Four times I scheduled an appointment with AAA to discuss travel arrangements because it claims to offer expert guidance. Four times AAA failed to show up. Anita at 800-222-8252 didn't know how answer my questions, put me on hold while she went looking for someone to help, came back and thought I was that someone, and when I said that I was the caller she'd put on hold, she put me back on hold, and then the call was disconnected. Beth at 866-423-5585 could provide neither expert guidance or any guidance at all. When I asked for information on international driver's licenses (when and where they are required, how to get one, how long they are valid), Beth assured me that she does not issue them, and had refused to answer my other questions. Liz at 617-332-9900 (the branch with the travel agent that did not call when scheduled) said that she had "no way of answering" my questions. Chuck Nardozza at 401-868-6248 said AAA is NOT a travel agent, it just "helps booking flights", and it matters whether I am ready to book now. Sure I am if it will move the ball along, but no, AAA will not call as scheduled because there are other callers who are people who need help. And I am not a caller? Or I am not a person? Or I do not need help? Several emails, one letter and half a dozen calls later, I give up. It is not worth either the annual fee or anyone's time trying to pry services out of AAA. read more

I think that many of the employees here are pleasant and eager to help . But, if you have the misfortune of dealing with Sue you will have a miserable experience She comes in to work every day cranky, miserable and eager to give you a hard time. she does not want you to get your service completed in. She wants to tell you how you have not measured up. I was sitting and waiting my turn andI observed her giving everyone a hard time. She is clearly not interested in " service". she wants you to fail in your mission. if Sue comes near you, run, hide! she does not want to help you. read more

I had to renew my license and I had the best experience with Rae and the staff. Although the line was long, it moved quickly and efficiently. Rae was polite, knowledgeable and extremely helpful explaining every step of the way. I highly recommend this place. It beats going to the RMV any day!! I was in and out in 1/2 hour. read more

Had the misfortune of dealing with Sue to get my licensed renewed. She was extremely unpleasant to work with. If you asked a question, she snapped at you. Very snarky, condescending attitude. It was such an uncomfortable experience. Stefan, the manager had the same type of condescending attitude. He has absolutely no customer service skills. No wonder you only have 3 stars. I got a flat tire today (9/16/2024) on the off ramp from Rt 16 in Wellesley heading to Rt9 East. I called the road assistance number over and over and got disconnected each time. I could never get through to Triple A. Oh boy - this AAA is totally overwhelmed. We used to go there for various services to avoid the unpleasantness of the RMV. Now it's just like the zoo at the RMV except less spacious and less organized! Staff was rude and lack the knowledge of the services they espouse to provide. Totally clueless about managing lines with varying needs. Back in the day we'd have the memberships for tow/lock services, maps, movie tkt discounts. No one uses maps or even movie tkts any more. Now we just have AAA for emergency car svcs, minor RMV needs, currency conversions. Problem is they just can't handle the load. It took days to get euros, then you have to get into the same long line as everyone else even though you received a notice to pick up the euro order. Tried 2 days and finally just sucked it up and waited on the long. Will try Waltham next time. read more

Just got my license renewed at this location. The younger woman working the front counter was very friendly and gave me the forms as soon as I walked in. Jesus was also very helpful in answering any questions and taking care of the process smoothly and surely. My appointment was at 12:10 and they had me out of there by 12:35, with time to spare for my lunch break. I highly recommend any document renewal at this location, especially when presented with the RMV as the alternative. read more

