I went with my friend for the first time, we did a free flow because we were a little afraid the classes might be too woo woo. But now I want to try a class next time. When we walked in, I noticed how amazing it smells. Front desk was friendly, we checked in and they gave us 2 towels each. The locker room was very clean, but I wish it was a little bigger. It was ok since it was daytime during the week and not that busy, but on weekends I'm sure it would feel tight. The sauna was clean, with many levels. We opted for the lower level because we didn't want it too hot. The essential oil snowballs smelled great and I appreciated that the guide told us which scent each one was. We ventured over to the cold plunge, and I only expected to dip my toes in as usual. The guide Miguel gave us some tips for deep breathing and humming in the back of our throat to distract from the cold, like mind over matter. It actually really helped, and for the first time I got in up to my waist. I didn't last too long, but I did it a few times, so that's progress. My husband couldn't believe it when I told him. They have 2 different cold plunges with different temperatures, we went in the one that was less cold. Once you got over the initial shock it did feel great. The last 5 minutes or so Miguel guided everyone in deep breathing to close out the session. I left feeling absolutely great. On our way out they gave us a preset for first timers, which was incense. Othership is a new spa experience that you can only have in a place like NYC! I came here with one of my friends for our first time recommended by another friend. There are three phases - the lounge, cold spa plunge, and sauna that you rotate through. The way you go about it is up to you! We started in the lounge first, which is a dimly lit communal space that offers comfortable seating to encourage conversation with others, herbal tea, and journaling. Next in the sauna lies a huge room where they add some essential oil snowballs, music (one of the Othership employees played guitar), or mini meditation sessions. They have a schedule outside the sauna with the activities of the day. Lastly, there are quite a few cold plunges where you can soak in for two minutes or longer with a sound bath after if you choose. And repeat! The facilities in general here are really nice. I loved the amenities that they offer in the restroom and showers. Each session is about an hour, which is plenty of time to rotate through and relax / rejuvenate. read more

Othership is a modern sauna + cold plunge studio that feels like the wellness world's answer to happy hour. Think less cocktails, more contrast therapy with a social, music-driven vibe that makes recovery feel like an event. The lighting is dim, amber toned, relaxing, and the aesthetic feels modern, approachable. The Flatiron location is my usual spot, but this one is slightly bigger, and just opened recently. The sauna is a large, bleacher-style room with dim mood lighting and really well-curated music that shifts with each session, setting the tone to relax and recharge. If you want things really hot, grab a top-row seat in the corners. Temperatures usually hit 160-165F during social hour. Cold plunge setup is smaller than Flatiron- just two large tubs at slightly different temps (usually around 40° and 44°). The staff doesn't always know the exact numbers, which is frustrating because a few degrees makes a BIG difference. They offer a guided breathing (1-2 mins) to ease first timers into the cold plunge. I typically skip the sessions and go in on my own- they have a large clock facing the the cold plunge so you can time your own sessions. The whole package runs about 75 minutes, and I recommend doing rounds of sauna cold plunge sauna cold plunge. I always leave feeling reset and zen. Some small details that positively affect the experience: self set combo lockers for your stuff, 2 turkish towels per person (one for sitting on/ use during the session, one for showering after). Shower area with fancy shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion. Overall vibe: Othership is more social than Bathhouse and a great alternative to going out for drinks or dinner with friends. They also have a large social bleachers area to mingle if you want a break from sauna or cold plungeing. I'm so moved by my experience and the mission of Othership that I'm writing my first Yelp review for it. It's that good. I went to a Free Flow, which is a 75 minute block of time where you can experience the Sauna and Cold Plunge pools as much or as little as you want. The sauna is communal, and there are two communal cold plunge pools. It's so much better than a spa day. They have "Guides" in and around the space offering, well, guidance on not only the best ways to utilize the hot and the cold, but also providing insight into what the health benefits of both are. Physical and mental. Many are trained in breath work, sound therapy, and similar practices. I went to the Williamsburg location, still relatively new, and it's absolutely stunning. Sparklingly clean, perfectly curated, relaxing to every sense. I just loved it. The best time and money I have spent on any kind of excursion in a long time. The entire atmosphere of the place was exceptional. The front desk folks are kind, calm, totally relaxing and inquisitive about what kind of experience you're looking to have. Not once did I feel pressured or expected to do something I didn't want to do. My fear was eliminated the moment they said hello. The cold has always scared me. And I'm so glad Maggie was there to guide me through my first 2 minutes! She whipped out rain sticks, tuning forks, small chimes, the whole 9 for me. It was a transcendent experience. Even though I'm not from Williamsburg, I made the hour trip to this spa for my first sauna and ice bath experience, and it was totally worth it! Morgan welcomed my friend and me, walked us through everything, and helped us with breathing during the cold plunge, which made the whole experience feel much less intimidating.
