I am a construction attorney and know very well the problems that people can have during a residential remodeling project. Because I know what can, and often does, go wrong, we had delayed starting this major project for several years. After our experience with Watermark, however, we wished that we had done this project years earlier. We couldn't be happier with the final results, how quickly the work was done, the quality of the work, and the adherence to the budget. Our architect prepared some initial sketches and we met with Mike to discuss the project and to get preliminary pricing. Mike quickly returned the estimates and with enough detail to make important decisions about the scope of the project, and changes that needed to be made in order to fit within our budget. We went through this process several times until we finally settled on the final scope and price. When we began the project, my wife was about 7 months pregnant (and we have a 2 year old) and we were concerned about lead-based paint in our house, which was originally built in 1962. Mike did the lead tests, which revealed some lead paint in old cabinets, and gave us detailed information about the EPA's new lead-based paint guidelines. Ultimately, the cabinets were removed (intact) to avoid creating excessive amounts of lead dust. During demolition, our architect commented that it was an "extremely clean demo" and in about 3 or 4 days, everything had been removed down to the studs, including the old Saltillo tile, and ceramic tile in the bathrooms. During this process, we met several of Watermark's subcontractors including the framer, plumber, and electrician, all of whom were extremely competent, friendly, and focused on the task and getting it done right. I frequently found the plumbing, drywall, and painting subcontractors working on the house well past 6:00 pm and even on Sunday evenings, in order to maintain the schedule. Throughout the project, Mike was regularly on site and anticipating upcoming issues. He communicated with us about potential issues that may arise, the need to address certain issues while they were exposed and easily accessible, and kept us focused on making selections (tile, plumbing fixtures, light fixtures, paint colors, etc.) to avoid any delays. We were motivated to complete the project as soon as possible, because we wanted to move back into the house as soon after having our second child. All of the major work was completed 2 weeks before the completion date, and we moved back into the house exactly 1 week before the completion date in the contract! In addition to finishing ahead of schedule, Mike was able to complete the project on budget. With any remodeling project (especially older homes) there are a number of unknowns that will undoubtedly occur. We encountered our share of issues, but Mike always kept us informed of the issues, and discussed the costs ahead of time. Even with the unknowns and the unavoidable additions/changes that occur during any project, we were able to complete the project in line with the budget. [You should budget an extra 20% for any construction project. Ours was only 10%]. It is obvious that Mike cares about the quality of the work and wants his customers to be happy with the finished product. On almost every occasion, Mike had already identified issues that needed to be correct before I could bring them up. He expected his subcontractors to perform the work to the same level of quality that we expected, so we were always very satisfied, especially with the final result. To sum up: this was a somewhat demanding project because the house was fairly old and required a significant amount of work, I'm a construction lawyer who is hypersensitive to potential pitfalls, my wife was pregnant, and we both had high expectations for the finished product. Not only was Mike willing to take on this project, he completed it on time, on budget, and with fantastic results!

Getting a roof replaced is like going to the dentist. You know you have to do it , but overall it's…read morenot the most enjoyable thing to do. The disruption, the mess and ultimately the cost can be a headache. We have used Lopez Roofing for our commercial building and just recently our home. We have always found their services to be quick and professional. They had a crew of 10 workman completely replace our roof, added 40 ft of gutters and repaired/painted damaged fascia in less than 12 hours. While one portion of the crew was removing and replacing shingles another was constantly cleaning and sweeping debris. The place was pristine when they left. Although they gave me an initial estimate to complete the job, they were very open to negotiating a cost that was a win win for everybody. Originally I proposed that they give me an estimate for the house only and not the separate garage since I was paying out of pocket and on a budget. They offered to lay a layer of shingles on the separate garage building at no extra cost to match the house. They only thing they required is that I use a slightly different color shingle than what I originally wanted. The color was not a big issue, so I readily agreed. They had no obligation to do that, but they did.As it turns out that house and garage building turned out beautiful. And it was all at a very reasonable cost. Highly recommend!

I have recommended Marks Builders to many of my family and friends, and they've all had great things to say too.  Read on if you want the whole story! I had a leak in a wall between two bathrooms, above the kitchen.  Just to set the scene, my wife was pregnant and we had a baby due 3 weeks after the start of the construction.  My kitchen had a dropped ceiling and was original to the 1970s house.  Dustin worked with State Farm (my insurance carrier) to bring the adjuster's repair estimate up to a par. He and his team worked with us to order cabinets early (we were getting custom cabinets so they had a long lead time), then they gutted the kitchen and bathroom, raising the ceiling to 8' (reworking the HVAC, plumbing, and electrical lines in the process).  They pulled up all of the tile in the downstairs while we were out of the house (and in the hospital having the baby).  We asked for a few days at home without construction when we came home, to which they agreed. They worked hard to make sure that the house was ready for cabinets when they would be delivered. The cabinets were delivered without issue and installed the same week, with the trim taking longer than any other single step because they wanted it to look just right - and it paid off! The finishing touches make all the difference! The granite crew came in and did their thing. Like all of Dustin's sub-contractors, they were on time, professional, and courteous. They did their work well, quickly, and cleanly. We opted for granite counters and granite backsplashes, with different edge finishes in different places, corners, etc. to work around. They did it all well. Our kitchen looks fantastic, even a year and a half later. Through the whole 2-month process, Dustin's crew was on-site 4-6 days/week, except when we asked for the break. We made a lot of changes midway through, and Dustin didn't nickel and dime on the little things (moving an outlet, changing from a 2 gang to a 4 gang plug, etc). He was happy to work with my attention to detail (which can frustrate most people I know) and he did it with a smile - his attention to detail was similar. His crew was always fun to have around, and I never once worried about them being in the home, whether I was there or not. They worked hard to make sure we felt safe with them in the house at the start of Covid. All said, I strongly recommend Marks Builders. They're honest, smart, hard-working, and fun people who care about the work they produce and their customers' experience.