Time to get new customer service attitudes to match their new office location! Grumpy cranky and Mean are the names of these 3 employees. The manager paul's attitude and management style resulting un = apathetic, inept suboordinates . I hate writing bad reviews but they didn't read the sheet I filled out and created a state ID for me that I did not ask for and charged me for it, instead of the passport I asked for. First, note that they moved to a new location on Needham Street a few weeks ago. Still on the same side of the street, but closer to Newton Highlands, across the street from the liquor store and Dunkin Donuts (and this is New England, so directions should include a DD reference!). So, I needed a new license, and read far too many things in the last month about long lines at the RMV (2 hrs waiting time), computers going down, etc. I checked the RMV website to see what was needed - DO THIS EVERYONE - and you are verifying both your ID as well as your location, so in addition to my passport, the checklist I printed on the website (yes, bring the checklist too since you need to sign it and submit that) and social security card, I also needed my insurance policy and copy of my excise tax. I noticed the option of going to an AAA office (I never knew this was an option, but the last time I went for a new picture was 10 years ago; 5 years ago I just did it by mail) and decided that was the way to go. Arrived at the Newton office, had all of my paperwork verified by the receptionist, and it took all of - wait for it - 12 minutes. Yes, you must be a AAA member, but for anyone that is not, what are you going to do when you break down, need a tow truck and also realize you don't want to go to the RMV for your new license?? 12 minutes vs 2 hours at the RMV, take your pick based on your level of patience and how much free time you have. I followed the online instructions to a T, had all my materials printed, documents gathered, and made an appt. I would've preferred last weekend but there were no time slots available so I scheduled for yesterday at 11:50 am. Little did I know that all was pretty much useless, esp. the making an appt. part. This site is cleaner and was less chaotic than a typical Saturday at an RMV but overall, it was so annoying and frustrating. Rather than operate on an appointment basis, as the website tells you is required, it was a free-for-all. I literally heard one employee say to the person ahead of me, who told them she didn't have an appt, that it doesn't matter and you don't need one. It was 100% a first-come, first-serve basis which was so frustrating. I brought it up to the employee when I finally got called, mentioning how someone who was 2 people ahead of me in line had a 12 pm appt and was seen before me, and he essentially said, yeah, appointments, esp on Saturdays, don't really matter. He seemed embarrassed, like he knew I was right, but he just said that this is how they operate. Computers had to be restarted, staff could be very friendly at times but so chatty, which really slowed things down. I was there almost an hour for something that was scheduled - ridiculous. The cherry on top was that b/c the computer had to be restarted when I was on the last step of the process, the system triggered me having to be asked a few add'l questions, like if I'd held a license in other states. One question asked if you were on any meds that might impair your ability to drive. I didn't know what they were asking for specifically and the employee didn't offer examples so I said yes (I take a med that helps w/ anxiety and it does say on the bottle to not drive until you know the med affects you, which it doesn't and I've been on it for a long time). The employee seemed surprised, confused and asked, "Oh is that a med for mental illness?" It felt so invasive and shaming and at the end of the day, he said that type of med doesn't count for what they were asking! So it was unnecessarily embarrassing. Thank goodness I shouldn't need these services for quite some time b/c I would not go back if I had the choice. Terrible! read more

Terrible experience and I have no confidence in AAA after my wife had a terrifying brake failure leaving St Elizabeth Hospital in Brighton, Ma. On Nov 30 , 2023 @ 9 pm. It was on a very steep hill Nevins St & Warren Ave. she was told a tow truck would be there in a hour (10:00pm ) I (husband) came out to the vehicle and waited with her @ 10:30pm she was told tow truck ETA was 10:44pm. Nobody showed up 11,12 1am, 2am Five hours at 39 degrees. The website is a joke tracking tow truck nobody called saying they couldn't get out till mid morning Dec 1,2023 Also was told by the repair shop it was towed to 6 miles away that it doesn't surprise them of lack of communication and service. We felt comfortable with family members especially females believing that AAA would be able to fill their perception of 24/7 coverage which they advertise but it's Not True ! They will leave you out in the Cold waiting ! read more

Had to get my driver's license renewed, and wanted to get a Real ID license. I thought AAA might be less horrible than the Registry. Not only was it less horrible, it was amazingly wonderful! I was taken immediately, and was outta there in 15 minutes. Of course, I had all the required documents with me (look on the RMV website to see what you need to have with you for a Real ID), which made it an easy process. The people working there were nice and efficient, and the experience couldn't have been better. read more

