The staff also has a great knowledge of the contents of the store, and if you ask them a vague-ish question (i.e. Chinese objects/clothing for a cultural lesson on the Chinese New Year), they're able to point you in a very specific direction. Also, this is the location of the annual Galesburg Chocolate Festival. For less than the price of a movie ticket you can go in and sample basically chocolate anythings to your heart's content.

I've been a loyal Music Makers customer for several years. Owner Dave Plunk is truly a man of integrity and kindness. Here's one example: Last year, when I was hit out of the blue by a perfect storm of unforeseen expenditures, I found myself in a "too-much-month-at-the-end-of-the-money" situation. I brought in some equipment to sell and I was prepared to accept pretty much any cash offer. Dave paid me a surprisingly generous sum for the items - far more than I would have received from Guitar Center or a pawn shop - and I was able to make it to my next paycheck without having to sell my plasma to a blood bank. :) I stopped in today just to get picks and strings and, as usual, I ended up developing a torrid crush on one of the new guitars in stock - a Fender California Series Redondo Player acoustic-electric with a flashy metallic lime-colored finish (Fender calls it "Electric Jade") and mahogany neck. It had no price tag so, having recovered from last year's little fiscal crisis, I inquired about the cost. Dave quoted me a very reasonable price but quickly added that if I bought it today, he'd knock a hundred dollars off. "SOLD!" I said. It was just one more in the long list of satisfying experiences I've had at Music Makers. Though I had no doubt whatsoever that I had done quite well on the deal, out of curiosity, I checked to see how much internet retailers are charging for the same guitar. Musiciansfriend.com has a used one for sale, with some minor blemishes, and it's going for $20 more than Dave charged me for a brand new one! I wholeheartedly encourage anyone who is looking for musical instruments, live sound equipment or lessons to go to Music Makers. You'll be glad you did.

I brought my son to Shady Lakes for Labor Day and it was wonderful!! Between my friends and I, we…read morecaught nine fish. They were having a Labor Day special so each fish was $5.00. We seriously had the best time. My son is 6 so he doesn't have a whole lot of patience. We got there around 1pm but the fish didn't start biting until 3pm. We decided to make it a Labor Day tradition because we had so much fun. Right at about 3pm the fish started biting and biting. We actually had to stop because we started to catch too many. Everyone there was very nice. We did hear that it will be under new ownership starting in 2021 season. I would definitely recommend this place for kiddos. You don't even need a fishing license since it's a private business.

Fun to help others learn how to fish, bait their own hook (especially getting young girls into fishing). It was almost guaranteed you would catch something. I even caught a novelty golden trout here once. Beautiful lily pads and could hear the bullfrogs. But, at almost $0.70 an inch I can see where it could get a little pricey Like the old saying goes, "Teach a man to fish and you'll feed him for a lifetime". I guess they allow businesses to come in and do that often, which I think is really nice. My GPS was a little bit off so I'll be updating that but as soon as you cross the overpass it's the big white house on the left side of the street. I didn't realize that was it because I didn't realize it was a house. I went in December so it was a bit cold but we were specifically going to see the reindeer and I was excited! It was the cutest little place there were Christmas trees everywhere and people were having a great time. This business offers so many wonderful amenities, I was surprised at everything that they had to offer. There was a train for all ages that was safe and secure so nobody could fall out, a smaller garage like building where they were selling crafty items and doing some glitter face painting, a fire pit where you can sit down and warm up, a little trailer where they were selling hot cocoa and donuts, that was the cutest by the way! There was also a Big white Barn where you could go in and look at all the amazingly beautiful crafts, soaps, lotions, and home decor that they had for sale. They weren't even expensive either, you would expect some of those items to be more on the expensive side but they were definitely affordable. I ended up getting a hot cocoa sign and a prairie Moon farm coffee mug. The mug was $8.50. We walked over to the entrance to go into the reindeer encounter. As you go in, there are many photo opportunities, an area where the kids can sit down, warm up and do some coloring! After that we went over to say hi to the alpacas, they look very happy and healthy! A couple turkey's crossed our paths as we walked over to the reindeer enclosure. They were absolutely beautiful and they looked so happy and confortable! There was a girl standing by the reindeer enclosure and she was offering us Willow branches to feed the reindeer for free. She was very knowledgeable about the reindeers and talking to us about their antlers. There was a little girl there and she was really concerned because the reindeers antler was bleeding slightly. She gave us reassurance that even though they looked like that, they did not hurt, it was part of the process for when the reindeers drop their antlers. I appreciated so much that she knew about them and was educating us and the people around us about them! This is such a great place I think that it might be somewhere that I add to my itinerary more often. I hear that they have many seasonal opportunities with lots of fun stuff! They take part in Spoon River drive where they have lots of vendors there selling their items, they have plenty of seasonal activities for children and adults too including a big bubble pool in the summer. In the fall, they have a whole pumpkin patch along with seasonal drinks and foods and in the spring they have a flower market. I'm definitely looking forward to driving out here again next season to see what they have to offer!