I eventually paid the full amount just to stop the constant harassment and stress he was causing me and my business partners. Even after the payment cleared, he continued texting and harassing both me and my partners. Unprofessional, dishonest business practices. I would never recommend this company to anyone

If you read what I wrote and of others who are reading care to look at the picture I posted of what you said you were going to do VS what you actually did, anyone could plainly see that you were absolutely not even in the same realm of finished product... which you lead me to believe is what you'd do, for 5k... Now, considering the job was so poorly done with not even the slightest consideration given to doing a patch and asking me if that's what I wanted since it was so different, I can only infer that your company is too busy trying to rush a job and get paid rather than apply critical thinking. Don't try to cloud the issue by showing the poorly done stain that another company did before I hired you... Yes, believe it or not (anyone who's reading) this happened before this particular company came in and ruined my floor. I asked for a certain style, the contractor said they could do it, and it came out horribly done and not even close to what was agreed upon as the finished product I was paying for. How could this happen to me twice in a row? Very bad luck in choosing a floor specialist apparently. You can show whatever before and after you want, but the important one is what YOUR company gave me as the example work, and then the completely different floor you did, and on top of it all you had the nerve to charge me saying you could fix it and didn't, and now you have the nerve to try and defend yourself by moving the goal posts by posting a picture that's unrelated to my issue. I know, like you, I did not think they could get any worse..so so very wrong. I just lifted my couch to see that the safety gliders- you know the round things on the bottom of your couch used to protect your floors?- I now have FOUR HOLES in my floors where the gliders were. The floor has actually crumbled away completely in the exact shape of the protection gliders. It is clear and obvious that the overlay material the owner used must be incredibly cheap. We know dozens of families who all have concrete floors and not one of them has had the crumbling and chipping issues we have. Please, for your own sanity, use any other company- avoid this one at all costs. **** 1/20/2011 So a year later....we have lived with the floors for a while now. We are still having scuff issues but not as bad since we switched to a matte wax (per the owner's recommendation) as opposed to a high gloss. Still having major chipping issues, just found several more in my kitchen yesterday. The over all too dark, too reddish and splatter marks are for obvious reasons still the same so there isn't anything that can be done about that. Unfortunately, the samples he made us on 4x4 tiles were thrown away so I cannot include a picture of them for comparison. They were a medium tan color not reddish in the least. Which as you can see from the attached pictures, our floors are very RED- which we specifically asked to avoid....and they are very dark, which we specifically asked to avoid. You can also see from the attached pictures on my account page, it is pretty impossible to determine the finished color once the stain as been laid down but not yet blended. The problem with this is, the stain is already laid down so there isn't anything else you can do- you really have no idea what the end result is unless you do this as a living...which we don't. The owner responded that we lived 45 mins from town so that is why he was late every day. He would leave each day and tell us what time he would be back for the next day...our house wasn't moving overnight, not sure why he was still over an hour or more late every day. What time he arrived is pretty insignificant in the whole realm of things. Our issues are the overall color was nothing like the tan sample (and as he said, he can't really control that tho other contractors have said that is not true) and the fact that the floors are not holding up to normal wear and use. If one of my kids accidentally drops a fork it guarantees us yet another chip. It's so disappointing to pay a lot of money for floors but now have to constantly baby them.

I was a design-builder for ten years and know a thing or two about houses and construction. My wife…read moreand I had to refinish an existing concrete slab whose original coatings from when we built (2007) had failed from the get-go, getting gummy and gross and melting anything made of rubber. Concrete polishing came into its own around 2009-2010 in the Austin area, and I really liked the option because it avoids coatings. Jason came highly recommended from a larger firm I knew about that focuses on commercial floors, and Jason helped us respectfully and honestly through the whole process, start to finish. Because it was the whole first floor of our house, we moved into a nearby HomeAway rental while Jason went to work. After a busy week of hard work, Jason delivered 1200 square feet of diamond-polished concrete on a slab that had never even been designed for such treatment. It has served us well for six years now and is by far the best floor surface I've ever lived on as far as durability, ease of cleaning, and day-in, day-out good looks. It's not a fancy floor, just a super-practical one that blends into the background when supported with nice rugs and furniture. The upfront cost, while not cheap, was comparable to laying hardwood, which would not be a practical choice on our main living floor. And the smooth, matte-finish, exposed aggregate we now have ought to last indefinitely. I recommend Jason and AllStar unhesitatingly. We love our diamond-polished slab concrete floor with the exposed aggregate and gentle luster.
