Had to Google what a kolache was, and honestly, that search changed the trajectory of my road trip through Powdersville. Conveniently right off the interstate with a drive-thru, Kolache Factory became my accidental breakfast detour. The buns were so so soft and slightly sweet, stuffed with fillings that somehow nailed the "not too saucy, not too dry" sweet spot. Basically the ideal portable food for eating one-handed. The Ranchero kolache was the winner for me: bright, fresh flavors over the heavier gravy-style options all day. The pepperoni kolache, though, tasted a little too close to a Hot Pocket. And the cinnamon roll? Perfectly edible and... completely forgettable. Pass on it and get another kolache instead. If you're into spinach-artichoke dip energy, the Chicken Florentine Stuffed Croissant will do you just fine. Only downside: the inside felt a little visually loud with coffee merch OMG everywhere and glittery holiday wreaths fighting for attention while I was trying to focus on my dough-based happiness. read more

This Polish Bakery is located in Three Bridges Commons shopping area in Powdersville, SC. I've read good reviews about this bakery. I went with the main purpose of trying one of the featured items, the Korean Beef Croissant. When I arrived around 11:00 am on a Saturday morning, several of the items were sold out including the Korean Beef Croissant. They do not take any bills over $20 so make sure you have this or you can use a card. Thankfully, I was excited about visiting this bakery otherwise I would have been deterred by the not so friendly face and attitude of the young lady taking my order. A smile isn't required to sell a roll but it would have made my experience better. The shop is small-limited seating but these rolls are perfect for eating on the go so I made my order to go. I purchased a Jalapeno Popper roll, a Philly Cheese Steak roll, a BBQ Beef roll and a Sausage Cheese & Jalapeño roll. I had them heat up the sausage cheese and jalapeño roll. It was delicious. Even though the jalapeño popper roll was not heated up, I went ahead and ate that too. It was scrumptious. If it had been warm I'm sure it would have been even better. Although the rolls are small they are filled with a mouthful of deliciousness. (I think I took a liberty with the English language there!) I know there are several locations for this bakery. I will definitely visit them again. If this rating was based solely on product, it would be five stars. Introducing Mrs. K. to kolaches, I was hoping for something sweet like raspberry and cheese. They do have some cheese Danish but that's not the same. The sausage, cheese and jalapenos kolache is literally a small sausage with jalapeno rings. The egg and cheese was very full with mixed scrambled eggs and a cheddar cheese. First problem is the kolache bread tastes like dough. It's absolutely unedible by itself which when combined with a filling that isn't flavored enough to overcome it, makes a very unpleasant experience. The Potato, Egg & Cheese was god awful. Are you using powdered eggs? What a disaster that was. Philly Cheese was so-so. Chicken Enchilada tasted rubbery. The Jalapeño Popper was good. The desserts tastes like it uses canned fruit filling & the pastry dough is using the same bland, doughy-tasting bread used in the kolaches. What a disappointment this place was. As others have said, the ingredients are very low quality, which is the 2nd biggest problem, when coupled with weird tasting dough, is just awful. Maybe the croissants are better but then again the low-quality ingredients come into play again. Nothing about these Kolaches says "ethnic" but "Factory" is a fitting name considering the quality of food. read more

Where do I start? Lol If you want gas station food, here it is. We were starving and out doing errands, and were tired of pizza or Mexican. We thought we'd try a new place, and didn't want to spend a ton. We regret it. We walked in, and saw rows of kolaches along the back wall, behind the cashiers station, all on trays. Since we had never been, we didn't know how this worked. Each tray had a title, yet none told you what was actually in them. Some were self explanatory like "sausage egg cheese", but many others had names that wouldn't allude to what was inside; a guessing game. Instead of good customer service, a smiling face, or helpful tips on how to learn what's in what, we were met with unfriendly workers, rushed, no help at all even after telling them it's our first time and how does this all work. Disappointing. Customer service is important to me. We chose a few different types, and just took chances, since we didn't know what was inside and the menu didn't mention it. Honestly, these were gas station quality studded buns. Tasted like powdered eggs, cheese sauce, and low quality ingredients, with little flavor. The only two that even had a little bit of flavor were the chicken enchilada and the Italian chicken. But for $4+ each, not worth it for their quality. The only pro I could see, is that they're fast, and convenient, especially with a drive thru. I could see when in a pinch, kids in the car, only a minute to run out from work etc... but other than that, gross. Just my opinion and experience. read more

