They opened early (9:30) to help me get out on the road and stayed open late (5) so I could return the same day. Craig also gave me great route advice, sending me to a couple bike trails that I never would have found on my own. Sounds like they have plans to open a very nice store in September, but even for now I would recommend them highly for bike rentals. They are not conveniently located in downtown Kona, but are a little further out towards the airport, but there is a bus stop a half a block from them outside Kaiser Permanente which I used.

We stopped in the main store (tucked back off Ali'i Drive behind Haven Coffee) and the pop-up. Purchased New Balance and Hoka running sneakers, hats, and a few pairs of Goodr sunglasses (if you haven't tried these sunnies, they are cute, comfortable, durable, and so reasonably priced at $25-$35/pair...and they are polarized!). On previous visits I've purchased running clothes (love their RUN BIG shirts/hats), a running belt, and chews for my long runs. Clothes, shoes, accessories, nutrition...they've got you covered! Friendly and knowledgeable service, well-stocked store, convenient location in downtown. Run, don't walk, to Big Island Running Co for all your running needs!

Recommended I come back the next day day so I did and was so glad! I rented a double kayak and was able to pay card upon arrival. Came out to just under $63 for a rental I could've used all day. They opened at 7 am and we got out on the water by 7:30 am. The bay was like a lake that Monday morning. Bay Side Kayak lent us a large water bag that kept our belongings dry and safe. Would use this company again!

It's almost like I had been stung by wasps and the venom was eating me from the inside. Their employees are all "new." They don't know what is going on. Some of them try, but most are as bad as putting your hand in a garbage disposal with it on. All you pull back is a bloody stump. It's utterly appalling the Sheraton is in cahoots with these people. Outrageous prices for equipment rentals! Towel nazis! Victoria, go harass someone else at the pool, not paying guests! Se la vie.

Had a great time kayaking through Kealakekua bay with Evan and Steve and then snorkeling near…read moreCaptain Cook's monument. This was our second time and it was just as fun, if not more! The early morning kayaking through the bay is soothing for the soul. We also got lucky and saw some dolphins. The snorkeling is out of this world with such clear water and variety of colorful fish of all sizes. Evan and Steve were both very attentive to all the kayakers and super knowledgeable as we learned a bunch about Hawaiian history, Captain Cook's arrival (and demise), and the lasting legacy of that episode on Hawaii's history. After all the snorkeling, the sandwich lunch hit the spot. It also came with a souvenir water bottle! I had a last minute dietary request and they graciously accommodated. Even though this was our second time, we still had fun and actually learned new details about the history and conservation efforts happening in the area! If you want a fun, yet respectful and ethical experience, this is it!

When we…read morearrived at the shop at 7 am for orientation, Frank was friendly and prompt with greeting us at the shop and giving the orientation talk, and Paul outfitted us with gear and made sure we knew how to get to the launch site. The shop dog and cat were also very friendly. Our guide for the morning was Grant, who was fantastic. He was engaging and extremely knowledgeable about the history, culture, language, geology, flora, fauna, and many other topics. He was also communicative, attentive, and helpful to other people. Overall, I liked that our early start meant that we arrived before the other large commercial boats did, so we got to enjoy paddling and snorkeling the bay with fewer people. I highly recommend Kona Boys as an eco-friendly option with top tier service.
