I've been with a few of the waxers and only had positive experiences - but Maya is my #1. I highly recommend you make an appointment with her, particularly for brazilians. She is truly an expert in her field and is very knowledgeable about different techniques for different hair types. She makes sure that you feel comfortable throughout the appointment, informs you about what she is doing and why, and provides encouragement in the tougher sections. I will say it's definitely not cheap here, and if that's what you're looking for you might as well do EWC. The quality of the products they use, the expertise of their waxers, and the experience within the salon makes it totally worth it. From being offered water when you check in to the beautiful rooms they have to people like Maya, I don't think you could go wrong here.

I wanted to get one while I was in SF but that didn't pan out for many reasons which I was disappointed by. So I was very happy that I had such an amazing experience here. I was able to easily book online, a same day appointment. I showed up early and they were able to get started on me right away. Mai was so sweet! She took good care of me and I liked how she knows when to talk and when not to talk. I've definitely had facials where the aestheticians were super chatty and I'm over here like bruh i'm tryna relax yknow? I got a custom facial but felt like so much was done on me. I've never had that many steps before. But i left the salon feeling like baby skin. And day after, my skin looked so clear, smooth and even toned. I feel like she honestly shaved years off of my face lol Pro tip: New clients get 20% off

(An homage to Yelp reviewer @TinaC) Longing for love,…read morelonging for shade we head to this Williamsburg respite. But there, in the dark, slippery depths of the first floor women's locker room we find an omen for the ages: Chicken wings, piled high on a platter, atop a steamy bench in the women's bathroom. Passersby in squishy sandals pause to scrunch their nose in horror or confusion. Why are there unclaimed chicken wings in a posh Brooklyn spa? A question that echos through the cosmos. We senior gals, in skirts for swim, ignored the poultry predicament and elevatored to the rooftop pool where the hoi polloi huddled for wet and wonder. Besties in bikinis, boyfriends beckoning with a Bathouse Spritz, a burly beard solo and stalking the scene. 101 degree weather, we welcome the murky stew. Accommodations so lovely one patron in sunglasses and a white thong-th-thong-thong-thong had to be forcibly removed after overstaying her two and a half hour slot. A good time was had by all. One hundred and fifty dollars for a daybed is the way to go.

First the person I was scheduled for was changed then when I saw who it was replaced by I immediately knew it would not be to my satisfaction, the person also knew. I am a full grown sized woman and the petite masseuse was not going to suffice. I believe they have missed their calling and should instead work in sports medicine, HSS or for a professional sports league. There was no choice of aroma for the initial deep inhale. Just immediately elbows and knees in my body (I did not book deep tissue). After 20 minutes I had to speak up. It then changed to rubbing oil on me and stretching. The massage does not start at 10 and was over by 1120. So I paid for 1.5hrs and received 1. The two stars is for the expansion of bathhouse Williamsburg and the additional space. There's still so much wrong with the process. Check in was a cluster f*ck. The lockers don't work properly and there seems to never be anyone to help. There was one tall gentleman who was working hard the entire time who deserves a raise.

When we walked in, I noticed how amazing it smells. Front desk was friendly, we checked in and they gave us 2 towels each. The locker room was very clean, but I wish it was a little bigger. It was ok since it was daytime during the week and not that busy, but on weekends I'm sure it would feel tight. The sauna was clean, with many levels. We opted for the lower level because we didn't want it too hot. The essential oil snowballs smelled great and I appreciated that the guide told us which scent each one was. We ventured over to the cold plunge, and I only expected to dip my toes in as usual. The guide Miguel gave us some tips for deep breathing and humming in the back of our throat to distract from the cold, like mind over matter. It actually really helped, and for the first time I got in up to my waist. I didn't last too long, but I did it a few times, so that's progress. My husband couldn't believe it when I told him. They have 2 different cold plunges with different temperatures, we went in the one that was less cold. Once you got over the initial shock it did feel great. The last 5 minutes or so Miguel guided everyone in deep breathing to close out the session. I left feeling absolutely great. On our way out they gave us a preset for first timers, which was incense. Great experience, and I can't wait to go back. I would also like to go to one of the dj sessions on the weekend.

There are three phases - the lounge, cold spa plunge, and sauna that you rotate through. The way you go about it is up to you! We started in the lounge first, which is a dimly lit communal space that offers comfortable seating to encourage conversation with others, herbal tea, and journaling. Next in the sauna lies a huge room where they add some essential oil snowballs, music (one of the Othership employees played guitar), or mini meditation sessions. They have a schedule outside the sauna with the activities of the day. Lastly, there are quite a few cold plunges where you can soak in for two minutes or longer with a sound bath after if you choose. And repeat! The facilities in general here are really nice. I loved the amenities that they offer in the restroom and showers. Each session is about an hour, which is plenty of time to rotate through and relax / rejuvenate.

BOTTOM LINE: I thoroughly enjoyed my experience TIP/S:…read more*women-owned business* Walk-ins welcome. ...WHO: party of 2 WHY: Novemberfest celebration with my sis WHAT: (Deets) I initially read about the outdoor sauna on donyc. Before coming, I was frustrated, having called Nowadays several times on both Thursday (I left a voicemail because they are NOT open) and Friday (no answer during open hours). So I sent an email. I received a response from Nowadays staff late Friday evening with only a hyperlink and unclear info. My original email was also forwarded to the actual owners of Hot Box. They promptly answered my email and gave me clear written directions, a hyperlink with updated info, and a direct phone number to call to communicate with humans...winning! That evening, I called & spoke with the upbeat empathetic owner Paula. I received such wonderful customer service that I was intent on supporting WHATEVER project she and Jackie had going on! My girlfriend and I were psyched about coming to a "tiny house" sauna. It's housed in the backyard of the restaurant Nowadays in Ridgewood for now, but moves to various spots around the city. After registering, when your time slot is ready, you will go to 1 of 2 zip-down, enclosed changing cabanas to slip into your swimsuit and slippers. You are given a long black or short teal robe for warmth/ coverage, and escorted up onto the porch (no shoes) and into the sauna where fresh towels await you on the bench. There is an outdoor shower for the warmer months, and a fire pit for the cooler months. There is also cold ginger lemon water for your sipping pleasure. There are 2 enclosures in the sauna that vary in temperature, to cool down without having to leave the sauna. The hottest section can comfortably hold 4-7 people, the warmer section 4-6 small-thighed folks. The porch also seats 2, and is VERY Instagramable, if you're about that life! All in all, it was absolutely wonderful. Between catching up with my girlfriend, chatting with our sauna-mate, giggling with the owners Jackie & Paula & staff, and hanging at the fire pit, the time FLEW by! So I would advise booking at LEAST an hour. But there is happy hour pricing before 10pm when they are open, so Frugalistas also get to rock out! I'm definitely intent on bringing more friends next time!
