toasts, paninis, pastries, etc. Plus all the regular coffee items, boba, smoothies, and teas. I went with one of the seasonal specials, the banana bread matcha. It didn't take too long to come out and it was very tasty - not really what I was expecting, but I liked it. It reminded me of a very green banana (which is how I prefer bananas), it wasn't super sweet but also not super matcha-y. They sell whole beans or ground coffee, which is great for those of us who can't get into town as much as we'd like to pick up a coffee. They're a great additional to downtown Rockford, and I'm excited to watch them grow!

It's a certified B corp which means all their ingredients are sustainably and ethically sourced! That's a big plus! The place is so nicely designed with so many places to sit. Big beautiful windows let in lots of sun and natural light. I love sitting outside in the summer taking in the energy of downtown. You can tell this place really puts a lot of effort into caring and supporting their local community! This is the ideal local coffee shop.
