I needed to make a few boxes for Christmas gifts (yes, I am crazy enough to make my boxes when I can) with my digital cutting machine, and I needed heavy paper that was at least 12 inches wide and 18 inches long. I scoured the Internet, and found what amounts to 18x24 construction paper on Blick's web site. (No problem that it was bigger than I needed; I could always cut it in half.) This was Saturday, and I needed to know that I'd have it early in the week; I was willing to drive just about anywhere to be sure I'd have it. I got on chat; the very helpful person (sorry, I don't recall the name) told me the stores didn't have it, but if I paid the extra $3 for ground shipping, being in Chicago, I should get delivery in 1 - 2 business days. OK, so I ordered, paid the tiny extra charge, and crossed my fingers. Early Tuesday morning, my package arrived, everything in perfect condition. The paper was exactly as described, and I was off making my crazy boxes. I've dealt with these guys a number of times over the past few years. My part of the world doesn't have any art stores, and the craft stores, for what I usually want, aren't great. I order my oil paint and panels online from Dick Blick. I've compared prices to local art stores in Denver, and Dick Blick is always lower. And they have the best selection of oil paint in large tubes, and panel sizes. I went on a 2 week painting trip this June, and forgot to bring my spare paint. There were no art supply stores on our route that had what I needed. I ordered online from Dick Blick on a Friday in Gunnison, and the paint was delivered to our campground in Silverton the following Monday. Their quick response saved my painting trip! read more

This store is always like walking into Christmas, something wonderful everywhere you look! If you are an artist you will love ( and a little bit hate, unless you are independantly wealthy) this store. You will most likely want to try awesome new things you find, stock up on your favorites and wander repeatedly around and around trying to decide what would be the most wonderful fabulous thing to buy this time. Every time I order with Blick online there is a problem. First when I order an item with a free gift and don't receive that gift I'm told they were out of free gifts. A week later it's still offered on their website. Now they list a price for an item. I order it and that night I get an email saying if I want it still I have to pay more for it due to there error in pricing. What! When I write asking them to honor their website price as any store would do I receive an invoice stating this "We have no obligation to honor this error." For me this has happened once to often with this company. read more

Feeling unwelcome at a place where I should feel like I belong is a terrible feeling - the manager was very unfriendly and unhelpful - when I approached her at the counter with my question, she did not acknowledge my existence, but instead shot me a look of disgust when I went to speak as if I was a mutant from the depths. She barely looked at my concern before quickly ignoring me to greet and strike up a conversation with a frequent customer. So I walked off feeling confused and not wanting to spend anymore time inside the store. I am not from the area and traveled a great distance to visit this store in hopes it would pull me out of my long-winded era of depression and finally get back to doing what I do best, which is creating art. I haven't felt like myself in a really long time and for someone to treat me as if I was burdening them whilst attending their place of employment was extremely unpleasant and unprofessional - especially when said manager was gossiping about customers to another employee during my visit - makes me wonder what they said about me when browsing other areas of the shop. I love this store and wish that my experience here was 5 star. Unfortunately, it was mediocre at best - I almost dropped all of my items at the counter, drove home, and shopped online - I'm sure another store would have appreciated the hundreds of dollars I spent at this energy-draining establishment. I will not be returning to this location to feel like I'm unwanted and unappreciated for being a new guest at a place where everyone is unique and gifted. read more

If I need something TODAY I will go to a local art supplies store. If I just need to restock and have the time to wait I prefer Dick Blick. They have an amazingly vast selection of supplies for artists. This is my candy. You can order online as well as from a catalog. Catalog shopping is a no-brainer, of course, but sometimes online shopping sites can be a pain. Dick Blick's site is rather intuitive. They make shopping easy by grouping items into categories according to skill level - artist, student, educator, etc. and also according to medium or other needs - airbrushes, archival, watercolor, sculpting, easels, desks, scrapbooking, printmaking, and the list goes on. The prices are very reasonable (especially for the starving artist) and the delivery doesn't take too long. Sometimes I wish the shipments would hurry up, but that is probably just me being impatient for my goodies to arrive. My only caution would be to keep an eye on your cart if you are on a budget. It is easy to get carried away with all of the items they have and add more and more and more! read more

