Not the worst milk teas I've had but... Former coffee shop and specialty tea shop barista here. We stopped by Kokee yesterday in the mall for a couple of milk teas. The line was pretty short when we went but there were at least five different employees crammed into the tiny stand bustling about either cleaning or preparing the drinks. Though I can't say these drinks were good, we were at least able to finish them. We ordered the Strawberry Milk Tea and Matcha Milk Tea, both with Honey Boba. The Honey Boba were too sweet and were a lot smaller in size to a lot of the boba I've either prepped myself or have had in drinks in the past. The Strawberry Milk Tea simply tasted like someone tried to brew tea in a cup of Strawberry Nesquik, and I wouldn't be surprised if that was actually the case. I found myself forcing myself to finish it since I'd spent good money on it. The Matcha Milk Tea on the other hand was made with a super low quality matcha concentrate that I did not find enjoyable in the slightest. Had it been the drink I'd ordered, I would have tossed it without a doubt. I'd recommend skipping this boba tea joint. Tried this place for the first time and it was alright. The coffee milk tea tasted decent and the Thai tea wasn't as good as I expected (I had this drink in other places that were better I feel). I added some Honey Boba and though was chewy didn't really help with the drink and really couldn't tell if honey was in it. I also tried a coconut smoothie and was creamy and delicious definitely best drink between the three. I do like the idea they have to make your drink as sweet as you like and the cover on the drinks are cute. I rarely go to North Star and I have went a couple times recently. I did not have any previous issue but this got to me. All my jobs have been in customer service so I know what good service should be. I ordered MANGO WITH BOBA. I received MANGO WITH MANGO BOBA. When I questioned about the type of boba I received, the lady said YOU SAID MANGO BOBA SO YOU GOT MANGO BOBA AND IF IT WAS THE OTHER BOBA YOU SAY TAPIOCA OR HONEY DEW(sorry if I got this wrong) BOBA. It was a shocking response because instead of saying sorry I misunderstood she wants to argue. I did not argue back but asked if I can get tapioca and she says its going to take 25 minutes. I will NEVER order mango boba in my drinks and if tapioca was not available I just simply do not order because that is why I purchase these drinks. Please please educate your employees of the meaning of the word boba when its by itself. Here is what pops up in Google "Boba is made from tapioca starch, also known as cassava starch, which is why they're often also labeled as "tapioca pearls." by allrecipes.com. I could have went to Tealicious instead who majority of the time have boba ready and I never get mango boba when I say MANGO WITH BOBA. I should have known they did not have tapioca because it happens often. read more
