She is extremely professional and before we began, she showed me her licenses and explained what I could expect from the massage, including the various massage tools she would be using. I do a lot of jiujitsu and judo, as well as strength and conditioning training. If you do BJJ or other martial arts you know how tight your shoulders and back can get, and how important it is to stay loose for peak performance and long term health. Jenn does excellent work keeping me healthy and loose. Of course my face is down so I can't see what's going on, but beforehand she has shown me the smooth wooden tools she works with in addition to her hands. I've never had bodywork with these tools and it's really a great experience. They are so comfortable I can't tell when she switches from hands to tools. It really does the job. If you train in any sport regularly you should really invest in a quality massage at least once a month, and Jenn is an excellent choice. read more

I attended an aromatherapy intro session, where Jenna taught us the basics of mixing essential oils and we got to make a few different personalized products. Her workshop was incredibly well-organized and clear, with lots of types of materials (printed summaries, manipulatives, etc) to appeal to all learning styles. The experience was wonderfully hands-on and supportive, with no "right way" to respond to the products and lots of encouragement to find the balance that was right for us. I reached out to her via email on a Saturday, and she had me in her office for a 1.5 hour bodywork session on Sunday. I just want to start this review off by saying that I never thought my wife and I would be the kind of people who would hire a doula. We're the type of people who go to the doctor when we get sick. We don't really subscribe to holistic health and other things that might lean toward the "New Age" side of the spectrum. We were introduced to Jen when my wife received a gift certificate for a pregnancy massage from Jen. She came to the house, schlepped all of the stuff inside (and upstairs, refusing assistance, no less!) and gave my wife a wonderful massage that she totally enjoyed as evidenced by the fact she fell into a deep sleep (my wife, silly goose, not Jen). On her way out, Jen left her card letting us know that also offers doula services. As we were taking all of the birthing classes at Kaiser, we started to get a little freaked out. This was going to be our first child and we had no idea what to expect. "40 hours of labor," they said. "It's common. Don't be surprised." Massage here, breathing there, get some ice chips, don't forget the camera, etc. We (I) started to feel overwhelmed. Not to mention that my wife was worried I wouldn't do the massage thing correct. I started to get worried (a bit selfishly, I admit) that I wouldn't be able to step out for a breather. So as we discussed it more we decided it was a good idea to have someone in there with us, helping us along. We hired Jen and are very glad we did. We hired her a little late in the game so she only met with us once before the delivery. We had already met her briefly but we liked Jen from the get-go. She has a very friendly, kind vibe about her. It's obvious she has had a lot of training because she is very knowledgeable about many different aspects of pregnancy and labor and delivery. She really took the time to get to know us; she asked us about likes and dislikes, what was in out birth plan and what our overall philosophy was. She also pointed out areas where we had a choice about things that we didn't realize we did. We were also a little worried that labor would start sometime in the middle of the night and we'd be embarrassed to wake her up. She totally set us at ease about that and invited us to call her pretty much at any time that we felt we needed her. As it happened the water broke on the morning of the 40th week at 7 in the morning. Labor didn't start right away so we moseyed in to the hospital and called Jen to get there later that afternoon/ early evening. From the moment we got there she was very attentive and really acted as an advocate for my wife. She always made sure she knew what was being done and what choices she had. We had told Jen before that we may not always agree with the things she suggests (e.g. waiting longer for the contractions to get stronger as opposed to getting a dose of Pitocin) and I was really glad that she was ok with that. Having Jen there served as a kind of system of checks and balances. The doctors and medical staff represented the "highly scientific, cost cutting, shoot you full of Pitocin, give you an epidural, yank out the baby and make the room ready for the next patient"-side and Jen was the "totally natural, herbal tea, delayed cord cutting, kiss and make-out to make the labor easier"-side of things. So it was really good to have her there, even if we did tend to follow the medicos' advice more than hers. Throughout the whole thing Jen was there being very supportive, giving massage and just listening. She knew when to step in and when to leave us alone. Oh! And I can't forget to mention that she brought the soft massage music and a camera. Don't forget that camera! Can I just say that even though I brought my own camera I didn't even take it out once because I was so caught up. Jen took wonderful pictures throughout the whole event that we will treasure for the rest of our lives. There's even a video she took that still makes me tear up whenever I think about it (like right now, for example). When all was said and done, Jen was a trooper who stayed with us for the bulk of 38 hours labor. (We did manage to sneak a few hours' sleep to recharge.) Truthfully I was feeling a little bad for her that it was taking so long but she totally put us at ease. After the birth she really tended to my wife (I was busy accompanying the baby with all her newborn procedures, etc.) and made sure to get her some nourishment; she was ready with the honey sticks and fed her popsicles. She snapped a few more cool pics (including the placenta--omelet, anyone?) and then knew exactly when to slip out and leave us with our new treasure (a girl, if you're wondering). A couple weeks after the birth she came over and showed us how to give the baby a massage. Bottom line we would definitely hire her again for massage and doula services (although not for a few years yet). I don't normally like to write reviews; I'd rather keep a well-kept secret, well... kept. But seriously credit where it's due. read more

Jenn has been coming to my home every weekend for a few months, and me and my dog look forward to it. I have a C6/C7 injury and have had issues for many years in my upper back muscles - she has help me with those areas and I feel like I am more aware of my body since working with her. I heard about Jenn through a local acupuncturist - Jenn is his massage therapist. Well if she is good enough for an acupuncturist, she's good enough for me. Love that she comes to your home, can bring the chair or table (she can bring the heat too!), uses her hands and has tools to get really deep in those spots that need it. Before Jenn comes over I put on relaxing music (although she has her own music too) and warm up the room - spray a little essential oils in the air. I prefer at home massages (my first time) and would recommend Jenn wholeheartedly. read more

Jenn has worked with me both in emergency situations (muscle spasms don't always schedule an appointment!) and also for on-site massage where I didn't have a specific urgent need. She is professional and personable, and excellent at her work. I appreciate her willingness to accommodate the busy schedule of parents and to see us at "odd hours" so we can keep living a normal life with two small kids! Jenn is a gem. You can tell she really cares about your body and how you are feeling. I've particularly appreciated her help with specific issues I was having, for which she provided directed massage and helped further by instructing me about self massage and stretching techniques.