Lots of deals and sales, I've been ordering with them since I was in college and I'm always pleased with the range of professional and student grade art supplies. The people on the other end of the phone are extremely knowledgeable about materials and such. A little slow on the shipping, but if you don't mind waiting a bit, you get way better deals than what you would find at Michael's or Joann's (as much as those stores are addictive to me). I know the name sounds funny, but believe me, this website is work-safe and secure! It's actually a website where you can buy art supplies online. I don't think I've saved so much on canvases for my acrylic paintings before, especially when you choose to buy in bulk! It's hard finding an art store in Seattle that doesn't charge you an arm and a leg for good quality art supplies. The prices are so crazy that if there was ever an opportunity for you to try something new that you've never done before (like ceramics or oil painting or airbrushing), you can probably get everything you need for your new hobby at a cost within your budget. I've read other reviews about this website's customer service and it is no lie. I think they have great customer service. They are very considerate and and informative about the products they sell. If you have any sort of question regarding your order, they will most likely have an answer. But like all websites, shipping and waiting for your package is always a concern. Will my package arrive at the ETA? Are you sure that my goods are secure and will not get damaged? With Dick Blick, they have an option to have them choose the best delivery method so that your package gets to you as quickly as possible at the cheapest cost. I believe they'll either use FedEx or USPS - whichever seems like the better option. Also, it looked like my 10 12"x12" canvases arrived safely and undamaged! Just remember - they'll be shipping from Illinois and they have a little map in their FAQ's to show how long your package may take to arrive. I have often purchase art supplies from Blick Art Materials without any problems. However, this review concerns a base for a Safco flat file base. I made the mistake of ordering a size that was too large. I called Blick to find out how to send back the one I had, and to get the smaller one I needed. One customer service representative said to send it one place, another one said to send it to another place. When I finally got the right place to send it, it took me $2,000 to send it back. At this point I was not about to buy the size I need. The whole thing was a nightmare. From now on I will get art supplies at other stores. read more

I am SO lucky to live just a short drive from the Galesburg Dick Blick! I am a painter & my daughter is a budding artist in her own right & we visit this store on a monthly basis, at least. We live the same distance from a couple of craft stores, but Blick is always our first choice. - They have a HUGE selection of paint in every color you could desire, the best brands, oils, acrylics, watercolor... all right there in the store. - You need stretched canvas, they have a huge wall full of every dimension & depth. - Brushes! Natural, or nylon, in every size & shape. I love that they have just as great a selection in their student grade as they do in professional. My little girl & her friends can go through a lot of brushes & the student grades are very affordable. - Any size or style of easel or drafting table. A variety of lighting for your studio or work area. Portfolios, storage, mats & frames. - You don't have to be a painter to enjoy Blick. Pastel, sculpture, sketching, printmaking, graphic design, paper craft, drafting, colored pencil, airbrush... I'm leaving out so much more that just won't come to me. They have what you need. I love being able surprise the kids (or treat myself) with something a little different. Last Christmas we bought our card making supplies at Blick & my children created their own print blocks to decorate them. Big hit! - The Dick Blick store will place special orders for you & have available for you to pick up. In my experience I've called on a Monday & been in town on Wednesday & they had my order all ready to go. No shipping worries! - The best employees! Very friendly, knowledgeable & ready to help when you need it, but not hovering. They turn a great store into my favorite. - They also have a great section of kids crafting supplies. Good selection of products but very poor delivery process. Products are delivered outside the US however they provide limited and very expensive options.Because the company is unable or unwilling to provide total shipping costs, I ended up paying about $100 of shipping costs (!!!) on a small carton with approx $150 worth of products. Their response (they hardly acknowledged the issue and basically showed no intentions whatsoever of doing anything at all to rectify an unfortunate situation), was very short and unsatisfactory. Ultimately the problem is all mine. My overall experience with Dick Blick Art Materials is definitely NEGATIVE and I do Not advice buying products from this company. read more

Had the very best customer service from Dick Blick's art materials. Recently ordered art supplies; canvases, frames, and more. The frames/canvases arrived badly damaged by the post office - completely crushed on one side, broken frames and splintered wood. Called customer service who responded with "we'll send you out replacements as soon as possible". I was so pleasantly surprised - there were no questions asked other than "was the Blick logo on the box" (it was). A few days later, I received replacement canvases and frames. That kind of service makes me a believer and as a long time customer of Blick, will continue to order all my art supplies from Dick Blick. Thank you Dick Blick! read more

I received an email from them upon receipt stating they had received my shipment . its now been 5 days not including the weekend , I have yet to receive my refund on this order .