More recently, I called to find out if I could renew my membership by coming into the office. They said yes or we can save you a trip and take care of it over the phone. I have had AAA since I was 17 thanks to my Dad. I went to the Newtown location yesterday. (PS Saturday) Good location. Ample parking and a ton of food and shopping around them. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and asked what I needed help with. Not too many businesses do this anymore. Having your AAA card and ID on you they do so many things at these branches. I never knew they could be a saving grace with RMV transactions. Yes. You read that correctly. I might never go to the RMV EVER AGAIN!!!! I needed to renew my registration by 11/30. A friend at work mentioned to call and find a branch that does RMV and insurance services!! EVEN ON A SATURDAY WHEN THE RMV IS CLOSED. Rebecca helped me and she was great. Best part was it only took about 5 minutes. People next to me got great explanations and discounts booking a rental car through AAA for the week of Christmas. I will definitely return to this location. I am glad to know these types of businesses and people exist. If you have AAA google the town your near and call (automated info) for branch services. Had a horrible experience trying to get my license renewed here. The snarky rudeness of the woman at the front desk was appalling. She and the other gentleman in the front seemed to be barely working and just loudly gossiping instead. There were about 20 people waiting for license renewals and they only had one of the two renewal stations staffed. They were working imperceptibly slow -- ever person took 20-30 minutes. It would have taken hours for me to be helped. After the third time the front desk lady sarcastically accosted an elderly customer, I walked out and went to the RMV instead, where there was only a 15 min wait. If you can, definitely go to the Boston AAAbranch instead or just go to the RMV. read more

I chose to use this branch to renew my licence to the Real ID, which, let's face it, is a real PITA. I had never use the registry services at AAA before, but anything seemed better than the Watertown registry. The branch is easily located on busy Needham St and parking was at a premium on a Wednesday morning, likely due to sharing the lot with a Stop and Shop. It took a while to find a space (but it's free). The branch was packed with folks and I was temporarily daunted, but the four people working at the counter were extremely efficient. It was a short wait for the person checking documents, which was great because WHY wait to be turned away. I was impressed at how briskly he dispatched the line. While I waited my turn, I observed the two clerks work their way through the long cue. They double checked when someone didn't hear their name called. They were so polite and respectful, very especially to the large ratio of elderly customers. But they never once stopped moving. WE were waiting up to and over an hour but they were working so hard that whole time. I did not mind the wait. I see a number of poor reviews, but this was not my experience today. The volume of paperwork involved with the new ID process is much worse for them than us, I think. The registry service is only one small thing offered by AAA, but it was essentially all I saw them doing while I was there. It was clearly the bulk of the workload. I commend them. read more

Not happy! I'm going to Cuba and needed to get Euros bc Cuba doesn't accept USD. Anyways, l explained this all to the Triple A person that works at the Newton branch! l also said that l needed all SMALL bills and I got mostly 100's and 50's! (Really?!) I asked if l could have them exchange and the woman today just told me NO with NO explanation or attempt to even try for me! The woman who worked with me specifically was very forgiving of the fact that I had neglected to fill out some questions on the renewal form. So.... went to renew my license today and thought I would go to AAA as opposed to the registry. Since the Newton location was right around the corner that was our chosen destination. Waited to register, the line wasn't too bad and the people were friendly. Once processed I took my seat to wait. Bided my time watching everyone before me get called. So far still better than the registry! Oh, wait... I'm next yay. Less than one hour. Then they call someone that came in after me. Got to listen to a nice conversation between the customer and the agent about the customers daughter turning 21, time to go drinking, telling old stories. Good thing to do when people are waiting and your office is short staffed. Finally they finish, my turn. Nope. Someone else that came in after me. They finish and surely it's my turn. Third times the charm right? Nope. Let's call yet someone else that came in after me. That was it. I left, drove to the Waltham office and was in and out in less than an hour. They were just as busy, didn't have a lot of staff but somehow were much more efficient. Don't go to a Newton. Go to another AAA office or the registry. Much better experience. read more

Have tried for weeks to schedule an appointment at the Needham Street AAA to renew my license. No matter how many times I've tried, the same message appears in red: "Currently, no times are available at this location for the next two weeks. However, new slots are released throughout the day, during business hours. Please check back at a later time for an opening within our rolling two week window, or try a nearby location." Fortunately, my AAA subscription expires in December and I can signup with a more reliable company. I won't take the chance of needing roadside assistance from an unreliable company. read more

