Beginning to be very disappointed with the business. It used to be good until they changed their hrs. This morning was not good at all. The hash browns were literally raw and mushy. Last time about a month ago I got the home fries. They were raw hard and not cooked. Def need a change in cooks in the kitchen. The country fridge steak was almost burnt tasting and the gravy was on the side. Not sure why. The service was also average at best. Literally threw the straw on the table walking away. Probably going to be a while till I return. Not worth the money. Should have waited 20 minutes and went to Hoss's. The condiments on the table are disgusting. We don't go out for breakfast very often and were looking for a local place we hadn't ever been. Kind of odd we'd never visited before, since we've lived 10 minutes away for over 20 years. Anyway, on to the review. Our visit this morning wasn't very good. We were promptly "greeted" at the door by "Mr. Barrel of Sunshine" who asked if we were ordering off the menu or having the breakfast buffet. I replied I didn't know they had a buffet and Mr. BoS proceeded to show us to the banquet room and gruffly pointed us to some tables and said we could sit there and decide if we wanted buffet or menu. I opted for the buffet (a bit pricey at $14, I think?) and my wife and son ordered off the menu. Our server was very nice and seemed eager to provide us with great service. My wife ordered coffee, my son ordered chocolate milk and I went with water as I had already brought my own coffee from home, being fairly picky about my coffee. I asked our server for some hot sauce and she promptly brought me a small bottle of Frank's Red Hot. When I flipped the lid open, the top of the dispenser was caked with crusty hot sauce residue. Kind of gross. The coffee wasn't very good. Weak and light and not very flavorful. I'm also kind of snobby about water, and the tap water isn't very good. Tastes chemically enhanced, if you will. A 'berg thing? Aside from the sausage gravy and biscuit, which was pretty good, the food from the buffet was mostly bland and lacked flavor. The bacon and sausage were decent. The french toast was a bit hard. My son ordered the waffle with berries which was initially served to him plain and had to be brought back. I also feel like most places would throw a little whipped cream on such a breakfast item. My wife's veggie omelette/hash browns was supposed to come with (rye) toast she ordered, but it never saw the table. We also asked for a 2nd chocolate milk for the boy which was never brought. Lastly, the condition of the men's bathroom was not good. Very dirty! Needs a thorough scrubbing and new paint to cover up some of the crud. Most likely a first and last trip for us. Others must enjoy it, as it seemed to be quite busy with regular patrons. read more

Super busy! Only open 7 am - 3. Stopped in at one and had to wait several minutes to be seated. There was a sign that said short staffed. Once seated waitress was super friendly and everything we ordered was delicious. My daughter made the comment she thought the prices were low. Would recommend to anyone who was in the mood for breakfast or diner like food. They were sold out of gobs but they looked good and had home made pies! read more

While passing through town on a work trip, I stopped here for a lunch break. When I pulled in, the place was packed for a Tuesday around noon. I found an empty seat at the bar and was quickly greeted and given a drink. My lunch entree choice was a cup of the vegetable soup along with a steak salad. The soup had a wonderful flavor broth and was packed full of vegetables. My steak salad was massive, the steak was nicely seasoned and the lettuce was crisp. My waitress was pretty busy but she was friendly and chatted with me for a few minutes. Overall a big success for a quick lunch on the road and I will definitely be back while passing through town. read more

I was so sad when I popped into town and took my husband to Kostas bragging about only a couple of weeks ago I had a good breakfast there. yesterday april 16th 2023 we paid 40.00 for a breakfast that was the worst I ever had. My husband had the buffet which was rock hard French toast powdered eggs and sausage links that were rubbery and awful. The silver dollar pancakes were hard. The biscuits were rock hard. My breakfast was from the menu. The hash browns were soggy and white not even browned and my rye toast was warm bread with butter. My sausage Pattie's were not what I had a few weeks prior. They were dry and overcooked. I couldn't believe it. It was unbelievable that the coffee was the only good thing. What happened Kosta's? Frozen crappy stale food served at fresh food prices. We won't be back anytime soon. Don't rip off your customers by cutting corners. Be consistent. read more