I've never tried a Kolache before so I can't tell you if this is better than others, but it was great in our opinion. We got a variety to try since it was our first visit -- a traditional hot Polish sausage; potato, egg, and cheese; and the sausage and gravy. The helpful associate said the sausage and gravy is their best seller, and I understand why! They were all delicious, as was the coffee. The service was good. They have a drive through but we went inside. The coffee was very good. When we said we hadn't been there before it would have been nice if we had gotten a little help figuring out the menu. It helped that we could see the items and that other reviews said we would eat two at least. We had some surprises. Mostly, the texas apple croissant is savory not sweet with, i think, bacon and cheese. The ranchero egg and also the potato and egg kolachis were very good and well seasoned. They are a large bread ball stuffed with the filling and would be easy to eat and drive. The strawberry was delicious. The sausage jalapeño and cheese kolachi was ok but seems a little small. I wouldn't get it again. We got there at 10 for a late breakfast. They were well stocked. They have a small clean dining area with 2 booths, 2 4 tops, and another table. And they have tables outside. The location is easy to get to since it has access to the side road with the traffic signal at 153. We may stop here again if we need breakfast on the go. read more

When driving to Greenville, SC coming from Easley I almost always go through Powdersville, SC on the way to I 85. I have driven past the Kolache Factory every time, not knowing what the place is. My sister was talking and she asked if I had ever had a Kolache. I said no, and she began to tell me what a Kolache is, and that I need to try them. I decided to do just that this morning. The Kolache Factory is open from 6am to 2pm Monday thru Saturday, 7am to 2pm on Sunday. Drive-thru hours are Monday thru Saturday 5am and at Sunday 6am. They do offer catering and online ordering. I made my order online, glad that I did, because this was much faster, and I didn't have to wait like ALL of the other customers did. There are several different varieties of kolaches, savory, sweet and breakfast kolaches, they even have savory croissants, cinnamon rolls, strudel niks, cinnamon twists and muffins. I decided on three savory kolaches, two barbecue brisket and one cream spinach, and a peach, strawberry, and cinnamon roll. The Kolache of the month is a cream cheese kolaches with an Apple slice with a little cinnamon. I noticed some time after I got home that the Kolache of the month wasn't in the box. I called back to the business and the manager answered the phone, I told him what happened. He was so nice, he told me he would put my name up and to just come through the drive thru, and tell them my name and that I would get two kolaches of the month, just for having to come back! How nice is that???!! So I did eat the barbecue brisket, it was delicious, tender beef brisket in a sweet barbecue sauce, inside a slightly sweet(just like they said) dough. Next was the strawberry kolaches...y'all it was so good, I am in love!! My sister stopped by the Kolache Factory this morning on the way home from work, and brought me a philly cheese steak kolaches and yes I ate that too, greedy I know.. Kolaches can be eaten cold, but are better reheated and they will ask if you need anything heated at the factory. I was so impressed with this place. OMG, we finally found kolaches! This place reminds of The Czech Stop in West, TX. Sweet or savory - they have it all!!! Perfect to gain points at your morning meeting too. Be sure to call ahead if looking for a large order because this place is popular. We got sausage egg and cheese, bacon egg and cheese, hot polish, and cream cheese. Delish! I won't get into the history of Kolaches like most, but having worked for GE Oil and Gas for 12 years in Houston- it's a staple food and one I thought my customers would enjoy. Great staff, picked the standards - jalapeño and cheese, sausage cheese, ranchero, sausage and gravy- nobody at my customers place had heard of them but had seen the place. These are the real deal, yes- on some the buns cook up and expand so don't look full so it that's the key- bacon egg and cheese always seem dullest to me. Heat up later for left overs, eat and enjoy the treats most around here don't get to see. Great coffee and have to come back for some lunch snacks when it's not 6:30 am. Didn't get pics