The texture of what katsu is supposed to be wasn't katsu! It was literally a chicken tender that tasted like jack n box tenders. Usually opt for drive thru but first time dining in since the drive thru was insane per usual and I really wanted ice cream it was so hot lol. As busy as the drive thru was, the workers were banging out orders quick! Not sure why I never realized they make plate lunches but they look so good. Love that their prices are pretty reasonable too. Opted to share a banana royale and slush float, they only had melon at the time and some fries. Fries were literally fried to perfection. While the prices have risen higher than I'd like nothing has changed in a bad way otherwise! Kozmics been fueling my family and I for over 15 years and I continue to find new things to like about it. Whether it's the menu that I can never finish trying food or the fact that it remains consistent with solid drive thru speed I've always loved it. My only gripe as stated above is the high price increases borderline doubling what it was before in some cases. While I understand inflation, tariffs and Covid have hit hard in times like this I used to always default to them cause the price to quality ratio was always on point. Drive through line didn't take that long and service is nice. A little outdated the place but I know to refurbishing is expensive. The food did taste good but that presentation doesn't quite look that delicious. I wasn't expecting the chicken katsu to look like that and that's why my review was a 3 star. read more

Food quality for regular items has diminished greatly. Just ordered the Teri Hamburger Steak and it was not good. Three thin overcooked hamburger patties (so they were over dry) covered in a pasty Teri sauce. It was inedible. Oh and my wife ordered the fish burger and got food poisoning within 2 hours .. and is still feeling the effects 2 days later. Won't be back at all - it is off our list of go to food joints. After a day full of hiking and much adventure, my friends and I wanted to top it off with a sweet treat. We decided upon Kozmic Cones after seeing the photos Mac-nut rolled soft-serve cones. To our surprise, we found that this spot also doubled as a fast food joint as well. To compliment the sweetness of our ice cream cones, each of us got an order of fries, the perfect vessel for scooping ice cream into the mouth. Wow oh WOW were we surprised at how delicious the fries were!! So delicious, in fact, that we visited again the next evening just to order another round of fries! The nutty cone is a standard vanilla cone $4.55 which was covered in... you guessed it... macadamia nuts. There are two options- small and large so we chose a large since we were sharing it. The cone was stale. I hate stale cones. You get to the end and you are looking forward to eating it and blah blah blah. Staff ignored us in the walk-up line for a few minutes. They were a bit busy with the drive thru line. What can I say, not the best that the island has to offer but we wanted dessert and it was open until 7 pm. I was visiting the big island for the first time with my daughter and it was her birthday and unfortunately, I wasn't able to get her a cake so she opted for ice cream after dinner and ended up finding this place on Yelp. I was glad that they had a drive-through because we were all wet and we didn't want to get out of the car. She ended up ordering an Oreo cone and I ordered the nut covered Cone. I took my first lick and I didn't want to share. It was so delicious that we went back another night to grab more nut covered cones. Kozmic Cones serves soft serve ice cream (and lots of food...not much of it vegetarian), and Patty was hankering to try it. She opted for the mac nut (see picture). Patty said it was delicious. Definitely worth the drive-thru wait. She did agree with other reviewers that the cake cone seemed stale. I took a bite of it. I don't think stale is the right word. I was sold a cone where the ice cream (frozen yogurt) was full of air, and it collapsed, and I got about 3 bites before it was gone, and it cost $4.00. Their machine had problems so they did not sell the large cones, so I got this small one for $4.00. I went back the next time I was in town to complain, but they had closed the store, The next time after that I went to town I went to the window and told them what had happened, and they knew they had a problem with their machine, that's why they closed the store before and ask what they were going to do about it, and they told me I should have called them and refused to do anything about it. They basically stole $4.00 from me, and they could have done the right thing and either given me another good cone or my money back, but their reputation was not worth the 80 cents it would have cost them to replace the cone. How stupid was that? And it shows they can screw their customers and don't care. read more

I think maybe the star rating is a little askew here. The Ice cream here is 5 stars, but I can't speak to the food. We loved our soft serve and especially rolled in Oreo! They didn't skimp at all. They have a lot of variety. Love the blue vanilla ice cream slush, so flavorful! The bento was kinda dry and has no flavor. Tried the akuke plate and wished it wasn't breaded and fried. My sister told me about this ice cream place to try when we were in hilo town so we did. She hyped up the macadamia topping ice cream and insisted that I try it. Once we got there the drive thru line was pretty long and it took a while. We ordered 2 ice creams 1 macadamia nut topping and 1 sprinkles. We also ordered the slush floats. In my opinion the macadamia nuts tasted very old and stale not fresh at all. When I got the ice cream portion it tasted a bit weak for vanilla. I was expecting it to be a McDonald's vanilla ice cream was clearly was not it. As for the slush floats the syrup tasted very watered down with the same bland vanilla ice cream. I actually came for breakfast, & and found myself ordering a breakfast special which consisted of two scopes rice, two scrambled eggs, and choice of meat, all of this for just $3.99. Of course the local boy in me had to get the SPAM for my choice of meat. I tell you, if Spam was healthy and good for you.......I'd eat it everyday! That's how much I love the SPAM!!!! Unfortunately, I have to limit my Spam intake, otherwise I will be visiting heaven much sooner, than later. Kozmic cone has a simple menu, they serve up some simple plate lunch types of things......I will have to come back again one day to sample their plate lunches. They had quite a variety of items, including savory items, on their menu, but I opted for a nutty cone instead. I believe another review had mentioned that the nuts they had used tasted stale, and sadly, it was the same for me. However, the ice cream itself was pretty good, and that alone would make me want to come back here. I'd recommend coming by here, but maybe steer clear of any of their nut offerings. read more
