Honestly, I so dreaded working with an insurance broker to find a home insurance policy. Kovalev seriously exceeded all my expectations. David and Tanya are hyper responsive, knowledgeable, detail oriented and result driven. They are able to get feedback and quotes far faster than anyone else we spoke to. This guy!!!! I love him. I had insurance through a different company, but I was pretty confused by the words in the policy and what I should have, so I talked to them anyway on the hopes they were nice enough to help a girl out. Michael Kovalev took me from my very beginner questions (like, "What the heck is renter's insurance?") all the way to explaining what a policy was, explaining each and every line on my policy, and recommending what I should have. He never once tried to get me to sign up for anything or make any money from me; he just patiently answered all of my questions and wished me a great day. Great guy. Then, months later, my renewal for my current insurance came along with a price hike, and I emailed him panicked. He ran quotes for me and found me one that still had everything we'd talked about 6 months earlier but was much cheaper. Then, he asked questions I'd never even think of to get the price even lower ("If you can get a copy of your license from 2003, then your premium will go down." What?? Who thinks of that?). When I sent him an "Ok, let's do it", he sent me papers immediately and within an hour I got an email saying that my new insurance policy was all set and he had taken care of the old one. Sweet. The customer service here - it's not even customer service, it's just plain caring about people - is amazing. A+ I had no idea insurance people could be cool. Also, A+++ for doing everything via email so I don't even have to go outside in the snow to do all of this. read more

Very happy with Kovalev Insurance as they provide both excellent service and able to secure great rates. I've been with Kovalev Insurance for over 10 years, and the service remains top notch. As a recent example, we were about to jump on what appeared to be a lower car insurance cost with Geico, but after thorough research by Michael, were able to switch both home and car policies to a different provider at further significant savings (about 20% less than previous year). We also have a commercial policy purchased through Kovalev and similarly, Michael was able to suggest the best policy based on cost/coverage/deductible. Also, I really appreciate how quickly Michael is able to respond to questions whether by phone or e-mail and process docs, which saves boatloads of time. So we remain happy customers and recommend Kovalevs to friends/family (many of them have become long term clients of Kovalevs as well). read more

Hi everyone. At first, I didn't even know Kovalev Insurance will be on Yelp. But now , when I am adding up one more truck to my fleet I have been asked for an street spelling and zip. So, I googled and that what gets me here. I register my company and of course insured in 1999 and this is how old my first truck is. Now when I am getting new equipment it does not cross my mind to weigh any other option. Simply because, all this years they took care of me very well. My colleagues (who are Russian speaking) have been very happy with this agency. However, my experience this morning was absolutely horrifying from a service perspective. I run an affordable senior housing community and one of my residents asked me to call, on her behalf, to clarify an issue regarding homeowners' vs. renters' insurance. The form said, "Homeowners Insurance Policy", so it was, understandably confusing. I spoke to Rita, who was the agent my resident had worked with. She could not have been more rude. I simply asked her why the form said "Homeowners'" rather than "Renters" and I also questioned the need for my resident to have liability insurance when she doesn't own the building. Ms. Rita responded, "Are you in the insurance business? Why are you telling me how to do my job? Why don't you ask your boss to explain it if you don't understand how insurance works? Why are you calling instead of the client?" etc. I explained to her that the client had asked me to call on her behalf. This is not unusual in senior housing. We often make calls to help our residents understand things, particularly when English is not their first language. Mr. Kovalev, it would be in your best interest to inform Ms. Rita that she is in the customer service business and that she should force herself to be polite to her callers, even if she doesn't feel like it. I have been a professional for 30 years. I have had homeowner's insurance as well as auto insurance, renter's insurance and even pet insurance. I did not need to spoken to by this young woman in that tone. I did point out to her that she was rude and I asked her to please just explain the answer to my question. The entire conversation deteriorated into a screaming match which ended with one of my Russian speaking colleagues finishing the call. I have many Russian immigrants in my building and many more in my company. My intention is to share this experience with all of them via internal means. I may even write to the Better Business Bureau and the Brookline Tab. I NEVER wish to be treated so disrespectfully again. read more

I shudder in general to give 4 or 5 stars to an INSURANCE company. It's freakin' Insurance!!! There should be laws in general against this. But I must say, given the necessity, Kovalev has been surprisingly personable, helpful, and - dare I say it - seriously customer oriented. I consider myself having above average intelligence, but the first time you have a question to ask of Mike, you know he knows his business inside and out, and your case, and how you fit in/where he can help. With the Sept 18th wind/rain storm, and then with Hurricane Sandy, we had major limbs fall and hit fences and decks - but not the house. He walked me through what was otherwise new territory for me - submitting a claim. And what may happen if you submit a second and third claim. Putting that information in perspective (that you are more or less limited to the # of claims you can make over a time period), he helped me to arrive at the conclusion that for the non-disasterous items (like tree limbs), I'm better off paying a higher deductible and pocketing the lower annual premium for those small instances. They are emailable, and don't shy away from this method of communication. I work in an open office, til 6, so it's hard for me to find time before 5 to pull myself away to a conference room to make a phone call. Lastly, I was recently in a tiny fender bender that was my fault, and the rates went up. They reviewed other companies on my behalf/without me asking!, and found me a lower rate with another company with the same coverage. What would have been a $250/year increase, is now only $60. So, I unfortunately must give credit where it is due - even if it's insurance :) read more