but all were fantastic and my customer was pleasantly surprised and glad I broke the ice for them . Highly recommend you try a couple- spicy is traditional but get what you like!! First off let's clear a few things up about Kolaches, Czechs and H-Town. Kolaches aren't just successful because their is some massive Czech population in Houston. The love of this little comfort food item extends all over the state, not just Houston. Houston is a melting pot of cultures from all over the world with historically the largest group of European immigrants being German. Hispanics and AA make up a significant part of the population as well. Now on the food review. The staff here are knowledgeable and extremely helpful. My favorite is the sausage, jalapeño and cheese. I also love the simple sausage. As someone else pointed out the cinnamon rolls are fantastic. As a native Texan it's awesome to see a KF in TN and that it is operated by a great staff. The Kolache is a popular food in the Houston, Texas area due to it's historical high number of Czech immigrants in the past that made this fruit or savory filled yeast dough popular. A new franchise location opened in the Greenville area, Powdersville to be exact, late 2017. Today is National Kolache Day, so I decided to finally travel the 6-7 miles from work to try them for lunch. The location is clean and bright. It is not as easy to get to coming from I-85 because a U-turn is involved, but it is at a traffic light, so be patient. The staff was family and very friendly. The GM is the brother of the owner, both very likeable. The products are about the size of an small orange, not the naval orange, but the small orange, maybe tennis ball sized. They are affordable, at $2.00 to $3.00 range. The dough is the main star, the fillings are the support/back-up singers for the dish. The dough is pillowy, slightly chewy and has the yeast flavor indicating it is a yeast based roll. I had the sausage, cheese, jalapeno and the Philly cheese and a chicken enchilada to get a variety flavor overview. These require heating up if you are a lunch time diner, they are made fresh daily and early in the morning. They are behind the counter, similar to a Dunkin' Donuts tray display by category. It's difficult to tell the difference from looking at them, they are all same sized dough balls, except the one's with sausage filling, which are links. There also are several breakfast options. The place closes at 2PM so it kind of added up to me that this is primarily a breakfast oriented fare that has extended itself into the lunch hour. Although several savory options are on the menu, even after tasting them, it is clearly a breakfast option more than a lunch option. Both the Philly and the chicken enchilada were underwhelming with the ratio of dough (much more) than filling (not the "star"). If you are a low-carb dieter, or such, don't even bother. the Philly was tasty and had the right flavor idea, but the filling was a little dry with less cheese than expected. Definitely not even close to a decent Philly like a Jersey Mike's or Lenny's Deli type sandwich. Chicken enchilada was a flavorful but the filling was deteriorated into a type of paste type product instead of the pictures on the website. The sausage was good, I ate this one cold, it would have benefited from being heated up, as warned, but it did have ample pieces of jalapeno in the roll. Overall, excellent for a no mess, hand held option for a quick breakfast. Probably will come back one day for an egg oriented option. For lunch, probably not something I will hurry back to eat with so many options that are much better nearby. read more

A friend of mine asked me about this place so we met here for breakfast. I arrived early which gave me a good opportunity to ask the staff questions about the menu and figure out what I wanted. As they had just recently opened up the staff explained the lack of sodas and beverage choices, but this was due to be fixed shortly. The choices of Kolaches was fantastic, I've had Kolaches in Texas and obviously the Jalapeno Sausage Kolache from QT, but these were definitely a step-up from QT. I ordered the Polish Hot Kolache and a Jalapeno Sausage and Cheese Kolache. I was surprised to find the Jalapeno Sausage and Cheese Kolache actually had chopped up pickled jalapenos mixed in the cheese, and not just a few of them but a decent amount. Both Kolache were spicy as advertised and did not disappoint. I will obviously need to visit again so I can try other variety. read more