I went to get a license renewal at this AAA location a month ago. After notifying me on arrival that I needed an appointment, which is fine and reasonable, I scheduled one about 2.5 weeks later, the earliest following appointment. My appointment day went fine but upon taking a new license photo I noticed my head looked extremely small in the photo as the woman assisting me asked "does this look okay?" to which I responded fine, as I figured my image would be cropped in post before sending to the DMV to develop the physical ID copy of my renewed drivers license. It arrived. This must be a joke because no one would believe it is an actual certified ID because my head is TINY in the bottom of the image square with 85% of the square is the blue background on all Mass IDs. Buyer beware. I will be going back in the morning to ensure this is fixed. read more

Kind of rude, not personal at all. Every time I call my agent she's like, wait..who are you? I have to give her all my info every time, as if it were the first time we ever spoke, kinda annoying. Also they're kind of lazy, instead of going the extra mile they'll ask you to make a call or fax it for them or email them something instead of them writing it down. on the plus side, they do have good rates. read more

Welp, I have to say I'm happy these places are even still in business (and a bit surprised). I can't exactly see them making lots of sales from maps these days- other than the elderly that still purchase them (hint-it's free on the Internet). Even international maps are available for FREE even without any network connection. Anyways, we went in to get 2 IDP's, and everything went smoothly. They were all really friendly and it's a comfy store. They have a nice sized lot as well so no trouble parking. read more

Booked a Hawaiian honeymoon with Wendy M. and was very pleased! I have never worked with a travel agent and had planned to map out this vacation on my own but it proved too difficult. Wendy walked us through the options and provided her own personal recommendations based on experience. She was able to (somehow) check all the boxes for what we wanted AND stay within our budget. This morning 8/25/2018 I pulled my documents together for a license renewal/ Real ID. Arrived at Newton AAA at 8:55am doors opened promptly at 9:00am. Presented my AAA card, documents and current license. At 9:09am I walked with a license/Real ID. No more impending doom planning a trip to the Registry for me. Did you know that you can exchange to foreign currency for a trip over seas at AAA? Yeah, I didn't know either. My own bank wanted to charge me an additional "processing fee". A friend told me "AAA does it and they don't even charge a processing fee!" Unbelievably easy! Big parking lot with plenty of parking. The service counter is super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful! Even hooked me up with a r international drivers license for my trip to Italy. AAA is not just for road trips any more. I couldn't recommend them more! Great Job! read more

I live close to this facility, and find it convenient for popping in. The staff there is always warm/cordial. On occasion, there might be a slight wait, as there appears to be a large clientele coming and going at times. I've obtained many travel maps and brochures as part of my membership, and arranged for/received Euros and UK Pounds prior to traveling. Additionally, I've purchased adapters there for electrical current conversion (which worked fine), and thy've given me small gifts (one contains a pen and tire pressure gauge, etc.). As far as roadside assistance goes, I obviously don't contact this facility directly, but, the service that I've received on the road has been very good, overall. Despite concurrently having roadside assistance from my car manufacturer, I'd highly recommend Triple A, regardless. read more

The products and services offered at AAA are great: renewing drivers license, purchasing foreign currency, securing an international drivers license and their AAA MasterCard provisions for overseas travel is the best card available....but the staff is exceptionally slow and at times rude and condescending. Often you ask them a basic question, the associate should know the answer but doesn't and refers to another associate. After waiting an unacceptable length of time during my last 3 visits in Newton and being subjected to a rude, condescending associate, I plan on using the AAA branch in Norwood/Westwood the next time to hopefully deal with a higher class of associates read more

Just learned that at this Newton branch and certain other AAA offices, members (only) can get renewal or replacement driver's licenses or auto registrations (but not all Registry Services). Walked in on a Saturday and with only 2 people ahead of me had a very smooth transaction. While I was there I got a few maps I had been meaning to order. Great service. I recently had to appear in person to renew my driver's license. I arrived at 9 AM as the door was being unlocked and very courteously escorted to the proper area. The gentleman who took me through the process could not have been nicer nor more helpful. I am sorry that I do not remember his name. From the moment I easily parked across from the entrance to the moment I finished no more than 20 minutes later this was a pleasure unlike dreaded trips to the RMV in years past.