Finally a place that knows how to make a sausage egg and cheese breakfast sandwich! Today is 8/7/22 at 11:05 AM and I literally just finished this outstanding sandwich which I got as take out. Too bad I live 65 miles away. But at least I know there's a place I can stop on my regular travels through this way. If you can't do the sausage egg and cheese right, then there's no point in trying anything else. It's the same as if an Italian restaurant can't get linguine and white clam sauce right. Delicious! We had the breakfast buffet, which was so good we didn't have the chance to take any pictures. Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly, they had a large choice of items like pastries, cream chipped beef, gravy, eggs, potatoes, hash browns, funnel cake sticks, and waffles with fresh toppings. Our family highly recommended this place, especially for the fresh breakfast. It was a friendly atmosphere and they were happy to greet us. We felt comfortable and enjoyed our time there. After Strike 1 at Castle Pub (literally no service) and Strike 2 at Off the Rak (burned down) we ended up at Kosta's at the other end of the shopping center from Off the Rak. We walked in wondering if we were going to strike out on dinner tonight. We didn't. Kosta's was the best meal I've had in Ebensburg so far. My order wasn't anything unusual, burger, fries, wings and a soda. As simple as a meal gets, but Kosta's did simple damn well. The burger was a good size, juicy and cooked just right, The fries were hand cut, hand been properly blanched, and then deep fried perfectly leaving them crisp on the outside and tender inside. As for the wings, Kosta's calls out their award winning on their menu and has Best of Ebensburg Ribbons on the wall for them. Being a wing junkie (and snob) I knew I was trying an order to see if they really stacked up or if this was another BS "Best of Ebensburg" title (see my Italian Village Yelp) The wings came out and they were solid. The wings were a decent size, the sauce had good flavor, they had some kick to them not quite as hot as I prefer but OK. Comparing to the other wings I've tried around Ebensburg they were easily the best. To top it all off we had 2 waitresses bouncing around making sure we had everything we needed and they were both sweethearts. The only things keeping Kosta's from that elusive 5th star are that they apparently don't have a liquor license (which is a shame because those wings would go perfectly with a cold beer) and the booths in the dining area were not made for guys over 6 foot. So Kosta's comes in with 4 well deserved stars. We will be back ... often. read more

Two stars for the sweet workers and one more for the chicken parmigiana. The rest was a disaster. Fried shrimp was done in old oil and so fried I don't know if there was actually shrimp inside or just a heart attack. The fish was dried out and gross. Green beans came from a can. Overpriced! Paid almost $8 ($7.95) for eggs, home fries, and a drink. I didn't even have any meat or toast. The food had no flavor. Some of my home fries wasn't cooked thoroughly. This place is always packed at lunchtime, but for the life of me, I can't quite figure out why. I mean, it's good...but not better than nearby Clark Powell's! Kosta's has passable buffalo chicken salad...but nowhere near as good as The Old Farm Inn in Carrolltown. I've been to Kosta's several times but haven't really found any "standout" menu items. Went there on Friday night (seafood buffet night). We were directed to sit in the cold front of the restaurant because the waitress said she was a bit "packed" in the dining room. I clearly saw 3 empty booths so I assume she didn't want us in the diningroom because we weren't getting the seafood buffet. The seats were near the door and uncomfortably cold. I ordered a super burger done medium, my wife a chicken salad. Burger was way overdone and not juicy. I was so hungry I ate it anyway. Very disappointed. Went for breakfast. My friend and I ordered the 2x2x2 meal with extra bacon. It was barely warm. Told the waitress so she took it back. When she brought it out it was just a little warmer very bland. My extra order of bacon was to be 4 slices she brought me 2 when I questioned her she went and looked and came back and said no just 2 pieces. I looked at the menu and it was to be 4 pieces. I was in the town of ebensburg on business, I was told to stop in at kostas for lunch. I ordered the burger and fries, pretty simple. It was ok at best. Nothing special, the meat actually seemed old. The only reason it's getting 3 stars is the waitress was very pleasant and very prompt. We waited for nothing. I believe her name was Erica. Other than that, 2 stars at best.
